In a few moments, the Doctor will turn to me, sad and angry and scared and he'll step inside. Wanting comfort. Because that's what I always give him. But not this time. Because that's not what he needs.

What the TARDIS thought of 'Time Lord Victorious'

Of course he was in pain. How could he not be in pain?

This wasn't a slow transformation he had tried to keep hidden from his crew. No. Only an hour ago, Ewan Muir was still a man. He still was, but he was confused, scared and unable to think straight. He knew this stranger shouldn't be here. He knew he wasn't hired this morning by Cadal. But, instead of telling him to leave, or heck, even attack him, he just stared. The sound of two hearts was oddly comforting. That and seeing someone not be afraid. Seeing all of his friends run away in fear was burned into his mind.

How could they leave him? Where did they go? He just needed help.

'...Muir...' As he spoke, blood dripped from his broken and mishapen mouth. 'My name is Muir.' A pause, as if he was trying to learn how to speak again. 'I was working here, with Inn-' His only working eye widened. 'Innes. Where's Innes?' But, as quickly as he asked, Muir quickly switched back to the Doctor. 'There's a light. Under the ocean. And now, its in the oil.'

The Doctor frowned at Muir. "Muir... Nice to meet you" he utters. Though upon hearing about Innes, he didn't see Innes or know if the fellow human was alive. "Not sure, But I am sure I can find him and help him to" He offers. "After I assist you." he admits, it was a promise, he could only help one person at a time in this state, apart of him wondered how he will get muir on the Tardis to help him. "Right, this is a drilling rig isn't it...?" The Doctor utters, apart of him wasn't surprise that a human rig messed with any aliens that lived in the ocean. Though now, it was up to him to figure out how he got infected. "Did you touch the Oil...?"

one detail about The Waters Of Mars that's driving me insane is Mia at the end stammering "it's bigger on the inside" in pure FEAR.

like, call it a coincidence, say it makes sense because she just lost crewmates and their space station and all the progress they could have made... i don't care. because idk about you, but that moment made me fucking shiver.

because "it's bigger on the inside" is obviously such a recurring phrase - we know it, and the Doctor also knows it so well that he can mouth it in sync with the person saying it. and it has always been connected to wonder, to admiration, to excitement, to disbelief and then realizing the world is crazier and more beautiful than you thought. but it was never said like this. it was never a negative thing until now. and that should have been a wakeup call for the doctor, but of course it wasn't.

because you can say that Mia was just in shock because of what happened all you want. no, i feel like she sensed that the Doctor, although he was saving them, was not a positive force in this moment. it perfectly matches the way Adelaide reacts to him. it's the oh, this is a god. and that is a bad thing.

Beneath the sorrow in the creature's words, there was an echo. Man and mutation trying to become one. One trying to resist. Another trying to take control. Another cry.

A voice. A voice was calling to him. It wasn't who he wanted, but someone answered him. The memories of the mutated man couldn't put the voice to a face. Still, he followed and located the stranger, revealing his body through the fog.

How could it once be a man? It was massive. Clearly moulded after a spider crab and a hermit crab with no shell. Flesh had been turned inside out, revealing pulsing veins, tissue, and pockets of fat. What were once arms had been disfigured so much, they looked like tree branches. The enlarged and broken ribcage acted as support for the body to not topple over, aiding the tendrils of discoloured flesh to keep balance.

Then there was the face. Nose broken. Jaw reshaped, exposing teeth. A flurry of clouded eyes bulging on the left-side, pushing the original shut. The hardhat dug into the skin, already showing signs of infection. Truly a horrific yet sympathetic sight.

What was once Muir watched the stranger, tilting his head, trying to understand where the second heartbeat was coming from. He leaned in close, staring at his chest, before pulling away.

'Are you here to save me?!' He accidentally bellowed, causing the deck to shake.

The Doctor frowns at the creature words, staring at the once human that was heading towards him, all his instincts told him to bolt but yet he held his ground. Unaware if this creature could smell fear, if he did, there was fear coming off of the Doctor but he remained having a calm expression on his face. "i'm going to try to help you" he assures softly.

Apart of him wondered if it would be humane to put this once human out of its misery in this state, he was sure they were hurting, in pain in the state they were in. But he was willing to try to save him, to save everyone on this oil rig even if that meant almost drowning himself, he was the doctor after all.

Watching as the creature moved near, he watched as it stared down at his chest. "Ah, your hearing is fantastic is it?" he asks, sure that he was hearing his double heart beat.

"i'm going to try, what's your name...? do you remember anything before this? I'm the Doctor" The Doctor introduced himself, trying to keep the creature talking, calm, keeping himself steady doesn't the rumble on the rig it self.

//reading the Water of Mars novelization and the visable fear that the Crew feels being around the Time lord victorious is something I wish is shown more often. Because he went from being a Man who was like "i can't change time, i can't help them" to realizing, that time allowed him to live through the time war, allowed him to keep living, why shouldn't he control it? In the quote describing the time lord victorious: he was the savior of worlds, master of destinies , time and space were his, he could do with them with what he wanted, there was no one that could challenge him, he had thought he was the last of the time lords, but he was much more, he was time lord victorious. Like truly in this moment, he thinks he is on top of the world.

But like the fact he is described as terrifying, to the point they back away from him when he approaches any of the crew, that Yuri and Mia bolted the moment they could away from him because they were terrified.

I wish we truly had more moments of people just- realizing how terrifying the Doctor is and especially so when he is in the state of thinking he has the right to control time. When in reality, he can't time it self is stronger then him and he will never have true mastery over it.//
