The idea of tackling this scavenger hunt alone never once crossed Totoâs mind; a team was essential, and quickly one had found him. When Lumi steered him to the clothes rack, Toto proved that there was such a thing as âtoo amenableâ as he began pulling off his clothes in the middle of the plaza. Other passengers mingled and dispersed around him as he hung up his coat and fastened a new one in placeâleopard print, a perfect match. The outfit Dot had provided for Toto was striking, dazzling, just like him. As Lumi looked him over, Toto took to the attention like a plant absorbing sunlight, and thrived further still in the environment Lumi had created; one of theatrics.
Totoâs eyes brightened as Fantasma rushed to Lumiâs side and struck an equally dynamic pose. The urge to join in was impossible to resistâit was time to lend his name to the Rainbow Brigade.Â
âAnd whatâs that? Whoâs this?!â Toto swept in with a pose and a spin, arms cutting through the air. âItâs the golden dancer! Toto!â He fell into place in the line, now three members strong, and gave the audience another bold pose. By his showmanâs air, no one would have guessed that the audience only consisted of one manâTotoâs eyes settled on Nobody, wide and expectant. With the tips of his fingers, he beckoned the man forward.
Somehow their host knew exactly how to toy with him. Draped over his hanger was a full suit and tie, a heavy trench coat, even a badge. Nobody held the ensemble out in front of him. The look was an authentic one, and he would not deny that it struck a spark of excitement, but he couldnât kid himself. He would be no less a man in costume than if Dot had given him an evening gown to wear.
He returned to his team wearing his scavenging uniform in full, and under his arm he carried a shallow bowl with a dish rag draped over its contents. When he drew to a stop he felt the hem of his coat settle below his knees and could not help but smile a little. Images from American dramas flashed through his thoughtsâbut not for long.
The enthusiasm of his comrades and fearless leader was contagious. He laughed as each of them struck a pose, and when Toto turned the spotlight on him Nobody adjusted his arms around the bowl and applauded. It wasnât until seconds later that he realized he should have joined in.
âOh. And, uh⊠Nobody.â he said, and laughed again. His eyes darted to each of his teammates. âYouâre all looking smart. Here. Brought us some fuel.â Nobody swept off the dish towel and held out the bowl. Arranged in a circle was an assortment of donuts. He snatched one for himself and tore off a generous bite.
âSo,â he continued around a mouthful, âanyone got any bright ideas?â
âOho~ A fabulous idea. We canât conduct a proper investigation on empty stomachs! Brigade, eat up!â
Lumi broke from her posing to pick a donut with pink icing out from the pile. She didnât particular care about the flavor so much as she cared about how cute it was. It even matched her outfit! Had Nobody done that on purpose? The rascal.
âThink before you speak, Nobody! Donât you know Iâm always full of flawless ideas~?â
Lumi took a proud bite of her donut as she looked over their provided lists. It seemed easy enough to reason that each of these clues corresponded with a different guest. Considering how many their were, it was likely it was for those left living as wellâŠÂ
âThe most logical place to begin our search is with ourselves, hm? Ah, and that isnât some sort of hippie nonsense. I believe we each possess something that might work for these clues. For instanceâŠâ
Lumi tapped her cheek. One of these had to match something she owned. Then it struck her.Â
âIt protects you from others, and others from you.â
She covered her mouth in shock as she reached for the pocket of her skirt where she kept them⊠Her precious gloves. Lumi trembled. They were custom. How could Dot ask for such a thing?
âDot⊠is a monster⊠Itâs just too cruelâŠâ She removed the gloves from her pocket and showed them to the others. âThese⊠could possibly workâŠâ This was going to be an ordeal.Â
What a flawless team! Fantasma broke her pose and clapped for everyoneâs performance. Even Nobodyâs contribution was deserving of praise -- she was tempted to explain the merits of dramatic body language, but bringing food was much more like him.
But she didnât have any clue where to start, herself. Riddles were not exactly her strong point. Thankfully Lumi was just the opposite, although her discovery was only momentarily exciting. Fantasmaâs smile fell into a thoughtful frown.
âThe gloves?â She noted, tilting her head at the accessories as Lumi produced them. Just by looking at them she could tell they were high-quality and almost certainly expensive. The correlation between the cryptic words and the actual item in Lumiâs hands finally clicked. âAh, they protect in two ways! I see! You must give them to Dot?â
Daintily, absently, Fantasma removed a glove of her own and took one of Nobodyâs donuts. She nibbled at it for a few moments, getting her thoughts together before she spoke again.
âI do not know what belongs to me on the list... I will try to think of it! But I did not bring many things to the ship.â Her smile returned, and she looked to the others for affirmation. Her question was prompted more by curiosity than concern. âIt is OK with everyone? To give up your things?â
