Grief is fear. Fear of losing what you have already lost. Fear of forgetting what has already gone. You live in a constant state of anxiety, always on your tiptoes. It’s like knowing there’s an insect in your room. You see it for a second and then it disappears. Now you can’t sleep. You know it’s still there; you just can’t see it. You try to distract yourself. You busy yourself with other things. Yet your eyes keep drifting back to the place where you saw it last. You call your sister to help you find it, but even she can’t. The color of grief is the same as the color of the room. So you wait. You wait for it to appear again. And when it does, the fear returns with it. The pain stings, you flinch, you scream, and then you sit there watching it - unable to look away. ~ farah
