The title of the chapter is literally Sebastian just apologizing for sneezing

Careful, Sebastian. Your demon is showing...

In chapter 150, there is a close up of Sebastian’s eye as he demonstrates his abilities to lure someone in - to the opium den and to partaking in the drug itself. Sebastian’s eye has the slitted pupil - as if a tiny bit of Sebastian’s more demonic side is making an appearance.

Now, Lau praises Sebastian’s performance and even says that Sebastian could be mistaken for a professional at being a corrupting influence.

Of course, Sebastian is a pro at being a corrupting influence, being a demon and all, but it’s interesting to me that Lau would say this just after Sebastian revealed a tiny bit of his true self.

Was Lau simply praising the performance or was he subtly saying he knows more about Sebastian’s true nature?

Immediately after, Sebastian refers back to his old line about being a hell of a butler. (Hello pun! We hadn’t missed you!)

This could be because this is just what Sebastian falls back on (and he was probably dying to say it), or there could be more. He might suspect that Lau is seeing through his act just a tiny bit, so Sebastian is quick to assure that he’s nothing more than a butler.

Were we witnessing an underlying conversation of one man saying, “I know you are more than you seem.”?

A Second Contract

Near the end of chapter 150, Lau and Ran Mao bow to our!Ciel and mimic Sebastian - much to our!Ciel’s surprise.

Lau almost immediately says that he just wanted to do that himself.

Lau’s bowing and saying, “Yes my lord,” to our!Ciel is also rather symbolic because, in a sense, he has also entered to a contract of sorts with ourCiel. When he first rescued our!Ciel and company, he said he was doing this so that our!Ciel would be in his debt.

Although now he’s making jokes about not believing in handouts and making them work for all he’s providing for them….

…I don’t think that this absolves our!Ciel of his original debt to Lau. The initial debt was for protecting them after all.

This means that, at some point, Lau plans to collect on this debt. It is similar to the contract with Sebastian in that Sebastian initially saved our!Ciel and now is helping him with the idea he will collect one day.

Although I sincerely doubt Lau’s price will be our!Ciel’s soul.
