The Look: Doutzen Kroes

so after ogling all of the amazing outfits from the vogue cfda fashion fund awards earlier this week, doutzen kroes' is the one that has really stuck with me.  pretty much everything about doutzen's look is perfect from the would be demure if not for those killer cut outs white cushnie et ochs dress to her bronze shoes and most of all her amazing marc alary jewelry.  marc alary was one of this year's ten fashion fund finalists so to see his jewelry steal the show as one of the red carpet's hottest looks must have just been icing on a very chic cake.  i love the way marc takes inspiration straight from nature but executes his designs in deco styled precious metals and diamonds rendering them more ethereal than earthy.  the panther bracelet that doutzen is wearing in particular is one worth saving up for and definitely gives even the panthère de cartier a run for its money.  should you want to replicate the look sooner i've recommended a few pieces below that should suffice in the meantime.  pair them with the perfect lwd for a solid gold statement that's sure to make you feel like a supermodel.

Want of the Week: Dylanlex Bowie Necklace

so remember back when i was like i cannot wait to get me some of that good stuff when dylanlex launches?  well it's here and oh my god is it good.  drew has given you the gift of her expert layering in every single piece meaning you can get that #dylanlexneck in one fell swoop without having to scour flea markets around the globe.  each of the six handcrafted pieces combines antiqued metals with swarovski crystals for statement pieces that are beautiful with an edge.  it's impossible to pick a favorite, but it was the bowie necklace with its double horn pendant that instantly caught my eye.  seeing as how i've already mentally worked the piece into every outfit i can think of i thought i would share the ways i've come up with to wear it.  from the office to a hot date or dinner with friends to a night out, this is one statement you can make all week long.

the brilliance of mr. newton

i wanted to take some time to share one of my fashion, and by fashion i obviously mean jewelry, inspirations with y'all, the incomprable mr. newtonaka one of my favorite street fashion bloggers ever.  in a weird turn of events mr. newton actually found me two years ago.  i was walking to a friend's bbq in williamsburg one summer afternoon when a man stopped me and asked if he could please photograph me because he loved my floral dress and the light was perfect.  he followed this up with, "i swear i'm not a creep, i have a street fashion blog" and gave me a card with his website on it, or the golden ticket to street fashion as i like to think of it.  he took a couple of photos and asked if i could maybe make my hands a little less awkward and try to look a little more comfortable in front of the camera.  turned out no could do and needless to say i was never featured on his blog.  so while a street fashion star wasn't born that day a die hard mr. newton fan was.  living in new york and especially williamsburg is a fashion lifeline for me.  i once did an online interview for fader when they did a feature on new york shop girls, which went a lot better than the doomed mr. newton photo shoot mostly just because there were no cameras involved, and they asked me what my main source of fashion inspiration was.  i told them the subway and i stand by that to this day. so you can imagine how frustrating it can be to be on the road and cut off from my lifeline.  enter the street stlye blogger aka my saviour abroad.  while i have a number of go-tos to sate my need for inspiration (here's looking at you the sartorialist, street peeper, and citizen couture) mr. newton has remained a favorite.  maybe it's the attainable feel to the looks featured, maybe it's the beauty of the photography, or maybe it's just the fact that everyone looks happy.  whatever it is i just hope he keeps it up because my awkward hands and i would be lost without him!

Morocco Travel Diary

everytime i go to a store or a flea market or even a farmer's market i always wish that they had a section that is called "things abby likes".  we can get into the narcissistic psychology of that sentiment later, but for now i'm here to tell you that i found that place and it's called morocco.  every single turn in every single souq in every single medina led me somewhere amazing and introduced me to things i'd been pining for and to things i didn't even know i needed.  massive tribal jewelry, NEED IT!  hand tooled leather bags and belts, yes please!  the world's tiniest tajine for my poached eggs, how have i lived this long without it?!  to steal a cliche from every guidebook ever written, morocco truly is a feast for the senses.  and yes i know if i was on that new girl show i'd have to put money in the douchebag jar.  but honestly everything in morocco is scintillating, there are no mundane experiences.  we witnessed some of the most heated arguments over the most trivial of things but they always ended in a handshake and a glass of sugary mint tea.  and by the way morocco, i'm a little worried about your sugar intake.  we learned real fast that you have to order your mint tea sans sucre if you're not a fan of drinking syrup.  but that's just morocco i guess, once you figure it out you love it.  ugh, douchebag jar i know.  morocco was such an adventure, absolutely delicious, and a total treasure trove.  as a lover of jewelry, bright colors, and lentils morocco was pretty much heaven for me.

now that you've read about my adventure in morocco, i highly suggest that you keep that moroccan mania going strong and also read kelly framel aka the glamourai's travel diary from morocco over on her site (day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4, day 5).  her pictures, her outfits, and well her life really put mine to shame, but we've both got that brooklyn takes morocco thing going on.

Style Inspiration: Cher

anyone who knows me knows that i have a serious lady crush on the one and only cher.  i think it happened when i first saw the half breed album cover and i was like why is this not what my life looks like?   i would say that i've taken more than a few style cues from 60s and 70s cher.  lots of native american jewelry, tons of turquoise, long hair and great earrings, rings galore, fringe, etc.  i love how cher was and is still always pushing style boundaries and how she made essentially costume dressing seem effortlessly cool.  i love that she draws inspiration from so many different cultures, you might even say from far and wild...

Summer Lust List

Marfa Travel Diary

every time i mentioned that i was roadtripping out to california from austin i was told that i absolutely had to go to marfa.  so go i did and boy am i glad.  for starters the drive out there was incredible.  there were deserted desert highways with endless sky, there were teepees, there was prada!  it felt like stepping back in time or onto a movie set.  and you better believe i relished the fact that i was walking the hallowed ground where dame elizabeth taylor and her diamonds once walked while filming giant!  it was an amazing stop and it definitely piqued my fascination with west texas.  you better believe i'll be back sometime soon and i'm sensing some hot springs and some chihuahua desert in my future.  but for now, it's back on the road and onto new mexico!
