“I am seriously waning with my creativity when it comes to doing infinity tattoos.” While Samara would never say no to doing them, because she had no moral objection to the symbol, it was getting a little tiring. She could practically do them without looking now. She liked to thin of herself as an artist, and the little symbol took very little creativity. But— she kept doing them, because people chose it for a reason, and it obviously meant something to them if they were willing to get it permanently inked on their skin. But yeah, it was getting rather tiresome for the shifter to keep doing them.

“What about the dreamcatchers, feathers, and anchor tatts?” Something about the trends of the particular demographic tickled Faye. What was even funnier was the irony behind the concept of tattoos over all. Something that was permanent for humans couldn’t even penetrate her skin for longer than a few breaths. “Honestly, I’ll pay for you to do whatever design you want on me if you do henna or jagua inks. They’re the only thing that really works for me, sadly.”

Castor’s nostrils were flared, his lungs at full capacity of her scent. It gave him an intense adrenaline rush, all of the memories they shared flooding back to him, most of them looking rather a lot like the scene they were performing in the alleyway at that moment. The sight of her bared teeth only made his threatening grin wider, the danger of it all part of the reason he enjoyed this so much. Each could be each other’s end if they truly wanted; they could tear out each other’s hearts, and perhaps one day they would. But not now, no. Not when he was having this much fun.

The force of her chop against his neck followed by her swift movement to gain the upper hand elicited a loud groan from him, a thundering pain shooting through his head as it hit the wall that would be nowhere near enough to stop him. He looked back at her over his shoulder from the way his face was pressed into the bricks, the coy smile still prevalent on his lips, behind which he could taste his own blood. “Other people been try’na kill you too, now?” He grunted, voice strained from the position he was in. “I ought’a be jealous.”

His teasing tone was followed by one single breath before he moved again, kicking back his leg to crash into her shin before using the small window he had to slip from her grip and throw her off of him, slamming her against the other side of the alley. He stood across from her, a mere metre or so, his stance defensive as he allowed her to recover for a moment. “C’mon Faye, show me how much you really missed me.” A devious smile on his face welcomed a new attack, his hands gesturing for her to come back for more.

The entirety of her head rang upon the second impact. It surrounded her like a halo sized too small. The slight disorientation had her seeing two of Castor, something like an angel or devil. He was both and neither to her. She felt it in the moment in between. Sometimes it was in the flash of his eyes when she took too long to get back up. Other times it was in his touch just before he released a grip if she stopped responding. He took after his kind. At his core, he possessed a warmth that could melt through even the toughest steel.

But like his kind, he was still touched by mortality and that was why as he looked at her with a vague fondness, she only reciprocated with sadness.

She tried not to think about that too much. This was supposed to be fun and quick. Maybe some time apart did them good and resetted their “relationship” back to zero. She grabbed the whole trash bin within reach and threw it at him. It didn’t hit. (They never do.) But it bought her a second which was enough for her to run up to him. Her arm hooked around his throat and her momentum propelled her jump to where she wrapped her legs around his torso.

“Have you been hoping that I’d think about you?” Without the laugh that came after, it might’ve sounded harsher than she intended. She was attached to his back with her arm still tightening around his neck.

“Oh, and don’t be jealous.” she leaned forward to say by his ear, “You’re still the only one I want to hurt.”

“I never knew that before.” Ashling admitted. It seemed so weird that people wouldn’t want a black cat. Nano was super cute, and Ash was already smitten with him. A silly stereotype meaning sweet animals were stuck in the shelter when it really wasn’t their fault. “He’s not going anywhere ever again. And it’s Nano. Because his toes were so little…” A little chuckle, shrug falling from her shoulders. She couldn’t say it was a good name, but it was what she’d picked.

Faye’s sense of humor was ticked at the name conception story. “There’s something about a cat’s paws that really get me too. I think I named one Jellybean for the same reason.” Outliving a pet didn’t feel as unnatural. Not in the same way outliving all your friends and family did. “Is he your first?”

“okay, okay. i know it’s totally stereotypical for a witch to have a black cat, but just listen, alright. i saw him on the shelter’s facebook page. someone family adopted him two weeks before halloween, then dumped him back there three days after. like…they just wanted him as a spooky halloween prop or something. how awful is that? meanwhile, he thought he had a home. the poor little dude. so yeah, i went and adopted him. his name is nano now. and he ain’t going anywhere ever again. ——-want to see pictures?” because she has many. oh so many. ashling hadn’t even had him two weeks, and her phone was pretty much filled with photos of him.

faye leaned in close to them since curiosity got the better of her. it was like how the saying goes, curiosity killed the— well, maybe it wasn’t the most appropriate time to say that.

“stereotypical or not, i think it’s a good thing,” she said. “black cats make up most of the animal shelter than other types of cats because of the superstition. people are assholes and i hope that family doesn’t repopulate. it’s good that bano found a new family in you.”

when:friday, nov 13th

— Leon had seen her on his way out of his therapist’s office a few times, but they had never exchanged words before other than hello, good morning/afternoon/evening, so he wasn’t expecting today to be any different. He had returned to work that week, so he moved his appointment back to Friday, which was his free day in Uni. Leon thought about spending some time in Oakheart, smoke some, drink some coffee and then return to Astoria and, well… he did smoke some, only enough to relax a bit ever having relived some dark memories involving Althea in his session. He had bought himself a coffee to go and was going back to the spot he had parked his car, close to his therapist’s office, distracted by his phone when he accidentally bumped shoulders with someone and ended up dropping his cup of coffee.

While apologizing for his own mess, Leon looked up, recognizing the same person from the office and chuckled softly. “Oh… we meet again. I didn’t get any on you, did I? I could pay for your dry cleaning if I did.”

When the drops landed on her, she expected it to feel like the sunrays leaving teeth marks her skin. It turned cold before the color bled into the threads of her loose shirt. A minor nuisance at most, but insignificant all the same. “No, it’s fine.” She left it at that, neither confirming or denying his question. It was a simple confirmation that she couldn’t care enough about it to burden him.

“I’d say we should stop running into each other like this but it’s a bit on the nose now. Are you okay? —Just in general.”

It could be said that Faye was to thank for Cas’ safe departure to Nova Pangaea, even if it took him far longer to be accepted into the country than her. His original plan was to flee with her, to follow her into the dark and find safe haven together, even if the pair couldn’t entirely be trusted in each other’s company. He had often wondered if they would be the death of each other, despite the way they seemed to protect each other as much as spat with one another, but that possibility seemed to be reduced to zero after they had been split up upon his rejection for entry into the country. The day he said goodbye to her he had truly believed that it would be.

So naturally he was taken aback when, mere days after his arrival in Astoria, her familiar scent hit his nose. He didn’t believe it at first, it must have been some curse or trick, but it was only after he hunted it down and found it to truly be her that he could process the idea of seeing her again. He followed her for a few days, stalking behind her like a demon in the shadows, watching the way she lived her new life — the one that she had started without him.

Once he had a better understanding of her routine and where she would be at what time of day, he waited in an alleyway not far from her home until her scent was close enough to taste. As she walked past the opening of the alley, he reached out to grab her and immediately had her pinned up against the wall, forearm up to her throat as he wedged one of his legs between hers to keep her there, his body weight doing the rest of the work to press her up against the cold bricks. “Thought you’d got rid of me for good, huh?” He growled, his eyes glinting with both excitement and anger, as they often did when he was anywhere near the vampire. The way he licked his lips with a smirk indicated that the games had already begun between them.

One could say they left on a bad note. Most would say Faye was a dick for being the one who left. She didn’t think too much of it since she left enough space between them that a few decades could fit in between. Catching his scent again recently whipped her right back to the day he told her his request for entry was denied. That night stood still, begging for action, much like this night as well. She took the first move to leave last time, and now it was his turn.

He knocked the hiss straight from her lungs. The impact sent a shock through her system and she bared her teeth. After the surprise subsided, and it fell off quickly, her lips curled up around her sharp canines. She groaned—nothing obscene, but something with a slight lilt to play with his mind anyway.

“Took you long enough.” The words squeezed between the tight clench of her teeth, but she remained smiling nonetheless. His skin still felt warm against hers. In that split moment where the pain lasted, she felt her mortality vibrating in her bones again. As she usually does around him, she continued to invite it.

With a quick strike, she brought the side of her hand down to the carotid sinus in his neck. She took the opportunity to grapple him and pin him to the wall, this time face first into the walls. “Hmm,” she hummed by his ear. “Now that I think about it. How am I supposed to tell whether you’re really him or a shapeshifter?” The one thing she hated more than letting a random bastard get a hit on her is one that makes a fool of her.

There were small moments, less so more recently, when Bash found himself alone without seeking out the company of those that kept his harsher thoughts at bay. Atlas would have laughed and come along, citing that only Bash would seek out the pier to be alone at when so many others came there to be with another. It was quiet and close to the ocean, enough so that he could taste it in the air without having to traverse the sand that would track everywhere back home.

Dog would object to being left behind, but he was currently in the hands of Carly while she rested up from the previous full moon’s attack while the small duck wasn’t about to go to the brewery on it’s own. It was an urge that he couldn’t fully explain, or question, when it often led him moving from place to place without keeping too many roots. Only a few times over the years had he found himself in the same location for too long, but Astoria was supposed to be his fresh start with a chance to start over.

If only he could figure out a way to get to that place as he kept his hands in his pockets and moved slower than normal as not to bring any attention to himself from anyone hanging around the pier. Though as he moved towards a spot that he found himself plenty of times alone, there was already a still figure there - one missing a heartbeat, but with a certain familiarity to them. A familiarity that he only needed to see once to know that they would never be forgotten as he slowed to a stop, short of where they were currently at.

The presence of this stranger made her head scream—

but it didn’t tell her to run. She looked upon his face, expecting something to jump out and speak to her. His pupils wore haunting halos that gave her that feeling again. That type of deja vu that bore teeth and ate at her peace of mind.

The silence between them swelled and crashed with the waves nearby. With any other situation, Faye would’ve given up hopes on being able to place this face, and this energy. With this, she couldn’t look away; she couldn’t stop trying to beckon the call of the mystery before her.

“You don’t mind if we share the space, right?” She had no intentions of moving out of the way for any reason. Despite her drive to be difficult, something inside her wanted to challenge this person, that whatever he wanted, she was to present roadblocks.

Her eyes continued to stay on him, watching him stop in his tracks. Just that action alone brought a furrow to her brows. She had met people she didn’t like upon first impression but none so strong as this.

Raine swung back the bottle, shook their head and ordered another one. It was their fourth by now, but they barely felt the light buzz alcohol usually had on them. Instead they wondered at what they they should be doing, at whether they should be going home or try to get a joint somewhere. But they were too lazy to move, sitting on their usual stole and just having at it, not caring about anything else. It was good to just have this something. The new bottle was delivered and they reached out to grab it when another hand reached for the same thing, but being quicker than them, snatched it away. They cocked an eyebrow at the individual, slightly annoyed as they waited for it to become clear that that was theirs. “’cuse me.”

“Yeah?” Faye snorted.

She took her time taking in the scent of the drink. The sweetcorn off flavor characteristic of pale lagers was unmistakable. The trace of irony already filled her mouth and was felt around her teeth from the smell alone. Her mind ran off with the image of blood draining straight down her throat— even though she knew the grains that made this drink was just improperly stored in poor quality metal.

Without hesitation, she drank from the bottle, tilting her head back and accentuating the slender lines of her neck. The droplets from her lips were caught with the back of her hand. “Were you going to say anything else?” She asked.

She grinned a sugar coated smile before licking her lips happily to get rid of the sweet crusting that adorned her mouth, the napkins were accepted with a polite “cue!” and she wiped her face, rather aggressively, before tossing them into the bag on her shoulder to join her discarded uniform. At the womans next words, Rowan laughed and shrugged a shoulder with a dismissive motion “I’m real bad at rememberin’ names myself so it’s no drama. I’m Rowan!” she sucked the excess sugar off her fingers before reaching into her bag to wipe them on the napkins she’d just tossed in there, she had a vague suspicion that the apron took the brunt of the saliva absorption though, before offering the now clean-ish hand for the other to shake.

Rowan’s energy continued tumbling forward. Faye swallowed hard, considering how much sociability she had left in her before this interaction drained it dry. But fuck it. She had nothing planned for the rest of the day anyway. She took the girl’s hand—Luckily, it was dry, but Faye’s nose still picked up the traces of sugar and saliva all at once. She tried to mask the tightness around her smile.

“Faye,” she returned. “I still consider myself new here. What do you usually do in your down time around here?” She could make due with the same three locations she visited in rotation, but there had to be more to this “Haven.” A tour guide was needed and maybe this Lady Bubbly could help her.

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. The days creep slowly along until the end of time.

The wind brought the scent of the salt in the water to her. It mixed in with the sunscreen from all of the visitors playing by the shoreline. From where she sat, she could parse out their laughter from the pier music and other performances. She would’ve visited this spot sooner had she known about it. It stirred a type of nostalgia in her that she couldn’t place.

The sun’s light bleeds across the sky. Two years passed and she still checked her hands for any blistering despite the artifact her sponsor gave her. The feeling lived under her skin, a nasty parasite that stayed burrowed and thrived off her blood. There weren’t many differences between her and the punishment. Although the phantom burn wasn’t quite the same as it usually felt. The sensation crept up all the way into her mind, like a frequency so high that it simply just buzzes.

All she could focus on was how it wasn’t painful—no, this did not hurt. It didn’t feel menacing, no. ( But she felt scared. ) She encountered traces of something like this prior, but she always called it the “Culture Shock” of moving to a new location. This was the loudest its presence had been and it made her longing for home almost tangible. It wasn’t long before she could sense that she wasn’t alone at the edge of this pier.

‘What do they want?’ ‘They want something from me.’ ‘What’s the catch?’ ‘Maybe I didn’t hear them right.’

She brought her lips back together to form a slight smile. “Thank you again. That was very nice of you.”
