Drill is racking up the winners - he just got his 14th this year! His runners often win by daylight, and they have the speed to outduel their competition!

As a G1SW and MGSW, Drill’s stamping his foals with the class he showed as a racehorse. We’ve spoken to breeders who are very happy with their Drill horses; and those who have purchased them at auction are also finding that these horses are runners!

Homesteader a Great Producer for Get Away Farm

Our mare Homesteader certainly has been a great producer for us! She is the dam of 3 stakes winners (Conquest Two Step, Sheikh of Sheikhs and Homemade Salsa)! Pictured here as a foal in 2015, our filly Homemade Salsa ran great in the $50,000 Cincinnati Trophy Stakes on February 9! She was beaten only 1 1/4 lengths for the win, and looks to be in solid form again for 2018. We’re expecting big things from her this year!

2017 Two Year Olds Drive Two Step Salsa to His Best Year at Stud!

This coming two year old (pic is from November 2017) is training well and she looks the part! Could be a top two year old performer for Two Step Salsa in 2018! This Florida-bred is Time to Two Step, owned by Peter and Chris Halsall.

His two year olds have helped make 2017 Two Step Salsa’s best year at stud! Two Step Salsa as of December 11, 2017 is the #3 Two Year Old Sire in Florida! He has had 14 two year old winners and 3 two year old stakes winners (including a Grade 1 two year old stakes winner) in 2017! His 2017 two year old earnings currently stand at $561,154!

More hot two year old news: Two Step Salsa sired a $220,000 two year old (Two Steps Faster) that sold at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Sale in 2017! 

Two Step Salsa has sired 55 total winners this year, with total progeny earnings of $1,820,910 so far!

Introducing Get Away Farm’s New Website Design!

This month we updated the Get Away Farm website and thought it would be a good idea to provide a short tour if you haven’t visited the new site yet. We are pleased to announce that we’ve updated our foal galleries with 2016 Drill and Two Step Salsa foal photos. We had some really sharp looking foals this year and it’s especially fun because Drill’s first foals were born at the farm in 2016.

Speaking of Drill, he has a new page on the website. He’s a G1SW and breeders are very excited by his first crop. He was a big hit at our 2016 stallion show.

Two Step Salsa continues to succeed as a top 10 Florida stallion. He is already nearing the million dollar mark for progeny earnings for 2016, with several months left in the year. His Two Step Time is his latest stakes winner. Two Step Salsa has had 29 winners this year as of this writing.

Looking back to the 2008 Keeneland November Sale and Our Purchase of Homesteader

While most of the horse world's attention is on the Keeneland Sale this month, we wanted to take a moment and reflect back to the 2008 sale where we bought one of our foundation mares, Homesteader. 2015 has been a great year for her. Especially in light of her son Sheikh of Sheikh's big win in the Juvenile Dirt Sprint on the Breeders' Cup card on October 31, we thought it would be fun to look back at her history and what she has accomplished.

Her Story Began in Canada

Homesteader was foaled on May 1, 2003 in Ontario. She was bred by North Highland Farm and was owned during her racing career by Michael Sutherland and Nancy Clark. Homesteader was a winning, multiple stakes-placed mare trained by Gary Capuano and ridden by jockey Arnaldo Bocachica. In 2007 she finished second in the Primonetta Stakes at Laurel and the Whimsical Stakes at Pimlico. She also finished third in the Skipat Stakes at Pimlico and third in the HBPA West Virginia Stakes at Charles Town. Her race record was very consistent: Starts: 22 Firsts: 5 Seconds: 7 Thirds: 3 Earnings: $220,034. The highest Equibase Speed Figure that she earned was a very good 114.

She Became a Get Away Farm Foundation Mare in 2008

Get Away Farm purchased Homesteader at the Keeneland November Sale in 2008 for $40,000. She would go on to become an excellent producer for us.

Homesteader Produces Graded Stakes Winner Conquest Two Step

Her first stakes winner was Gr. 2 stakes winner Conquest Two Step, by our stallion Two Step Salsa. Conquest Two Step raced with the best of his generation and finished second by a neck to champion Shared Belief in the 2014 Malibu Stakes. Conquest Two Step got his most important win in the Gr. 2 Palos Verdes Stakes in February of this year.

New Stakes Winner Credited to Homesteader on Breeders’ Cup Day 2015

Homesteader continued to make headlines in May of this year when her son Sheikh of Sheikhs sold for $330,000 at Fasig Tipton. That horse lived up to his sale price with a gritty win on the Breeders' Cup card on Saturday, October 31st. In Race 2 Sheikh of Sheikhs took the Juvenile Dirt Sprint and became Homesteader's second stakes winner.
