āHuh,ā she sighs.Ā āSo, thatās a rugaru.ā
āMm-hmm,ā you swallow.Ā āWhy? Whatād you expect?ā
Jo pauses a moment to think before saying finally,Ā āNot a flamethrower.ā
You laugh.
She glances down to where you roll your beer bottle between your palms, letting the glass cool your burnt hands. In all the commotion of killing the thing, your hands caught a bit of fire. The skin has started to blister, but you press it to the glass and ignore the pricks of pain.
She nods at the bottle, eyebrows raised in question, not waiting for an answer before standing up to cross the cramped motel room and throw open the door of the mini-fridge.
You finish your last swig of beer and set your bottle on the table.Ā āNot everyday you get to use one of those.ā
āNo kidding,ā she calls behind her.
Suddenly hit by a wave of fatigue, you let your gaze drift to the empty chair she left across the table, vaguely aware of the clattering in the fridge.
She returns carrying two bottles by the neck in one hand and a dripping towel in the other.
You eye the towel.Ā āWhatās that for?ā
Without a word, she reaches across the table, grasps your hands gently, sending a wave of pinpricks through your skin, and places the towel in your hands.
āOh,ā you gasp in surprise at the ice-cold towel. It relieves the burning in your palms suddenly, leaving a numbing sensation. āThanks.ā
āSure.ā
She moves to take her hands away but stops. You realize that it was your own hands that stopped her, gripping onto hers of their own volition.
You let go of her, your cheeks burning, and press your palms again to the towel of ice. You look down at your lap, unable to even glance her way for fear of the horror, confusion, or, even worse, indifference you might find.
You barely feel her wrap her hands around the backs of yours. Your breath still, you slowly raise your eyes to her.
Description: Charlie Bradbury has been on the road for as long as she can remember, couch to couch and car to car. Parties, drinking- theyāve never been her favourite things, but theyāve been there. Sheās never considered any place her home, though. Until she arrived at Harvelleās Roadhouse. Until she met Jo.Ā
Sneak Preview:
āYour name is not Carolyn Card,ā Jo scoffed. āCāmon, tell me. It can be our little secret.ā She was leaning across the bar in front of Charlie, who has resting her chin on her hands.
For a moment, Charlie didnāt say anything. She didnāt want to tell Jo her name; Celeste Middleton felt so alien.
āFine, you want to know?ā Jo nodded. āCharlie. Charlie Bradbury.ā
Jo pursed her lips, mulling it over in her mind. āItās definitely more believable than Carolyn Card.ā She nodded her head. āCharlie.ā
She noticed the lack of the disbelieving tone. Jo looked at her, then walked away without another word.
āThatās it?ā Charlie called after her. She didnāt get a response.

I realize Iāve been quiet lately, but I just wanted to let you all know that this is still a writing blog and I will still be posting fics here. Iāve been really busy lately with the podcast and finals, but Iāll be getting fics out soon (and answering requests from, like, six months ago). Sorry for abandoning you guys for a bit.
Well, we have a podcast. @fanfic-from-a-67-impala and I are very excited to announce Zero Luck With the Ladies! Itās where weekly, weāll be talking about the wonderful women of Supernatural. Treatment within the writing, specific character story arcs, speculation for the fifteenth season and more.
The first episode, talking about all the ladies of season fourteen will be dropping some time early this week. Check back at the podcast blog @zeroluckwiththeladies to find it, other episodes and updates!
Back from my post-Mary hiatus, and I have Things to say.
All right, folks, it finally happened. They killed her off. I donāt know what I was expecting. Did I think this show would, for once, treat a female character with the respect she deserved? Did I think the fandom, now that they didnāt need to experience the utter horror of seeing Mary on their screens, would refrain from the hate that still greatly outnumbers Mary-positive content? Was I expecting some kind of uprising from this pattern of fridging and disposable women and passed-over female-oriented spin-offs?
Of course not.
Weāre talking about Mary Winchester, one of the most hated characters on this show, for whatever reason. No one was going to stand up for her or the part she played (or, rather, could haveĀ played if the writers had been competent enough to handle her character in the narrative) in the showās story.
āSupernatural will always be about Sam and Deāā
WE KNOW. God, do we know. That doesnāt explain why this show is able write their other male characters as their own characters with their own plots but consistently fails to show their women the same respect.
After Charlie was killed and Wayward was passed, Mary, to me, was this showās saving grace (aside from Rowena, that is).
I always thought Maryās (second) death would be the reason I stopped watching this show. When the announcement that Supernatural would end with season 15, I told myself that she would only need to make it though one more season until I could imagine a happy ending for her. I thought Iād know if and when they actually killed her whether or not I would really leave the fandom. Itās taken me about a week and a half of avoiding everything Supernatural-related (which, by the way, is super difficult when youāve dedicated your entire life to this one show). Long story short, Iāll be staying for at least a while longer, but in a lesser capacity than before. Letās just say, no more Spn-themed tattoos for me. No more religiously refreshing the CW page to watch the new episode the minute itās uploaded. No more missing out on real-life things for the sake of this fandom.
But Iāll still be here creating content because thatās how I can honor Mary and her contribution to the show. Iāll keep up with the news and engage in discussions. And, after years of wondering whether I neededĀ Supernatural to be a part of my life, whether I could live without it, I can finally re-enter this fandom knowing that Iām here because I wantĀ to be here. For the most part.
In light of the CW releasing thisĀ 14.17 promo scene and all the speculation that Mary is going to die, hereās a blog update.
Over the years, Supernatural has given me many reasons to boycott the show. Killing Kevin, killing Charlie, killing Kaia, bringing Kevin back only to kill him again. The list goes on. But Iāve always loved this show more than Iāve hated it, so I continue to watch it and support it and create fan works for it.
Thereās no doubt that I love Mary Winchester. I would even go so far as to say sheās my favorite character. Sheās in the icons of both my Spn blogs, Iāve written fics about her, Iāve gif-ed endless frames of her, and Iāve gotten into many a Tumblr war defending her. I was thrilled when they brought her back for season 12, and Iāve enjoyed every second of watching her on screen.
If you havenāt watched the 14.17 promo scene yet, hereās an excerpt:
Mary: I just need you to know, Iām grateful for every day I get to spend with you and Sam.
*camera cuts to a worried-looking Dean, dramatic music*
Before watching this, with the knowledge she would be in the upcoming episode along with the rumor of the painful death later this season, I was slightly concerned for her. I took comfort in the fact that Meredith Glynn wrote this episode as I enjoy the Mary she writes, and I had faith that she wouldnāt needlessly kill off this character.
Now, Iām much more worried.
Iāve impulsively written in tags somewhere that if they kill off Mary Iām done with this show. The truth is, I wonāt really know if Iāll stop watching and blogging until it happens, and maybe not even then, but I know itās a possibility.
I thought Iād type up this post in case something does happen to Mary tonight and I decide to end my relationship with this show. As much as I hope I wonāt need to, I want to prepare for the possibility by letting you all know what a huge part of my life this show has been and how much Iāve enjoyed my time in this fandom, however conflicted about it I have felt at times.
I sincerely hope this show wonāt give me yet another reason to call it quits. Iām logging off for a few hours until the episode is released online to avoid spoilers. See you on the other side (hopefully).
Well, that was thoroughly unsatisfying, but I guess Iāll be around for another week (you know, to watch the episode that Mary is apparentlyĀ not in).

Summary: Patience as damsel in distress. Alex as knight in shining armor.
Warnings: angst, injury
A/N:Ā This is for @kaianieves because itās her birthday.
Also, M, you can consider this an armed attack as part of our angst war. Your move.
Patience opens her eyes, her hands and feet absently pulling against their binds. The back of her skull throbs, and her throat is parched. She doesn't panic anymore when she sees she's been tied to a chair in a dark warehouse.
She's lost count of how many times in a row she's woken up like this.
āOh, good.ā The grating voice of her captor sends a pounding through her head, making her wince. āI was afraid I'd have to find a new psychic soon, but it looks you've still got a little bit of life left in you.ā
He approaches Patience, stroking her cheek.
She wants to flinch away, to bite his hand, something, but her muscles feel like jelly, so weak she thinks she might pass out if she so much as turns her neck.
He raises his hand, a thin spike protruding from his wrist.
Patience hasn't spoken a word in days, and her voice comes out raspy and broken.
āPlease,ā she begs. āJust kill me already.ā
The wraith clicks his tongue. āNow, why would I do that?ā
He jabs the spike behind her ear.
Patience screams.
Alex has never been more sure of anything. She's done the math. She remembers Jody telling her about the last wraith who hunted Patience, how he discovered that psychic brains made a five-star meal.
This is the break in the case. After hours without eating, nights without sleeping, nine days searching for the thing that took Patience, she finally caught a break. She had heard whispers of a strange guy in town. She dug deeper, like she had with every hint of a lead, until she traced the guy from a town ā then two, then three ā where mysterious deaths had occurred and all the victims had deep puncture wounds at the bases of their skulls. Alex knew, and she knows now.
āYou sure this is the place?ā Jody glances between her and the road.
Alex is loading their guns with silver bullets in the passenger seat.
āI asked around,ā she explains. āPeople said they saw the guy ducking into the old warehouse on 12th.ā
Jody takes a breath like she might say something, but she stays silent.
āWhat is it?ā Alex prods.
āItās nothing. Justā¦ā Jody glances at her again. āI donāt want you to get your hopes up again.ā
Alex pauses her work for a moment. āYou mean, like the other times?ā
Itās not a question, but Jody shrugs and nods.
āThe other times didnāt feel like this,ā Alex says, sliding the clip into place. āSheās there. I know it.ā
Jody keeps her eyes trained on the road, silent.
āAnd, uh, Jody?ā Alex tries. āIām sorry.ā
Jody raises her questioning eyes.
Alex continues. āAbout⦠you know. I shouldnāt have said the things I said. I know you care about Patience, and I know you were just looking out for me, like you always do. For all of us. I just think about her being out thereā¦ā
āI know, sweetheart.ā Jody places a hand on Alexās knee. āAnd even if weāre wrong about this one, everything is going to be okay. Weāll bring her home.ā
Alex nods. āI know.ā
But she doesnāt know. Neither of them can.
The old warehouse feels ominous under the blanket of nighttime. Alex can feel the tension in her bones, can see every rock on the ground, can hear every waft of the breeze.
She and Jody creep through the building, scanning the room for movement. They reach the corner of the room, finding nothing.
Alex turns around. She would have missed it if it werenāt illuminated by a square of moonlight pouring through a small window.
āPatience.ā
In the middle of the hall, Patienceās limp figure slumps forward in a chair, her eyes closed, her wrists and ankles bound with rope to the rusty piece of furniture.
Alex barely hears Jody shout her name in warning before she runs to Patienceās form. She slides on her knees to meet her chair.
āPatience?ā She cups Patienceās cheek, jostling it when the touch yields no response. āPatience, baby, please. Please wake up.ā
Jody circles the girls, her gun still raised, although they seem to be alone.
āPatience!ā Alex yells now, her chest growing tight.
She brushes Patienceās hair from her neck. Dried blood stains her skin around a gaping wound at the base of her skull.
Alexās blood runs cold.
āJā Jody?ā she calls.
She tears her eyes away from Patience to find Jody watching them with wide, horrified eyes.
Movement from behind Jody catches Alexās eyes.
Before she can warn her, Jody whips around and shoots the wraith twice in the chest. It falls to the ground.
Patience can't move when she first regains consciousness, can't even open her eyes. She knows she's not in that warehouse anymore. She can feel a bed underneath her.
There's something draped over her forehead. A wet towel, warm now.
She feels a pair of hands squeezing one of hers. They're Alexās. She would know them anywhere. She's been craving their touch for days. She's missed everything about Alex, really ā her laugh, her arms wrapped around Patience, her lips pressed against hers.
Alexās hands leave hers. The towel lifts from her head and returns seconds later, cooler now. It feels good.
Alex holds her hand again, and Patience hears her sniffling. Itās enough to snap her out of her dreamy state.
She can barely open her eyes, but Alexās hands tense, picking up on it.
āPatience?ā she whispers.
Dark clouds dot Patienceās vision through half-opened eyes. When they clear, she can see Alexās glistening grey ones peering into them.
Alex swipes at her eyes with the back of her hand quickly, but not quickly enough. The whites of her eyes are still tinged pink, and so are her cheeks.
āHey.ā Alexās voice cracks on the word. āMorning, Sleeping Beauty.ā
Patience looks around. Sheās home at Jodyās, in the bedroom she and Alex share. Thereās a new map and a some newspaper clippings pinned to one wall above a desk. Next the the bed, thereās an IV pole holding a bag of something clear hooked up to Patienceās arm.
āItās just so we could get some fluids in you,ā Alex explains. āIāll take it out.ā
She removes the tape, pinches Patienceās arm, and slides the needle out. Her touch is gentle. It barely stings.
āHow you feeling?ā Alex asks.
Patience tries to speak, but only a moan comes out. She tries again.
āBetter,ā she says.
Alex bites her lip. It's a vague response, but she doesn't ask for more.
āDonāt cry,ā Patience says. The words are strangled in her throat, but Alex seems to understand.
āIām not crying,ā she insists.
Patience smiles. She feels too tired to say much more, but she tugs on Alexās hand with all the strength she has.
Alex takes the hint, crawling into the bed next to her.
Patience falls asleep, safe for the first time in a long time, with Alexās arms wrapped around her.
