In Astrapur, at the hour when the sun no longer blazed at its zenith but darkness had not yet descended, Charlene and Evander were making their way to the city's exit after another meeting in the castle. Charlene was accompanying Evander, and this time she felt a peculiar anxiety.
Evander was clad in a black robe, which revealed him as a vampire. His eyes with narrow pupils seemed to see through everything, even in the twilight of the city streets. But he wore the robe for a reason. If sunlight were to hit a vampire, it could cause their fur to fall out and even their eye sockets to burst. Therefore, Evander always shielded himself from potential sunlight.
But it was overcast outside, and a strong wind was blowing. Evander didn't notice how his robe caught on something, and the wind tore it off. All the cats in the city, always on guard, noticed that this cat was actually a vampire and gathered around Charlene and Evander.
The townspeople, seeing Evander without his robe, began to scream and hiss. Their angry faces expressed hatred and fear. They pounced on Evander like predators on prey.
— VAMPIRE! Vampire! They don't belong here! GET OUT!!! — an old man shouted.
— He kidnapped the princess! Get out! You'll bring trouble to our city!!
One of the cats abruptly pressed her son to her and spoke with predatory intent:
— Don't you dare TOUCH MY SON! Get out, miserable APOVLOS!! You don't deserve to live in our city!! Death to vampires!!
Evander began to hiss aggressively and show his wings, spreading them wide. Charlene tried to convince him not to get angry, but her words were drowned out by the townspeople's shouts.
— We won't let you stay here! — the cats shouted — You'll be executed!!
Charlene realized that the situation was spiraling out of control. She knew that Evander wouldn't harm the townspeople, but they didn't understand that. In that moment, she realized they needed to leave the city as soon as possible before it was too late.
