Who's picking on Skinny Gerard?
Fat Gerard Way was inside of a combination Taco Bell-Pizza Hut with his sister Telma, ordering something with meat, cheese and strips of crunchy tortilla inside of a soft crust. The young woman in front of them, who had bone straight brown hair and a neon pink North Face jacket, tucked an errant corner of her yoga pant leg into her brown Ugg boot. Telma sneered. They got their food and sat in a booth with purple seats and a blue table. "They should just give in and call those Ugg-ly boots. I don't know why so many girls buy the things, they look like Yeti feet. And they're expensive for no goddamned reason." Fat Gerard Way nodded and took a bite of his cheesy meat thing. He personally tried to avoid using his words for scorn, but he didn't discourage the habit in his sister. He felt that the practice was much healthier than the self-loathing he'd experienced at her age. His heart soared then plummeted into an immeasurable depth when he looked at a machine that sold holographic stickers and temporary tattoos. The walls fell away and he suddenly found himself on a vast, snowy tundra. Wind and snow blew all around, but Telma continued to eat her chicken quesadilla with indifference. At a distance that seemed indescribably screwy, Fat Gerard Way made out a human figure shivering in the snow. He got up and started to walk toward the figure. As he got closer, he realized that the figure was the girl with the pink jacket and Ugg-ly boots that had been in front of them in line, and that she was roughly three times his size. She was crying. "What's wrong?" he called out between cupped hands. She rubbed the back of her hand across her nose. "I lost my keys," she said, "And I turned into a weird monster, so even if I found them I wouldn't fit into my car!" "Maybe I can help you find them," Fat Gerard Way offered. "It's no use," she said, "I've been wandering for days looking for them in the villages around here, but I get chased away by mobs of people holding things from their garages." "Maybe you're meant for better things than keys now!" Fat Gerard Way called out. "You really think so?" she sniffled. "Yeah!" Fat Gerard Way said, giving the girl two super-charged thumbs up, "What's your name?" "Hannah Beth," the girl said with a small smile. The two of them walked for a few hours and reached a forest that had much more pleasant weather. At the center of the forest was a huge hole in the ground. In the hole, people and some interesting looking creatures struggled with primitive tools to build structures out of large, colorful blocks. Hannah Beth picked Fat Gerard Way up by lifting him under his arms like one would a baby and carefully entered the hole. They approached the workers. One of the humans smiled and waved. "Greetings," the human said. "What are you guys doing," Fat Gerard Way asked. "Well," the other human said, "This used to be a lake but one day, the water just up and disappeared. Many of the lake's inhabitants died, but some of them underwent a sort of hyper-evolution and were able to develop air breathing lungs and pedal locomotion. My organization tries to provide aid to mystery stricken regions, but we couldn't raise enough money for anything but the most rudimentary tools." Fat Gerard Way grinned up at Hannah Beth. "I think my friend might be able to help you." "I seems so," the other human said, looking Hannah Beth up and down with approval, "Would you like to help us, honorably large creature?" "Sure," Hannah Beth said with her shy smile. "Great!" the other human said and began straight way to explain their building plans. Hannah Beth tentatively picked up a red block and put it on top of the blue one. All of the humans and evolved lake creatures cheered. Fat Gerard Way folded his arms and started to walk backwards toward his sister and his meat and cheese thing in the snow, nodding with satisfaction the whole way. He found himself back in the combination Pizza Hut-Taco Bell. He swallowed a very mush mouthful of the meat and cheese thing. "Were you having one of your visions?" Telma asked eagerly. "Yes," Fat Gerard Way said with a sigh, "Did I do anything weird?" "Not really," said Telma, "You were just chewing that same bite for, like, twenty minutes. "Oh," said Fat Gerard Way in a puff of voice like a disintegrating cloud. "What did you see?" Telma asked. "I'll tell you later," Fat Gerard Way said and took another bite of his cheesy meat thing. He was wrapped in a psychic silence that he didn't want to disturb.
