Emma laughed softly and nodded. “I’m thinking show tunes and screamo.”
“That was one time!” He said, voice ringing with indignation. “No one else needs to know that I happened to really enjoy the fact that Shannon left her Wicked CD in my car.”

Emma laughed softly and nodded. “I’m thinking show tunes and screamo.”
“That was one time!” He said, voice ringing with indignation. “No one else needs to know that I happened to really enjoy the fact that Shannon left her Wicked CD in my car.”
“My brother didn’t let me leave the house for about three years so….”
“Wow. And here was I thinking I was overprotective. Three years puts me to shame. But then again I did get- Y’know what, nevermind. It doesn’t matter.”
Emma dropped her pencil on the ground. “Oh no! I think im dying!” She dramatically fell back on the bench. “Blech… im dead.”
“Okay. Quit with the over-dramatics.” He said, laughing as he hoisted her back up. “Here I was thinking I’d let you control the stereo. Now I’m not sure if you’re ready for that responsibility again.”
“Everything was so much simpler when it was just you and me.”
“I guess that sounds fair. Thank you.”
“It’s no problem. I just don’t need you working yourself to death. I like you too much for that.”
“Oh well… oops.” Lana grinned and looked over at the boy. “It can’t be that bad.”
“Well you’re half right there. It could have been a lot worse.”
“Didn’t mean what? That me being stubborn now is basically the same as what happened before? Connor, you know I couldn’t help that.”
“I know. I know that, Shanny. But it’s not like y- You just get so set on everything.”
“You can pretend all you want, but I still made you blush.”
“There’s just some things that I don’t need or want to hear. That happened to be one of them.”
“Fine, Fine.” She laughed, putting her stuff in her backpack. “Okay, Let’s go then.”
“Knew you’d come around. And tell you what. I’ll even quiz you on this when we get back. Sound fair?”
“But that’s thirty minutes that could be spent studying.”
“Technically it’s a lot longer than that. Because it’s like 30 minutes there, 30 back plus mindless hanging out time. But that’s beside the point. Point is, nothing’s going to sink in if you keep overloading yourself.”
“It’s glamorized nostalgia that doesn’t account for anything that was actually going wrong in that time period. Yeah… well… it’s not great for you so…”
“I’m not- Fine Shannon. You hate it.” He realized he’d crossed a line when he heard her tone change. “Shit, Shan. I- You know I didn’t mean that right.”
“Like I said, try explaining that to my brother.”
“True. Sometimes we go a little overboard when our sisters are involved.”
“Have you met my brother? He’d have you killed before you could even explain yourself.”
“Hey! I’m not the one that’s hitting on you. All I’m saying is you can’t blame a guy for trying.”
“I said it and I’ll say it again Connor. I hate Forrest Gump and I don’t understand why everyone thinks it’s so great.”
“Because it’s a classic Shannon. It balances comedy and tragedy. This is like that time you told me pizza was pretty much the worst food ever.”
“We’ll just pretend I said hi and that’s it.”
“I was thinking about pretending I didn’t hear anything at all. But hi sounds like a better option here. So... hi!”
Emma shut the book that was currently in her hands. “Where do you think it is?”
“I’m thinking it’s about half an hours drive away from here. Not sure where that’ll be exactly but what say we find out?”
“I’m just now realizing how bad that sounded… I didn’t mean it at all.”
"I know you didn’t mean it, but where am I even meant to go from there?”
