What: Johnny Pistolas Where: 2333 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009 Time: 5pm-7pm N&HH Rating: Go for: Tacos, Beer, and Margaritas
Review:
Location 10/10: Johnny Pistolas is located in the midst of Adams Morgan on 18th Street. If you plan on bar hopping then Adams Morgan is a great place for you. The closest metro station is Columbia Heights which is about a 20 minute walk. If the walk is too long for you (because when its too hot or too cold, 20 minutes seems even longer),
Frozen Margarita
then consider taking the bus or using a ride sharing or taxi service. The routes that can take you close or on 18th street are 42,43,90,96,H1, L2, and X3. Do NOT drive if you do not have to, parking here is extremely hard to find. Although it is possible to find parking in this area, it might take a 15 minute or more drive around the area to find.
Drink Selection /10: Like almost all Mexican restaurants the specialty here is a margarita, which is only $5 dollars during happy hour if you order a regular house margarita on the rocks or frozen. They have about 6 beers on draft such as IPA, Pacifico, and Dos Equis. I ordered the frozen margarita (as usual), and I guess small margaritas are becoming a trend now. Even though it was small, the tequila packed a punch. Still I can not give them a high score because once you purchase a 16oz margarita for only $5 and then you pay $5 for one half that size you feel like you are getting robbed of your money.
Food Selection 3/10: On Thursday when I went to Johnny Pistolas, the only food on happy
Baja Fish and Chicken Tacos
hour were there tacos which were $2 each. The tacos were very good to the point where I went back the next day to order them again. I ordered the baja fish (could have used a little more seasoning) and a chicken taco. Both were good especially for the price. The only downside of the food selection during happy hour at Johnny Pistolas is that the only deal that is offered are on their tacos. The regular menu prices are reasonable but during happy hour I prefer discounted food.
Price 10/10: Prices are cheap. I only spent $9 for my $2 tacos and margaritas. Aside from the select tacos being $2, they also offer $3 Tecate, $4 Pacifico, and $5 Margaritas. The items on their happy hour menu are very cheap but you still have to keep in mind the limited menu.
Johnny Pistolas Happy Hour Menu
Ambiance 9/10: The restaurant has a patio, and 2 indoor seating areas, I believe the upstairs area opens to the front for guest to stand chat and people watch others walking below on 18th Street. Although the restaurant was set up beautifully and clean, a little more attention could be taken to the restrooms.
Service 10/10: When I first walked into the restaurant inquiring about happy hour specials, the staff were extremely nice and answered all of our questions. They gave me there recommendations on the best tacos as well as the best drink to order.

Review:
Location 10/10:Colada Shop is located on T Street NW one block up from the Trader Joe’s on 14th Street (down the Street from Taqueria Nacional, check that review out if you haven’t yet). The closest metro station is the U Street Corridor and is between a 5-10 minute walk. There are ample bus lines that run adjacent to the location and you can quickly arrive by taking the 52,53,54,90,92,96 bus routes. If you plan on driving, street parking around 14th and T street is not too much of a hassle and should take you under 10 minutes to find a spot in walkable distance to the restaurant.
Drink Selection 7/10: For a café, there were surprisingly a lot more drink options than I was expecting. On top of the coffee and tea items they serve up, they also offer beers, wines, and specialty cocktails. I went for the Hotel Nacional, although it was small, the alcohol packed a punch and the presentation was beautiful.

Spinach and Cheese Empanada
Food and Drink
Food Selection 8/10: The food offered at the Colada Shop can be described as your typical café food with a Cuban twist. They offer sandwiches, empanadas, pastries, and salads. My friend and I decided to be basic and only try the chicken as well as the spinach and cheese empanada that turned out to be delicious, so we will definitely be back to try sandwiches and desserts.
Price 8/10: The only thing that is discounted for a happy hour special are select cocktail drinks so you shouldn’t expect any food items to be cheaper than what is listed on the regular menu. It would be nice to have at least a few food items to be a bit cheaper during happy hour times to enjoy with drinks
Colada Menu
Ambiance 9/10: The Colada Shop is small but the layout is able to accommodate many people. There is not a lot of indoor seating so I would advise you to go on a nice sunny day where you can utilize the outdoor patio.
Service 10/10: The staff was very friendly, while we were waiting for our items they engaged in conversation and when they told us to come back and see them again it felt extremely genuine

Happy Hour Etiquette
There is no secret that people who work in the bar/restaurant industry HATE college students and happy hour newbies ranging between the ages of 21-24 . It may be because this group is known to not tip, run out on checks, cause extra work for employees or sometimes all of the above. You may sometimes even notice those behind the bar are dismissive to the younger crowd who looks like they are…

What: Taqueria Nacional Where: 1409 T Street, NW Washington, DC 20009 Time: M-F 7pm-Close Saturday 9pm-Close N&HH Rating: /10 Go for: Delicious Tacos, Beer Don’t Go For: Margaritas! ( I know crazy right?)
Review:
Location 10/10: Taqueria Nacional is located on T Street NW one block up from the Trader Joe’s on 14th Street. The closest metro station is the U Street Corridor and is between a 5-10 minute walk. There are ample bus lines that run adjacent to the location and you can quickly arrive by taking the 52,53,54,90,92,96 bus routes. Drink Selection 2/10: Hopefully you read the title before reading the article, and to answer my own question, YES, I did find the world’s smallest margarita and if there are any margaritas in the world smaller then this and with the little amount of alcohol content then shame on whoever offered that drink. When I asked for their frozen margarita and the lady behind the counter first passed me the glass, I swore I was being pranked. For $7 dollars I paid for a small, itty bitty, barely 8
Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Frozen Lime Margarita
oz. glass of a lime margarita . I thought since the drinks were so small that the alcohol was really going to pack a bunch, but once again to my disappointment, IT DIDN’T! Aside from margaritas, they offer an assortment of beers that you can purchase by the bottle or can, no draft here.
Food Selection 6/10: The tacos were delicious! Authentic street style tacos. The food line is set up like Chipotle, so you tell them how many and the type of protein you would like, then you move down the line add your toppings and sauce, and finally you pay.
(From Left to Right) Egg & Green Chile, Fish, and Shrimp
Price 8/10: For cheap food, go to this establishment at anytime, but for cheap drinks only go during the listed happy hour times. If you are in the mood for a margarita and its before 7pm, then find another spot to get one because a tiny margarita for $7 is not worth is. After 7pm (during the restaurants official happy hour) the margaritas are $5, so if you missed your regular happy hour times, then this would be the only reason why I recommend you to get drinks at this establishment. The tacos run between $3-$4 depending on the type of protein you choose and depending on how hungry you are you will more than likely become full off of 2-3.

Ambiance 10/10: The restaurant was clean and easy to navigate. There is an outdoor patio in front of the restaurant but it was mostly being used by guest who had dogs. For those of you looking for a Pet Friendly environment, then this is the place for you.

Service 8/10: The staff was very helpful in recommending their favorite tacos as well as informing you of the best toppings that compliment the protein you chose. Maybe before purchasing margaritas the staff should show you the size of the margarita before purchasing (Just saying).
