FYI: Honey Ramka presents 'Dither_Block', a project space exhibition by Mitch Patrick. Opens Friday, March 29th (6-9 PM) — on view thru April 20th. Dither_Block features recent drawings and videos by the artist. As written by Patrick:
These drawings are attempts at laying somewhere between noise and information. As screens becomes more engorged with the world in an attempt to utterly describe it, reality becomes fair game as a digitally distributive asset. Perceptions are increasingly peeping in and out of screens and cameras, giving and taking away. Drawing — and particularly its innate ability to generate noise, compared against the ordering of information on the digital grid — reminds us that physicality is resistant to digital order. Pixels are a raw form of visual information, exceptional at exhibiting images and communicating information instantaneously at high resolution, while drawing and writing might offer the complete opposite: slow information that is highly subject to entropy. Drawing is a low-level microcosm with an ability to turn noise into information and vice-a-versa.
This exhibition also includes two seamlessly looping, screen-based 3d animations that display various types of electronic debris and speculative artifacts that societies might uncover in the distant future. Intending to be a philosophical and creative exploration on technologies, electronic waste, and prospective cultures, these videos are intended to be set in a post-Anthropocene world. Each video is unique, styled in a way that excavated archaeological objects are documented for research.
Accompanying this exhibition in the main gallery is 'Going Forward', an exhibition by Jason Reyen.
