Dangal - The Movie.
The screenplay keeps you engrossed throughout the duration of the movie in spite of its shortcomings. You are so engrossed during the movie that you realize how good the movie is only after coming out and pondering about the movie. Hats off to Fatima Sana Shaikh who played older Geeta Phogat, Sanya Malhotra who played older Babita Kumari, ZairaWasim and Suhani Bhatnagar (actors who played the young Geeta and Babita) need a special mention. They made us laugh, cry and root for them. Such acting at that age leaves you in awe.
The casting, the songs, the BGM are all to the T. The transition of aamir to the older Mahavir Singh Phogat is so underplayed that you only realize it only after walking out of the cinema hall. He put on so much weight for that and there isnt even a scene highlighting that. Fatima & Sanya even dominate Aamir in some scenes and he lets them. No amount of praise is enough for Sakshi Tanwar as Daya Kaur. She emotes beautifully with her eyes and underplays the mother role so well.
Of course there is the sports clichés (even the national anthem is played and you are confused if you should stand or just sit and admire Aamir Khan) and director Nitish Tiwary keeps you hooked till the end, in spite of the audience very well knowing what would happen. The choreopgraphy of the fights was so realistic (except for the last round in the last fight). You don’t need a VR to feel that some scenes are happening right in front of you, the movie is that good. There were two scenes in the movie that left me teary eyed and hardly a word was spoken. The acting is that good.
Dangal has its clichés and cinematic moments, but it is definitely worth a watch. Brilliant movie overall. I just sat in my seat for the movie to sink in for a few moments as the credits rolled.
