A few months ago, I said on this blog that in my head PJO is an anime with a badass opening credits. I meant it quite literally, like I can actually picture this OP in my head, with all the shonen tropes like Percy walking around pretty backgrounds, cool fighting scenes with lots of camera movements and huge statues of the Gods standing ominously in the background, Nico standing in the rain till Reyna and Hazel and Jason come for him and a ray of sunshine breaks throught the clouds and light hits his hopeful face, GIMME ALL THE TROPES hahaha. Doing the whole opening would be impossible for a single person but I really wanted to try one big “shonen” group shot, so here you are !!! This actually took me AGES, I’m not kidding, the folder for this on my computer is named “batshit crazy ” for a reason, it may not look like it if you don’t know animation but a really huge amount of work went into this. I think it’s actually the biggest thing I ever did for a fandom. I can’t say how many hours I spent on it since I didn’t count, but let’s say I started this in September and spent a lot of week ends and most of my Christmas holidays on it, and I just finished it this week. I had a lot of fun though !!! And I learned a lot too, this was my first time trying to animate japanimation style, with not many in-betweens and ultra dynamic poses. So yeah, I hope you guys will like it !

I want to thank fimyuan and bisexualjason for keeping me motivated with their lovely comments through the project, even when I was complaining about my own decisions to animate friggin’ skeletons, hahaha. Another big thank you to my friend Wekake who went through the animation frame by frame and spotted all the little compositing mistakes that remained ;p

A few words on the process : I animated and colored everything in TV Paint, drew the background in Photoshop, and composited everything in After Effects. The song is an extract of the Yowapeda opening “Reclimb” by Rookiez is Punk’d because I wanted something very distinctively shonen but no lyrics, and I like that song ^^ I animated directly without any model sheet references which is definitely not how you should do it, hahaha, hence the design inconsistencies, but honestly even my madness had its limit and I didn’t want to spend more than a year on this thing ;p

It’s a Percy Jackson Halloween!

It’s after the war with Gaia and Camp Half-Blood holds a Halloween party (costumes are mandatory)

Annabeth, as she does every year for Halloween, dresses up as Hermione Granger 

Although she did consider changing things up and going as a classic Sherlock Holmes, but decided to stick with tradition

Percy, being an awesome boyfriend, lets Annabeth talk him into going as Harry Potter (after all they both have dark hair and green eyes)

The characters might not be love interests, but they are best friends just like Percy and Annabeth

Piper goes as an almost grotesquely real looking zombie

The Aphrodite cabin is known for being extremely good make up artists, so Halloween was just another project for them

And by the looks Piper gets, her and her siblings did not fail

Jason, opposite to Piper, has a horrible Dracula costume

He wears fake plastic vampire teeth and a cheap black cape that looks hand sewn by a kindergartner 

Piper can’t stop laughing at him when he tries to look intimidating and says in an awful accent “I want to suck your blood”

Hazel, being a super fan of the show, goes as Opal from Steven Universe

Everyone tells her how she looks like a real gem tonight

Hazel can’t help but be proud of herself as her costume was all homemade, but looks almost perfect to Opal in the cartoon

When Frank was trying to figure out what he’d go as he suggested he’d just turn into an animal or something

The rest told him that was cheating and he needed an actual costume

So Frank shows up to the party as a cowboy

Hazel can’t help but blush because he looks so darn cute in his blue cowboy hat

Rachel and Grover team up together to wear one of those horse costumes

It ends up not working at all and they trip at least every five minutes

It makes a great story though

Reyna went, surprisingly, as a princess

But not a pink, poofy dress kind of princess

I’m talking like an actual Renaissance princess dress

Last, but not least is Nico

Nico goes to the party without a costume

Will, who’s dressed as a punk rock star, lectures Nico on how it’s a costume party

Needless to say, at the end of the party Nico’s begrudgingly wearing a set of blue and pink, sparkly fairy wings

I feel like Piper was the only one who really cared that Leo was gone. I mean, sure the others felt sad too, but I think Piper was affected the most because she and Leo were friends the longest, even before Jason showed up. So yeah…

(Also, this is just my opinion, I’m not saying this is what happened please don’t hate me)

Originally from Costa Rica, the Bolivar twins have always been the best of friends. Raised by their father near the beach, they grew up with a love for soccer and can often be found juggling together while bickering. Prior to arriving at Camp Half Blood when they were 14, their summers were spent at the waterfall where their dad met their mother, Iris. These afternoons were spent eating mango, practicing what they believe to be twin telepathy (and what everyone else says is just them knowing each other really well) and Nina trying to understand why her brother tans so much more easily than she does. The twins can also always be found wearing matching rainbow Pura Vida bracelets that they crafted with their dad as children and only wear shoes when it is absolutely necessary.
