i dont know anything about astronomy, i just think pictuwes pweddy, so !! sorry if this is vague but uuuhh. top 5 fun facts that you dont think a lot of people know ? or some lesser known planets or other named.. things.. that youre especially fascinated with/think are gorgeous ? :-)

There are many interesting things, but I will try to say some.

1- Possible (but perhaps improbable) existence of a planet hidden in the outer reaches of the solar system (planet x)

2- Dark matter. It is still a mystery about what particle is made, etc. The study is difficult because we cannot see directly (dar matter)

3- Dark energy.

4- What Came Before the Big Bang. Although astronomers do not fully understand what happened in the big bang and how the processes went until they reached the universe we know today, knowing what happened before the big bang is still a major mystery. A number of theories to try to explain this, string theory also describes one of them.

My Bad English

Warning: Now that I’m the middle of PhD I should write more in English to publish bullshit that no one will read. Apologies to readers who see this, I’m just treaning my writing, with no particular point in mind. 

Funny how some blogs are/were more popular than academic papers. Slate Star Codex is an example. As a blog, it was recently closed thanks to  a piece wrote by a NYT “journalist” who would reveal Scott’s real name. This guy apparently also wrote a book on rationalists and how their beliefs are crazy enough to get attention. That was a sad event, as the information economy goes. Almost all people who write only are not drive by high epistemic standards, but by dubious motivations. In other words, clowns. And I don’t even followed the blog frequently enough to tell how good was the content in recent times. I just think Scott is OK, for the small contact  I had with his writings.  

Now that we’re talking about red herring topics, I should mention how fanatics spend tremendous amount of time online, defending things with no particular social benefic. As we know, almost all these interventions are motivated by signaling, not by data-driven policies. I really never paid much attention to these discussions.  Swarm behavior always sound suspicious to me, even though it is a big problem how we should consider racist behavior. The conciliation between these two intuitions, that’s something worth thinking about.
