Pairing: Mycroft x reader
A/N: This was a request with a prompt from my new prompt list (âIt was you. The whole time only you.â) It is my first time writing Mycroft and I hope it is okay the way I've wrote it. I hope you enjoy reading it. âĄâĄ
PS: Requests are open guys. :)
It is a rainy day at the beach. You are new in this town and there are no children which want to play with you. Most of the time you would be here building sandcastles.
A boy stands in front of you, looking down at your building. âCan I play with you?â You nod but still being curious about him. âMy name is Mycroft. And yours?â
âOkay y/n, should I go and collect some shells for the castle?â
âLetâs collect them together.â, the both of you stand up and begin to walk down the beach. The wind is cold and the sky is dangerously grey. Slowly you started talking with Mycroft and you had a lot of fun. âWho lives in your castle? The queen?â
âNo, she already has one. Thatâs my castle.â Mycroft lays his shells in your tiny hands and rubs the sand of his knees. âCan I live there too?â A smile appears on your face. There aren't a lot of children which try to play with you, the reason is you seem to be strange to them. All the time you play alone, but now having someone, who wants to spend time with you, fills you with joy.
Since this day you've been friends with Mycroft. Together you were able to hate other people and to judge them. But time changed, after school Mycroft began to work in London and you moved away to study. Not to forget the last time you've met which went awfully wrong.
âMiss y/l/n, I need to see you.â, your boss ain't a nice person, you hate him and if you could you would resign from this job, unfortunately you need the money.
Sitting in front of him makes you uncomfortable, his dirty eyes pierces you, his yellow smile causes nausea. âSo Miss y/l/n, we need you to go to London for a meeting. We got a new client and I need someone who can represent this company in the best way. You aren't my first choice, I wanted Miss Davis to go but she thought it would be a great time to give birth to her baby.â You can tell that he's angry. He ain't angry because I have to go, you know that, itâs because there is one less mare in his stable.
âI'd go myself but I have to take care of another client. So you have to go. Tomorrow is the meeting.â
âBut I'm not prepared, I donât know the client, I donât know the case, nothing.â
âBelieve me, you know the client, he will tell you about this case.â You donât have a choice, a nod is all your boss gets before you leave his office.
You sit in a warm car while the rain runs down the window. Itâs a typical day in London and you enjoy this because this city has its own charm. The last time you were here was some years ago. Mycroft invited you to see his new workplace, while you weren't sure if this is legal Mycroft gave you a private tour of the whole building. âMycroft? Iâm not sure if this is allowed.â All you were able to hear was a laughter and a click when he opened another door with his new, own keys. âI donât know since when you care about rules..â
âI still donât care about rules but Mycroft, this is the fucking Buckingham palace, you can lose your job!â
âNot if no one finds out.â He opened a large door and behind it was a balcony. You stepped out, enjoying the sight over the large estate in front of you. The night was cold, a little bit windy, but beautiful. While you looked into the sky Mycroft stepped next to you. âI can't believe how beautiful this is. It's strange to imagine you working here. Well... no, it suits you.â
A smile appeared on Mycrofts face. âThank you.â He hasn't talked that much the last few days, that made you uncomfortable. There was a special connection between the two of you, he looked differently at you, talked softer and his hands searched for more contact than usually. You liked it, since a very long time you felt some kind of love for him, of course Mycroft knew that. Not only because of his brilliant mind, Sherlock mentioned it every time you've visited them at home, which made you mad. But Mycroft never lost a word about it, so it was a suspicious feeling knowing, that he tried to come closer to you now. âY/n, there is something I need to tell you. But I donât know how and itâs not the right time...â
âItâs okay Mycroft. I feel the same.â Finally, you thought, itâs going to happen.
âI know. Y/n, the thing is.. this is my work now. I donât know what will happen in future, what kind of people I will meet or problems. I donât know how to handle this with you on my side.â You felt like a train hit your stomach. âSo what do you mean?â
Mycroft sighted while he tried to avoid eye contact. âI guess we will have less contact in the future, I need to concentrate on my work and on Sherlock.â Tears filled your eyes, suddenly the cold air bothered you, everything bothered you, even Mycroft. âSo you brought me to this beautiful place to tell me that you have feelings for me but donât want to spend time with me in the future. Itâs like a cut to get away from me?!â
âY/n.. no, please let me explain-"
âNo this is egoistic Mycroft Holmes. I know you have problems with feelings, I know that you donât know how to handle them sometimes but this is just huge crap.â The tears began to run down your cheeks and Mycroft didn't know what to do. âEscort me out. Now.â He looked down at his feet, nodded and showed you the way outside. None of you talked while you walked through the building. At the gate Mycroft tried to talk to you. âDon't go just like that.â
âNo.. yes.. but not like that. Not after all this time.â His voice was shaking, he tried to reach for your hand but you took it away. âGoodbye Mycroft Holmes.â
This memory causes you to feel sad. All the years your thoughts were by Mycroft, what he's doing and how. You miss him but there was no way to get in contact with him again. Until now..., the heat rises in your head, your palms begin to sweat. Mycroft is this important client and as soon as it is clear to you the door of the car opens and you have to go out. Two huge men are waiting for but your thoughts are only about Mycroft. âMiss y/l/n? Please come with us, your new client waits inside.â You canât remember walking these hallways with Mycroft but perhaps you are just to excited to see him. One man knocks at the door and a silent âCome in" could be heard. You enter the room and there he sits.
A little bit older than the years before but also greater just like you've imagined him all the years. His eyes meet yours and his hard expression gets soft, for a couple of seconds he doesn't know what to say. âYou can go now, thank you.â, the men get out of the room and now itâs just the two of you. âY/n...â
Mycroft clears his throat. âYes well.. uhm. Sherlock. He is in trouble.â It is a surprise to you, not that Sherlock is in trouble but that he needs help is something new to you. The both of you talk about the case just like youâve never met before but your looks at each other were full of feelings. âI will stay in London until this problem is solved.â
âThank you. Do you got a hotel?â
âThank you.â Silence. You just look at each other, feeling the tension in the air. âSo, you are my client?â
Silent. Again. You are angry about the fact that Mycroft behaves like you two don't share a past. âWhy me?â
âWhy did you have to get me here to solve this problem. After all these years of silent I have to come here to help Sherlock?â
âWhat do you want? Talk about the years which have passed?â
You smiled ironically. âPerhaps?! Weâve been friends for a long time, thatâs what people do when they see each other again after a long time!â
âOkay, what do you want to hear?â All you want to hear is that he missed you, that he is sorry. âYou know Mycroft, Iâve thought a lot about this moment. How we will meet again, why and how it will end.-â
âTo be honest, I don't know how to handle it. You seem so strange but at the same time so familiar. I have missed you so much but also I've hated you. I donât know anything about your life right now. Do you have a wife? Do you have children?â
âI don't know! I guess I want you to be happy. And thatâs it.â Mycrofts expression don't reveal anything, this man still is a huge secret to you. âIs there somebody in your life?â You shake your head and look down at the desk. Mycroft stands up from his chair, walks to the window while his hands are behind his back. âThis evening a couple of years ago didn't went as I wanted it to. I loved you and this new job and all the problems and dangers made me fear for you safety. I didn't wanted you to get in trouble or danger because of me. I wanted you to be save, maybe it was the wrong way to push you away so you would be save.â
Mycroft turns to you. âI know.â He steps away from the window towards you, your stomach is filled with butterflies and your cheeks get rosy because of the heat in your head. âI wish I could turn back time so we could be together and I could take care for you. There ain't anybody in my life, it was you. The whole time only you. I never was able to escape from my love for you and maybe it was also wrong to get in touch with you like that but I needed to see you again, even if it would be the last time.â
âDo you want it to be the last time?â
âMy good y/n of course not. But I could imagine that you want it to be and I would understand this.â
âI donât want it.â Mycroft reaches for your hand, looks in your eyes and smiles. âMay I can have the permission to kiss you?â You nod and the soft feeling of his lips appears on yours. It feels like a dream after all these years. You interrupt the kiss after a couple of seconds. âYou arranged this, don't you? It isn't a coincidence that I have to solve a problem for Sherlock.â
âThere ainât no problem to solve.â
âHow was I supposed to get you here? Calling you after all these years? Showing up at your door?â
âYou know where I live?â
âOf course. I needed to know that you are safe. I didn't spy you but I knew your problems and some of them I've solved for you.â You donât want to know how or why, all that matters is Mycroft. There will be time to argue with him about that but it ain't the right time.
