Been a little while again, and things have been pretty darn busy for me, but for those of you who are interested I ran my first game of this Fear and Hunger PBTA thing on wednesday for a group of friends, and it has helped immensely in developing the game, or at least the gameplay aspect of things. When I have the rules more cohesive I'll post them in full so you can see what I'm working with and so you can try them for yourself.
Basically, I kept the whole idea of 2d6 being the only rolls you make, besides coin flips for that Fear & Hunger pizazz, in terms of stats I really just changed it to Melee, Guns, Magic, Defence and Speed. Stats go up to a max of 3, and you add your stat number to the roll to determine what you're doing. Classes have a total of 4 point in stats spread out depending on what they are, so for instance Ex-Soldier starts with a 3 in guns, and a 1 in speed. Since there is no level system for characters I decided to make soul stones the currency for improving stats, once you get one, or enough shards, you can choose to improve a stat, or gain a skill as per the base game, meaning they have more varied use and you have to think a little harder about what you want.
For character creation, as you can see in the picture I have a big word document of the character intros from the game, most of which I have made little edits to here and there, as well as the new classes being my own work. I took each player out individually and had a 1-on-1 with them, read out the story and let them make their choices, which I then wrote down for them, that seemed to go down well.
In terms of inventory I just have a google doc with everything they own in it, with comments tied to each item with its description and effects, everyone has access to this, of course.
My main hurdles at the moment are the hunger system, and how to really work with that, as well as balancing combat a little more effectively.
