It's a fairly interesting thing being into Aristasia/Madrianiasm both for the research *and* the belief angle. Digging deeper and deeper obviously shows quite dark things I didn't know about, to the point I feel like it's "bad" to keep looking if I want to be an earnest Madrian/Filianist, and I do feel some guilt.
But I also realize that this isn't exclusive to just this faith, and many others have to contend with such things (Besides, as I've said before, it's not like hermeticism has great rep at all). It's a complex situation, really
I'd also say I'm pretty "pretentious", which adds to it, haha. I think I'm making a big deal out of things that aren't that big because I'm both so new to filianic faith and also generally young as an individual. Leads me to too much overthinking

Edgar Degas - At the Milliners (1881)
Re-listening to the ‘Weird Reads with Emily Louise’ livestream on Aristasia and I just cannot get over how conspiracy-minded she and the guest host is? The idea of Miss Martindale working for anyone but herself, or of the established far right propping up such a bizarre and bumbling group as the Aristasians is laughable to me. I feel you can acknowledge the fascist connections and the obvious racism of the Aristasians without conjuring up some grand conspiracy about them.
I very much agree. I just don't think the Aristasians had political power, to be honest. At least, not in the way she seems to put it in the stream or how other cults are known to have had in history (and to this day). While they were in the proximity of people that had importance, Aristasia as a whole feels like too much of a self indulgent pet project of Martindale and Landridge than anything with definitive ideological goals.
They wanted to create their own pockets of relevance more than they wanted proper control over the material world, which they saw as a lost cause. There's enough cases of them holding a "Pfff, Pit politics? That's silly!" stance in a public facing manner to make me think so, at least.
Especially shows in how separated and insular everything became as time went by - If they had grand machinations, they probably would have taken a much more expansion-oriented approach than they did.
So many members who joined in later eras basically report to not even being aware of the ideological components at play because it was hidden.
Another night in which I must cling to Dea in my heart. I hope she shares compassion for a maid like me.

Want to buy some illusions? Slightly used, just like new. Such romantic illusions, and they're all about you. I sell them all for a penny, they make pretty souvenirs. Take my lovely illusions, some for laughs, some for tears. | Marlene Dietrich as Erika von Schluetow in A Foreign Affair (1948)
