THE ISRAELI PARLIAMENT PASSES A LAW TO EXECUTE PALESTINIAN PRISONERS
The bill, which passed its second and third readings in the Israeli Knesset today, has now moved to the implementation phase following its approval.
The legislation was introduced by Itamar Ben-Gvir, an Israeli minister who was convicted in 2007 of racist incitement against Arabs and of supporting Kach, a group designated as a terrorist organisation by both Israel, Japan and Canada and formerly by the United States and the European Union.
The bill introduces mandatory death by hanging, with no possibility of pardon, to be carried out within 90 days of sentencing.
It applies exclusively to cases tried in military courts, which have a 96% conviction rate, and does not apply to Israeli citizens.
More than 100 Palestinian detainees have already died in Israeli custody since October 2023.
Dozens are still missing.
Over 9,300 Palestinians sit in Israeli detention right now, including 350 children.
Hundreds could face execution under this law, leaving their families to endure unimaginable horror.
Will this death penalty law, which blatantly violates the EU's values and legal commitments, finally force the EU to make yet another statement of concern?
