when a country/government is overthrown and replaced (like Soviet or TR for example) they do //die. But their influence is still going to hang around, because they're still relevant to how politics will be run in the future, and they probably still have a few supporters left.
So what I think is that the dead country, while basically gone, is a kind of ghost who lives on in the current country's mind. The only one who can see them is the country who replaced them. And it's not like the dead country is fully mentally active, they just speak up now and again when something catches their interest. The dead can also briefly possess their host, but this rarely ever happens as it takes a lot of energy and willpower. Consent from the host is usually required for the possession to be successful.
(also America leaves pepsi at soviet's grave sometimes. it isn't sovame, America still hates soviet, but he has a certain respect for him. the pepsi idea belongs to @ sovietsushi on insta, the ghost bit is mine)

the space race may be the funniest point in history period and i'll stand by that. the US is like "yes whoever gets into space first will prove once and for all that our economic model is superior and that we are, in general, the superior country of superior and smarter people." then the soviets just went and did it and the US freaked out and needed to cover their ass so were like "WE MEAN THE MOON, WE MEAN THE FIRST TO LAND ON THE MOON."
we seriously need to bring back the concept of “despite its flaws i still enjoy it” instead of ‘cancelling’ every fuckin thing in sight
#we need to trust that just because someone loves a thing it doesn’t mean they don’t know it’s flawed
We also need to stop insisting that everyone enjoying flawed things must put 25 cents in the Problematic Jar and recite all its failings from memory.
If I just may add: we really need to stop pretending that “I’m a Good person, ergo the thing I like is PERFECT and if you criticize it you’re an ENEMY”. You can enjoy stuff AND keep your sense of critical thinking.
