Family matters — Denis&Dane
Martin Richman was a man who undoubtedly lived up to his name. Always carrying himself with confidence and class, the man was never short of clever things to say, the suit being the one key element of his wardrobe completing his look of an important business man. His son Dane looked much like a joke next to him— especially when in the same room. The boy was hunched over, a grey hoodie covering the mess of his unstyled hair, the expression on his tired face making it clear just how much he hated being there. He was supposed to put on a suit for the fancy family dinner, but he simply couldn’t be bothered. “I’ll wait for you in the car.” The boy mumbled after his dad tried to strike up a conversation with him for the thousand and first time, earning nothing but a cold shrug. It might’ve been wrong to reject his dad like that, but frankly, Dane couldn’t bring himself to care. What goes around, comes around. Grabbing his headphones and making his way out of the apartment, Dane sat in the back seat of his dad’s luxurious car, pulling out his phone to text the boy who was supposed to meet them at the restaurant. ‘Be there in 20 minutes. Hope youre ready’
It wasn’t that he was scared of Denis meeting his dad, not at all. He didn’t fear him having to sit through a dinner with his aunt either, though that surely should be taking up at least a fraction of his mind. Oh no, the thing that really worried the boy was Denis getting to know Dane. Dane as in Dane before he moved to Seattle, before… Well. Before. And the well. No one could predict what would go down at the dinner, yet the boy’s mind did it’s best to go through every possible scenario out there. Every bad scenario, at least. It goes without saying the bad thoughts made tears spring to the boy’s tired eyes, making him laugh out loud to how pathetic he was being. Good thing he was alone in the car.
By the time his aunt and dad joined him in the car and made their way to the restaurant, almost forty minutes had passed. The atmosphere in the car was tense, nerve-wrecking almost, yet something made Dane think things were only about to get worse. ‘Almost there. Sorry in advance.’ he texted as the car entered the last intersection before the restaurant, the unease he felt only starting to rise. It didn’t take long for the car to finally stop, making the boy bit his lower lip. “Please be nice to Denis tonight. I swear I’m walking out of the restaurant if you make me deal with that too.” He turned to his aunt just before getting out of the car, already able to spot his boyfriend on the other side of the street.

and once again, denis found himself in a sticky situation. leaving his boyfriend to deal with his family alone felt like an awful thing to do, but getting in a middle of a family family dinner was as bad as the first, if not worse. however with a promise made and not wanting to disappoint dane, denis stood in front of a fancy looking restaurant, in an actual full suit, once again. fidgeting and biting at his nails, not actions expected from a man standing with a four thousand dollar custom italian made suit in front of an expensive restaurant. having arrived at least twenty minutes early, the boy couldn't help but scratch at his hands, a trait he had gained throughout the years, which was later exchanged to smoking, but with a need to make a good impression, denis didn't want to light one up, in case dane's father had been against it. with a confirming message that the family were soon to be there, a heavy breath left denis, eyes tracing around the street in search for a car that could belong to them, until he spotted his boyfriend climbing out of one on the other side of the street. a grin almost instantly growing on his face, denis didn't refuse to check the man out, who even with the odd attire ( which made denis feel even worse, feeling overdressed or afraid dane would feel so ), managed to look amazing. however his eyes falling on the man following him, denis was instantly reminded of his father. not only the attire, but the stance, the highly raised chin --- screaming confidence, completely unlike his son. family approaching the boy, his face was adorned with a straight back and his best fake smile.
