fixations change, though! Â so here are some things you'll encounter all year round, in alphabetical order:
â»Â sâhâoâwâsâ ·â 1670, Andor, Austen adaptations (esp. 1995's P&P) + many other period pieces (esp. North & South), Black Sails, Bob's Burgers, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Derry Girls, Slow Horses, Star Trek, Ted Lasso, The Office (US), UNHhhh, and other shows featuring my favourite people, as well as the occasional British/Irish panel/competition shows (e. g. Taskmaster).
â»Â fâiâlâmâsâ ·â Austen adaptations (esp. 2005's P&P) + many other period pieces, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, and loads of someÂtimes obscure films featuring my favourite actors.
â» Â pâeâoâpâlâeâ ·â Adam Driver, Bertie Carvel, Carey Mulligan, Carrie Coon, Cate Blanchett, Emma D'Arcy, Florence Pugh, Jack Lowden, Jack O'Connell, Jessica Chastain, Jinkx Monsoon, Kate Winslet, Kristen Stewart, Lupita Nyong'o, Mads Mikkelsen, Oscar Isaac, Rachel Weisz, Ryan Gosling, Saoirse Ronan, Shawn Hatosy, Tom Hardy, Trixie + Katya, Viola Davis, âŠ
â» Â tâoâpâiâcâsâ ·â feminism, intersectionality, neurodivergence, and queerness in shows and films; werewolves; a lot of untagged memes + shitposts; someÂtimes stuff about astrology + myers-briggs for shits and giggles; Austen, BrontĂ«, Tolkien; stuff about writing (and not writing).
â»Â gâeânârâeâsâ ·â dark comedies, fantasy, folk horror, historical dramas, magical realism, mysteries, period pieces (a lot of 'em!), sci-fi, and in general stories written and directed by or respectfully centered around women, queer folks, and/or people of colour (including non-english stories).
and if you're still curious, here are some things i dislike. while i don't make a habit of going on about them here, i might share a critical post or meme now and then:
â pâeâoâpâlâeâ ·â Tr*mp etc, J.âK. Rowling, Gaius Julius Caesar (yes, i'm still holding a grudge), Quentin Tarantino, Taylor Swift, most pop stars tbh.
â gâeânârâeâsâ ·â body horror (except were-creatures!), mafia, blatant military propaganda (esp. American), musicals, slasher/splatter (anything with excessive gore), trash reality tv (e.g. Love Island, Love is Blind, Too Hot to Handle, Next Top Model, etc).
â  tâoâpâiâcâsâ ·â artifiial 'intelligence', pop music, a lot of stuff made by Disney, Marvel, AppleTV, Amazon/Prime, Netflix, etc (and yes, i obviously do enjoy some of their stuff, i'm just very critical of their practices), vampires (Sinners is different, though!).
â  pâaâsât  fâaâvâoâuârâiâtâeâsâ ·â Game of Thrones (finally stopped after Sansa's wedding night in S5; tbh, we all should've stopped after S1â). Peaky Blinders (after Grace's death). Sherlock (grew up + realised it's actually not that good/clever). Stranger Things (that final season was such a mess, it ruined the rest of it in hindsight). Supernatural (story got so repetitive and just absurd + i grew up). The 100 (after Lexa's deathâŠ). The Book of Boba Fett (let's be honest, the show wasn't good, and i was just horny for some old dude wearing a damn bucket on his head). The Mandalorian (got a bit boring, might get back into it once the movie's out?). The Umbrella Academy (final season was unwatchable!!). The Walking Dead (after Glenn's death; couldn't stand Negan; also stopped enjoying the genre in general). Vikings (after Ragnar's death; his sons were so annoying + not interesting at all).
Happy pride month specifically to folks on the asexual and aromantic spectrum who oftentimes feel isolated and left out of the conversation. You belong here as much as the rest of us and I hope that you are all loved in a way that is comforting to you.
s1 pope cody really was in a league of his own just unmedicated compulsions, canine behaviour, unflinching eye contact, a fuck-ass haircut, and a (maladaptive) dream
I will say this. Yall (fandom and media critics) will literally watch shows about terrible white people like Hannibal, Succession, White Lotus etc., and find it in your heart of hearts to empathise and psychoanalyse them. But god forbid yall do the same the moment a Black or Brown character is messy, rude, unlikeable, indecisive, or dare I say, problematic, becos yall will calling for their heads.
