Anon: on the off chance you genuinely don’t know how to give constructive criticism and aren’t just a bully hiding behind anonymity—constructive criticism. Constructive meaning helping to build up. You walk up to someone and say “this is bad!” That’s worthless. It makes the person responsible feel bad and makes you look like a jerk. Nothing improves, but maybe the other party quits because you ruined it for them.

Actually constructive criticism isn’t focused on breaking someone down, but pointing out what they could do better.

“Hey, I noticed you’re a friendly, open-minded player, you’re clearly dedicated to portraying this character and you’re quite skilled on a technical level, but I noticed your character’s voice sounds (x), they’re more (y) in canon, why is that? Did they develop to be that way over the course of your playing them or was this unintentional?”

Another example:

“Your ship with (x) is cute, their interactions are endearing, but what happened to their canon love interests? Is this an AU or did they move past this? When?”

^^^This applies more in games where everything is solidly built up and it isn’t one off, AU/multiverse stuff.

“Hey, I always liked (z), but I noticed you’ve been portraying (z) a very negatively lately, they’ve alwas been kind of sulky in canon, but they also had a good sense of humour, it was pretty corr to their character! Is this intentional? Did something happen to them recently that changed this? Or was it accidental?”

This way, you soften the blow, establish you have their best interest at heart, and show them WHERE the error lies and even shine a light on how to fix it if you’re familiar!

I don't mean it to offend. I just don't think you capture her voice well.

Well, I will say I’ve been writing Rin for three years now (like… how even) and I haven’t done a reread of the manga since then so it is possible I have fallen comfortable and contempt and therefore I haven’t developed her fully.

But seriously, give me your opinion on what I’m doing wrong. I won’t be able to take anything from your useless if not verging on hateful comments otherwise.
