Bwa dancer, Burkina-Faso, by Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher
The Era of Inconsistency (the historical period marked by conflicting reports) is bookended by several figures, which appeared in at least one of the three incompatible sagas of the Hero of Time and alongside his involvement in the War of Eras. One of the more enigmatic is the Dead-Eyed God, also known as the Breaker of Cycles, the god of the new moon, the Fierce Deity, and Termina. Like the hero it is associated with, several aspects, including age, vary between reports. One thing remains constant however, all accounts agree it was a terrifying being to encounter.

Skull of a rough-toothed dolphin (Steno bredanensis), believed to date to 1850, it has been scrimshawed with ink by sailors aboard a ship. Besides a diamond pattern, there are different types of trees and two ships.
