List of things preferable to being isolated from someone you love, for weeks on end:
A slap in the face
A punch in the stomach
A cold bath in winter
Being locked in a cold, dark room
Cursing at yourself until you’re sick of your own voice.

You get the picture.
In the wake of the Paris attacks, France has extended and expanded its 'state of emergency' powers

Solidarity
Solidarity in times of trauma is a great thing. It goes without saying that we should extend sympathy to the victims of the Paris attacks. Yet, I can’t help thinking that if all of people whose avatars are emboldened with the French tricolor had instead the red, white, black and green of Palestine, the global impact would be immense. Palestine, unlike France, is an occupied land that is disappearing more and more every day. Its people desperately need our support and attention. This is no time for phony (inter)nationalism. We need to be aware of the agenda that seeks to divide us. We need real solidarity with all victims of terror, be they French, Lebanese, Palestinian or Burmese.
Do Christians even know about the Crusades? When the Catholic Church literally went on a murder rampage and killed innocent Muslims? Or what about the 500 years of intellectual darkness and poverty that the Catholic Church instilled into the majority of Europe? Lmao but “Islam is a threat to the world” ok.
We are the only people on Earth asked to guarantee the security of our occupier… While Israel is the only country that calls for defense from its victims

so there i am about the n in the banner we dropped from my uni’s lecture theatre building that reads ‘transphobia kills women’ after the government department invited to evil julie bindle to represent feminists in a debate on 'does hardcore pornography damage women?’
bindel is a TERF who claims that trans women aren’t women and people who have sex-change surgery are unnecessarily mutilating themselves. she also claims sexuality is a choice, that bisexual women are temporary lesbians and should choose to only sleep with women.
we started a petition to uninvite her from the debate which gained 285 signatures. the counter petition gained 8 signatures. she has also been no-platformed by NUS.
we arrived there at 2 for the 3pm start but found out they started it an hour early and changed the location after hearing there would be protests. security refused to let us in claiming it was full but we have photos from the inside of it being half full. when she came out she said she is willing to discuss with us, some refused outright, other asked her why she held these views she denied saying any of those things so we handed her the articles where she says these. it was at that point she got extremely defensive and stormed out of the building calling us 'a disgrace of a university’. the government department then asked us if they should hold a debate on the rights of trans* and if we were willing to speak, obviously they were told to fuck off because it is not up for debate.
