Last year, the Global Comic Awards contest collaborated with Artfol, and I've felt like, why not. So, I entered and drew my ever second comic for this contest, presenting my two feline OCs, Ivory and Jade.
They are both nature spirits roaming the world, doing their jobs. Not actual, real cats, they just have this form in the current world, but they had different forms in different eras.
Ivory is a water spirit, responsible for the water cycle going smoothly.
Jade is a plant spirit, responsible for the vegetation's life cycle.
The theme was Deja Vu, and I really loved pairing this concept with a topic that is very close to my heart - nature.
- Since Ivory's power is water, she is usually can be seen - well, if humans could see her - with water droplets flying and following her around. But ever since the water is being polluted close to the cities, she, as the representation of clean, healthy water loosing her droplets
- What Jade refers to as "we saw this 4 times already" are the 4 mass extinction events from Earth's past. Currently, we are living the 5th one and humanity is the reason it is happening. The climate change we triggered and are fueling the deforestation, overpopulation, losing biodiversity and basically kicking up the planet's sensitive balance high up in the sky is resulting in losing species more rapidly than ever before.
- If you noticed the text colour changes - good catch! That's not an accident - the text goes full black as they get into a more heavy topic, and goes back to white as Ivory is accepting how the only way to continue on is accepting that she cannot change things outside of her reach and just move on, not worry about things she cannot change or avoid.
Spoiler: no, it did not get a placement sadly, but I am still super proud of this work, and actually the city panel with Ivory is my fav thing I've ever made :D Took me 3 days to line and shade it. Worth it.
PS.: originally this is one long strip, bc I am an idiot and misread the instructions, but so yeah... painful to post it on PC anywhere. So I cut it up. Had to :(
