“It’s a movin’ picture. Basically. Like imagine a paintin’ that moves for like an hour and a half.”
“Oh...! How strange...”
“I’ll have to see one of these for myself.”
“From that one movie?… Whatever.”
“...Movie?”
“Forgive me, I’m unfamiliar with a lot of these modern things...”
"Uh... why do people keep whispering about your father?"
”People are talking about him?”
”He’s… well, he’s very important — he’s royalty, and accomplished amazing things back home. He didn’t make it to be a fighter in these tournaments, though.”
“I’d love to!” Maybe now, he’d be able to come back to Lan after this tournament with a few new skills under his belt.
“But… how would it work? I’ve never studied under a real-world tutor before…”
“I’m sure we’ll figure something out.” Lucina smiled kindly at him.
“Do you have any training dummies or anything in there with you? You could use those and copy what I do on them, and I could watch and give you pointers!”
“Got any more outstandin’ observations, Sauron?”
“Sauron...?”
"Uh... why do people keep whispering about your father?"
”People are talking about him?”
”He’s… well, he’s very important — he’s royalty, and accomplished amazing things back home. He didn’t make it to be a fighter in these tournaments, though.”
Mega Man lashed out with a virtual blade of his own — summoned in a faint flash — though his motion was nothing compared to Lucina’s swordplay. “Hyah!”
The weapon dissolved moments later, and Mega straightened up, still unable to mask his excitement. “You handle that sword like a master, Lucina. It’s a privilege just being able to watch.”
Maybe he’d even be able to try some of those techniques the next time he and ProtoMan faced off…
Seeing the man attempt to mimic her movements was, honestly, touching. A smile was brought to the woman’s face. “Thank you. If it weren’t for my Father, I wouldn’t be as skilled as I am.”
“I could give you lessons, if you would like,” Lucina offered, glad that she had a bit of a fan.
“It’s quiet.”
"Uh... why do people keep whispering about your father?"
”People are talking about him?”
”He’s… well, he’s very important — he’s royalty, and accomplished amazing things back home. He didn’t make it to be a fighter in these tournaments, though.”
A blade passed on to the next generation… talk about the stuff legends were made of! “I-Incredible,” Mega Man said as he stared at Falchion with awe.
"You look like you really know how to use it, too. Would you mind showing me a bit of what you can do?"
"I'd love to." Showing off now and again was fun, after all. Who could say no to that?
And with those words, she was off. She showed him everything she and Falchion were capable of, as though she were in a real battle. What was the point of showing off if she didn't give it her all? She wore herself out a bit as a consequence, but she was alright with that, and grinned at the man on the screen.
“Couldn’t tell you. I’m not exactly sure where we are right now." It was true - He didn’t really know where this hotel was, how and why he got here, whatever. He’d find out in due time, he supposed.
”The Lylat system is a galaxy, and this hotel is not part of it.”
Oh. Galaxy. That was completely different from what she'd expected -- another country, maybe. But galaxy? Then how did he get here? Then again, she didn't really know how she got here either. She figured it was magic, like what she'd used to get to the past. But, she really needed to get caught up on all this high tech junk.
"I see... That sounds very far from here, then. I'm not completely sure where we are either, though."
“Yes. That’s the name of our team. We’re a team of three." He could go on and on about himself and his job. It was something he took a lot of pride in.
“We aren’t from here, either. Ever heard of the Lylat system?”
"No, I can't say it rings a bell." For some reason, the name struck her as odd. She wasn't sure why. "Where is that?"
"Uh... why do people keep whispering about your father?"
”People are talking about him?”
”He’s… well, he’s very important — he’s royalty, and accomplished amazing things back home. He didn’t make it to be a fighter in these tournaments, though.”
"Good to get to know some more of the people around here." Mega Man yawned on the screen and gestured to the virtual space around him. "It can get pretty lonely —"
Then, the NetNavi paused in mid-motion, staring at something Lucina had. “—!”
"Is that a sword?" He tried to get a better view of Falchion, and pure excitement filled his voice. "Awesome! Are you a knight, or, or, a samurai?" .
"A knight. A lord, to be more accurate. This is Falchion." She drew the sword from it's sheath, holding it out so the file could see it.
"This is a very special blade, passed down through my family. It... It was the only thing I received from my father in my future." A grim subject, but an origin story all the same. "It holds a lot of power, and it's quite important to me."
“I’m part of a mercenary unit called Star Wolf." A sly smile slid across his face. Talking about his job and reputation was a favourite topic of his. "Star Wolf Team Killer, in fact. I’m an assassin. I kill people." A title he wore with much pride, too.
An assassin. She nearly cringed at the word. Sure, there were assassins on their army and whatnot, so she was very familiar with them, but... Ah, well. At least it was a term she could relate to.
"Star Wolf?"
"Uh... why do people keep whispering about your father?"
”People are talking about him?”
”He’s… well, he’s very important — he’s royalty, and accomplished amazing things back home. He didn’t make it to be a fighter in these tournaments, though.”
"You’re making me want to meet him!"
Speaking of meeting people, the NetNavi realized that he hadn’t even introduced himself. “Oh, I’m MegaMan.EXE, by the way,” he added with a friendly smile.
"I’m a computer program designed by the famous Dr. Hikari. Though I can’t say he ever saved the world!"
"A... computer program?" She'd been hearing of these "computers" a lot recently, but she'd yet to learn what it was. Programs, sure, she kind of understood that, but...
"I can't say I've ever heard of that, but it's nice to meet you."
"Uh... why do people keep whispering about your father?"
”People are talking about him?”
”He’s… well, he’s very important — he’s royalty, and accomplished amazing things back home. He didn’t make it to be a fighter in these tournaments, though.”
For a moment, Mega Man thought he understood completely. Dr. Hikari, the researcher who’d created him, had been as much of a father figure as Mega Man could ever have asked for — and there were parts of his own executable, eerily similar to human DNA, that the NetNavi couldn’t understand and Lan’s father had never explained. Whatever the case, having somebody so clever, so dedicated, so loving to look up to… there was little to compare it to.
"It sounds like you’re pretty proud of him," Mega Man said with a small grin. "What sort of things has he accomplished?" The NetNavi could smell a great story on the way, or so he hoped.
"He's fought and won a number of wars, for starters." Lucina explained with a smile. "He's a hero. He puts others' lives before his own and is more than willing to help even strangers."
"He's a prince, as I mentioned before. You'd think him to be stuck up and the like, but he's not at all. He's the kindest man you could meet. I... I aspire to be like him one day. He's saved our world from tragedies that some may consider to be only a fairy tale."
“…and you don’t have any questions for me?"
Maybe socailizing would be more simple if he could focus on this that weren’t himself. Luckily (or perhaps unluckily), for the other, he was going to keep talking whether she asked him anything or not.
She really needed to learn how to talk with people upon first meeting them. "Uh... Well... What is it that you do?" Yeah, that was a start. "I can't imagine animals being employed as something other than a mount, to tell the truth, but you're clearly very different."
“I’m surprised I’ve never seen a human before, if theres so many of you!" He snickered a bit again. He was holding himself superior to her and her kind, to no surprise. "I don’t have any questions in partiuclar. Don’t really know anything about your kind, so there’s nothing I am curious about.”
Well. Jeez.
"If you say so." She answered with a nod. She really wasn't sure where to take this -- she was never very good at socializing, considering...
