tbh i don’t feel like gabriel really enjoyed the whole mystery spot ordeal. like, he did it for a reason, not for fun. he wanted to prepare sam, in the most EXTREME way, for what was going to happen to dean. part of it is practical — raise the righteous man, start the apocalypse, and with the two being so co-dependent, he knows that sam would probably go to extreme lengths if it meant bringing his brother back — but there’s also a certain perverted kindness to it; after all, gabriel was forced to lose his beloved brother, and there was nothing he could do about it, so the most he can do is prepare sam for the same agony. i am not in any way condoning his actions, because he was cruel and callous throughout the entire episode and could have made his point any number of ways less traumatizing to sam. but he probably felt that he was doing sam a mercy, in some insanely backwards manner.

he came to understand the error of how he approached it, eventually. so no, he doesn’t feel pride in his actions that day. he doesn’t crow over every tuesday, or torment sam with reprises of heat of the moment. he is not proud of mystery spot.

#man i used to have this asshole celebrating every tuesday just to fuck with the winchesters but #i legitimately. don't think he enjoyed it. i think he figured it would prepare sam best #to see dean die over and over again so that he'd be ready whenever and however it finally happened #but it was a Heavy lapse in judgment on his part #that said. while he regrets it. if the winchesters piss him off he'll wave it around their heads like a flag #i gotta reword this at some point but legitimately the only pleasure he got out of mystery spot #was seeing how many different ways he could kill dean #his ire is 99% at dean in a lot of eps tbh

are we not gonna talk about the fucking power move of introducing an archangel in a prayer position though

also can you imagine how different things would have been if they’d just left him in the circle of holy oil. if dean hadn’t pulled the fire alarm. can you imagine gabriel pacing the circle for days. weeks. months. yelling at the door like they’re just standing on the other side. can you imagine him sitting cross-legged in the center of the circle, elbows on his knees and head in his hands, feeling the course of events around him. feeling his siblings dying. feeling michael and lucifer gravitating closer and closer to each other, to the inevitable end. can you imagine castiel showing up in the warehouse again. standing there silently across from this still, crumpled being who hasn’t moved in months. who has flecks of dust clinging to his eyelashes when he looks up again, dust that sloughs off in small clouds when he blinks for the first time in weeks. their wordless conversation of ‘promise me’ and ‘i can’t’ that ends with a flutter of wings as castiel leaves him to his loneliness. can you imagine gabriel feeling the reverberations of the events in elysian fields hotel as they happen. burning himself as he slams his fists against the invisible barrier presented by the holy fire and yells for someone, anyone, to let him out, only to be ignored. falling to his knees as he feels the tremors through all of creation when sam says yes to lucifer, because once lucifer showed up at the hotel, without gabriel’s interference, he would have forced sam’s hand somehow. can you imagine gabriel, this fallen idol in a ring of fire, being the first person that lucifer visits after he wins.
