FRIENDS CONSIDER, IF YOU WILL, BEYONCE AS EMMA FROST
By Stephanie Hans
One of my favorite Emma moments, from Mark Millar’s Civil War.

How badass does Emma look here? I'm actually super-excited for this.

Marvel’s two greatest divas.
Reblogging half for the panel half for the comment.
I dressed up as Emma Frost from X-Men for Oz Comic-con. Stan Lee actually came!!
I am not one for usually reblogging cosplay, but holy shit this is amazeballs.
Can We Talk About Astonishing X-Men #43?
I picked this issue up when it first came out based entirely on the fact that it was a one-shot issue involving Emma and Danger. I hadn't read a single issue of Astonishing since Whedon left the title and I actually think that they did themselves a disservice by not renaming the book. Nobody would have been able to live up to Whedon's run which was, to put it simply, one of the best runs on a comic ever.
Back on topic. This one-shot issue details the journey of Emma and Danger, breaking into the Secret Avengers heli-carrier and following a computer signal that Danger tracked. The signal of another sentient being, not unlike herself. We have an appearance from our old friend Beast, who, if you remember, was a member of the Astonishing team when Emma was on it and under Whedon's and Morrison's pens, they became good confidantes and dare I say it, friends?
I went into this issue not really expecting much. Maybe some eye candy T&A which we usually get from Emma and maybe some poorly written one-liners. That's what I usually expect from Emma when I'm not reading something by Morrison, Whedon or Gillen.
I was more than pleasantly surprised. Not only do we get to see the friendship between Emma and Danger expanded upon, we get to see Emma in all her snarky glory. She is written perfectly in this issue under the pen of James Asmus, who is quickly rising in my list of favorite Marvel writers between this singular issue and his great portrayals of Hope in the Uncanny X-Men Annual and issue #511 (or something like that).
Astonishing X-Men #39
HATE HATE HATE Nick Bradshaw's art, like...loathe it with a furious passion and I tend to avoid stuff that he works on, but my gosh, this arc was actually pretty decent. The banter between Emma and Wolverine was pretty much spot on, which I really enjoyed. The banter between the two of them is actually probably what I miss most about having the X-Men all in one place. They were never afraid to call each other on their bullshit, but when push came to shove, they'd support each other.

What character development would you like to see from Emma in the future? Love you ;)
I can't actually definitively answer this. There are so many things that I'd like to see happen for Emma - mainly continuing to take no shit from anybody. It's more things that I DON'T want to see her do than I do.
I do not want to see her become Cyke's simpering 'wife' again, much like she was under Fraction's pen
I don't want to see her giving up her own ideals for anybody else. She knows what she wants and she knows how to get it
I don't want to see a rivalry of the romantic nature between her and Jean when (we all know it's going to happen sooner or later) Jean comes back. It's disrespectful to all characters involved.
I don't want to see her end up as a Phoenix wielder. There are already enough comparisons between her and Jean and frankly, the Phoenix sucks. It's a Deus Ex Machina plot device. The only time I've ever liked the Phoenix is when Rachel had an echo of it from Korvus's mighty sword...
What I would like to see is Emma's ingenuity and propensity for creating psychic-related gadgets brought back. She built an amazing Cerebra FFS, I'd love to see that skill set acknowledged again.
Which comic book run or runs made you an Emma Frost fan? Or was maybe the WATX cartoon?
It was the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon, actually. Funnily enough, that's the show that pushed me into buying comics for the first time, after being a fan of X-Men: Evolution and an ENORMOUS fan of Justice League and JLU. So it's needless to say that I was kind of biased in favor of Emma from the start.
When I started reading comics, it was Uncanny X-Men and I started with the trades all the way back in Austen's run (I didn't realize how atrocious it was until later). One of the first trades that I bought was Phoenix: Endsong and it cemented my love of Emma and dislike from Jean. At this point, I've read almost all of Emma's appearances save for Gen X and have been a steadfast X-Men fan for my entire comic reading career (all like...three years of it lol)
Kitty: I’ll hold her down, you carve us off some earrings.
I NEVER thought that I'd say this...but Jason Aaron actually writes a REALLY good Emma Frost.
