TW sexual assault/abuse
the urge to write a non-supernatural stranger things fic where billy wasn’t taken by the mind flayer but was instead violated by a real person. there are so many parallels between the mind flayer and a rapist /sexual abuser. it would be so interesting to explore this concept. okay listen.
everyone starts to get wary of billy’s sudden changes in behaviour. for example, he starts wearing too many layers, he puts on fake smiles to act like everything is okay, he dissociates, he doesn’t like when people touch him. he’s aggressive and lashes out often. his moods switch very quickly and suddenly (sauna scene + fight with the kids).
his sauna scene can also be interpreted as him begging for help and for someone to protect him from his rapist. “please believe me, max” can be seen as a victim wanting to be believed. it shows how desperate he is for someone, specifically family, to believe him and to believe that it actually happened.
“it’s like a shadow” and his other lines where he expresses his confusion also connect to the detachment of the body and mind that victims often experience during the assault. also, the shower scene with heather- it’s like he’s trying to get clean but he can’t and the black veins represent the phantom touches of his attacker.
even the “taking of billy hargrove” scene was creepy. him being dragged down the stairs, something forcing its way into his mouth, pinning him down, billy trying to escape by running to the phone.
abuse victims, SA victims- they’re mistreated if they act out or are not “innocent enough.” billy was villainized while he was flayed. it can represent how SA victims are often treated like the bad guy if they don’t look the part. oh my goodness. i just have so many thoughts about this.. i wanna start writing a fic for this so bad
Billy should’ve known Karen Wheeler wouldn’t show up. He probably shouldn’t have shown up. For fuck’s sake, she was old enough to be his mom. Yeah, sure, she was hot for a mom, but hot enough to drive out to a motel in the middle of the night?
“Fuck.” Billy cursed out loud as he leaned against his car in the almost completely empty parking lot. The teen took a long drag of his cigarette, coughing a few times in the process. If he was someone else, he might cry at being stood up. But he’d been taught from a young age not to be a pussy.
The quiet of the empty parking lot was broken by the sound of footsteps. The blonde looked in the direction of the noise to see a man approaching him.
“Hey, kid,” the guy called out, “got a light?”
Up close, the guy looked around his dad’s age. Billy raised an eyebrow at why the man would be in an abandoned parking lot in the middle of the night, but considering his position, Billy wasn’t one to judge. Watching as the man took out his carton of Camels with a laugh.
“Came out here for a smoke break, and I forgot that damn lighter. Can you imagine?” Billy shrugged. Not in the mood to refuse the guy as he wordlessly reached for his lighter. Flicking it a few times before it came to life and holding it out to the man. “Thanks.” The man dipped his cigarette in the flame and brought it up to his mouth. Billy expected the guy to walk back wherever he came from, but instead, he moved to stand next to Billy. Leaning against the teen’s car like he owned the damn thing. Billy was slightly annoyed as the guy kept talking. “Beautiful night, ain’t it?”
“I guess.” Billy finally spoke to which the man grinned. Leaning way too close as he continued to talk. Jesus, hadn’t he heard of personal space?
“Ah, so he talks!” The guy laughed again. “I was watching you from my room over there.” He pointed in the general direction of the motel. “Couldn’t help but notice you waiting out here, all alone. You waiting for someone?”
There was something seriously off about this guy. Maybe it was the way he talked or maybe it was the way he was asking weirdly specific questions, but Billy didn’t like it. The guy had been spying on him from his room. That wasn’t a normal thing people did. Unable to think of an excuse to make the guy go away, Billy turned away from him. He hoped the cold shoulder would give the guy a hint. The teen was fully intent on finishing the cigarette as the man ambled beside him. After a solid minute and a half of the guy just, staring at him, Billy gave up on the smoke. He dropped the cigarette bud on the ground and grinded it under the toe of his shoe. Tbe boy started to walk over to the driver side of the car when he felt a hand grab the back of his head.
“Hey!” The man snapped as his fingers knotted themselves in Billy’s hair. The teen grunted as the taller man slammed him into the side of his car. “Anyone ever tell you it’s rude to ignore your elders?”
“Yeah, they also told me not to talk to strangers.” Billy retorted. Reaching back and grabbing the man’s hands, trying to pull him off. The teen grit his teeth and brought his head back hard enough to slam into the man’s nose. The stranger grunted from pain as he fell back slightly. Billy looked at his driver door blocked by the stranger and then the motel. Making a split-second decision to run to the motel lobby for help. His feet carried him as Billy felt fear start to ebb its way in his gut.
‘Come on, he’s bigger than you, but you can still kick his ass. Why are you running away like a scared little girl?’
Neil’s voice was always there in the back of his mind. Constantly insulting him even as he ran for his life.
The teen was almost to the front door when he felt the weight of the man slam into him, knocking him to the ground. Billy’s head hit the concrete of the parking lot hard enough to disoriente him. The teen barely comprehended the man as he kneeled down and began to crawl on top of Billy.
“Get-get the fuck off me.” Billy managed to get out despite his disorientation. The man didn’t stop moving. Instead, he slammed one hand over Billy’s mouth as he dragged the younger man back towards the nearby underbrush along the side of the road. The man was panting now, leaning less than an inch away from Billy’s face. The teen could feel the man’s sweat practically falling on him as he spoke.
“Now, why don’t you be a good little boy and stop making this so hard.” Billy could feel the pit in his stomach grow as he heard the man unbuckle his pants.
'If you were a real man, this wouldn’t be happening.’ His father’s voice spoke up again. 'You deserve this for being so weak.’
Billy could feel hus body go numb as the stranger forced himself down Billy’s throat. He gagged, trying to pull away, but the man only slammed into him harder. For the first tune in a long while, Billy allowed himself to cry. His mind thankfully allowed him to block out what was happening as his mind wandered back to Santa Monica.

“911, what’s your emergency?”
Billy stared at the phone in his hands as the woman spoke. He was shaking. Barely able to hold the damn thing as he trembled. Eyes darting back behind him at a sudden noise. The small phone booth he was in felt claustrophobic as the panic refused to go away.
“Hello? Is anyone there?” The woman asked again. Billy’s breath was heavy as he wiped his face. “Hello? Can you-?” The responder was cut off by the teen as he slammed the phone back on the receiver.
“Damn it.” Billy cursed as he wiped his face with his hand. Looking at his reflection in the glass of the booth, Billy saw he was a mess. Clothes barely pulled back on with bruises and cuts littering his body. He wasn’t sure why he bothered trying to call. What was he even going to say? Hey, yeah, my name’s Billy Hargrove, and I just got raped? Who would even believe him? He was a guy. Guys-men didn’t get raped. The thought of what his father would say if he found out…
The stranger was long gone now. Glancing around to make sure the parking lot he was in was still empty, Billy finally felt safe to let his back hit the wall behind him as he fell to the floor, now openly sobbing.
Taken from the actual script
something about the way people seem to look at max and billy’s dynamic as that of a parent and child rather than step siblings, something about how people see his behaviour towards her in this light and it skews the whole narrative, something about people thinking there’s a massive power dynamic between them for this reason, something about people comparing billy’s behaviour towards max and neil’s behaviour towards billy, something about how siblings do fight and do argue and do break each other’s possessions but because billy has been pretty much parentified by not only neil and susan but also the audience, people don’t look at their behaviour as that of siblings, something about how this adds to people not seeing billy as his actual age but rather a fully grown adult
had a spicy thought. didn’t know where else to take it. steve with bruised knuckles and when billy notices and mentions it steve oh so casually explains that he had his hand between billy’s head and the headboard while they were fuckin’ so that billy didn’t hurt his head. billy blue screens. full Error 404’s but when he comes back online he realises that oh fuck he’s in LOVE with steve fucking harrington. um. yeah. that’s it…that’s the thought.
Please that is so cute 🤧 billys too lost in the sauce while he’s getting fucked to even realize Steve’s cradling his head lmao that thought does not even occur to him until steve mentions it and then he’s like “oh…okay 🥺👉🏻👈🏻” HE WANTS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF HE NEEDS IT!!!
And then ya know he can take Steve’s hand and kiss his bruised knuckles all gentle too 🥰
steve
literally no one is hate criming the straight white man for absolutely no reason i don’t know who needs to hear this
how to become more intelligent:
1. define hate crime.
2. identify who the term 'hate crime' applies to.
3. describe eddie's physical features.
4. list eddie's canon facts.
5. realize that eddie is canonically a straight white man (you cannot say hes neurodivergent if neither the actor or show has strictly stated he is. that's up to debate so it isn't canon)
6. talk to real people
billy thinking he’s experiencing literal hell when he gets flayed specifically because that’s what neil told him happens to people like that is such an interesting concept actually
People calling Steve pretty boy when he's right there I-
"Billy would hate being called Baby Girl"
Billy would get a 'Baby Girl' tramp stamp. Do not test me.
steve and billy becoming friends and steve finding out billy’s gay while they’re still just friends and having complicated feelings about it is something that just hits every time
This has no right to be so funny to me lmfao
There are just some things Billy won’t try
Whatever you do don't think about fireworks setting of Billy's ptsd from Starcourt so on New Year's Eve Steve drives them deep into the country where its quiet
when my mom decides that the best way to start the new years is by bringing home my abusive father 👍 who cares about restraining orders right lmao, who cares about starting a new year with more trauma for your children <3
love that we all just collectively agree that billy is a subby bratty bottom for kilt guy
