MESSIER 104- The Sombrero galaxy
Hi guys!
Today we will be looking at The Sombrero galaxy
This image is composed by both NASAโs Spitzer and the Hubble space telescopes.
The Sombrero galaxy is one of the most popular sights in the universe!
Itโs name comes from the fact that the brim of the galaxy makes a shape of a Mexican hat :)
Here are some cool little facts about this galaxy:
-it is located approximately 28 million light years away:(
-There is a black hole a billion times more massive than our sun in the center of this galaxy
-It is located in the constellation Virgo
-It is notable for its large population of globular clusters
Globular clusters: massive, tightly packed groups of thousands to millions of stars (held together by a strong gravity), shaping them into almost symmetrical balls.
MESSIER 82- The Cigar galaxy
Hey everyone!
Today we will be taking a look at this beautiful galaxy, Messier 82 (also known as The Cigar galaxy)
Lets go straight to the facts about this spiral galaxy:
- It is 12 MILLION light years away
-It is located in the Ursa Major constellation
-Around the galaxyโs centre, stars are being born at a rate 10 times larger than that of our ENTIRE milky way galaxy.
-It is known as a โStarburst Galaxyโ, this means that the galaxy is undergoing an exceptionally high rate of star formations.
-It was discovered in 1774
-It is best observed in April (GO LOOK)
Feel free to comment recommendations on what space bodies/theories youโd like to see next:)
Planet- EARTH
Hi guys!
This is going to be a bit different from my usual posts.
What we see here is earth.
Our home.
We are all on this planet together. A beautiful, survivable planet. It is our job to treat it like our home.
With everything going on recently i wanted to remind people of the consequences of our actions. Whether those actions are littering, harming animals, or harming nature in general.
Why would we treat our own home that way?
We as humans have a responsibility to keep our home safe, survivable, and thriving.
Unfortunately, the way we treat earth is not the only contributing issue to the risk of this not being our home anymore.
How we treat EACH OTHER is an important thing to be aware of.
During these last months, we have seen a spike in racism and sexism. Now, i have two simple questions
Do you think earth would be survivable for ALL races for no reason?
Do you think earth would be survivable for ALL genders for no reason?
No matter what gender, race, sexuality, religion, identity, or looks a person has, they deserve to live freely on this planet we call home.
The people in control of OUR home have not been executing this idea, bringing us closer and closer to an unjust home.
Letโs all set good examples for each other, and as learnt in kindergarten, โtreat others the way you want to be treatedโ.
โInjustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhereโ -MLK jr.
ARP 273- โThe roseโ Galaxy
Hi everyone!
Once again we have another beautiful galaxy captured by the Hubble space telescope.
Here are some facts about this rose shaped galaxy:
- Arp 273 is a pair of interacting galaxies
-It is 300 MILLION LIGHT YEARS away (so far from us๐)
-It is located in the constellation Andromeda
-The rose like shape comes from the fact that it is tidally distorted due to the gravitational pull of a galaxy below it ( The UGC 1813)
(Feel free to leave recommendations of what i should post about next! It can be ANYTHING space related:))
MESSIER 95
Messier 95 is a galaxy 33,000,000 LIGHT YEARS away. (I have fomo rn i wish i could see it)
Here are some facts about this cool spiral galaxy:
It is known for its high star birth rate (so cool)
It is located in the constellation Leo
It spans approximately 70,000โ80,000 light-years in diameter
It is a part of the M96 Galaxy group
Best viewing time with a telescope is April!! go check it out
Discovered in 1781
