she does wish that the court was far more interesting, than theyโd allowed themselves to be. theyโd curtsy, and bow, and sheโd done nothing for the evening, but keep her gaze focused along the curve of weaving bodies. one after the other, where sheโd slip in their heads- it was so easy, those who were utterly weak minded, perhaps not even realizing that she were there. a woman, that stood a bore with her husband, whoโs gaze was pointed to a man cross the courtside, a cupbearer, no less! if one was to have an affair, why be daft enough to have it bring nothing to you, other than the courtship of a bastard son? stupid woman. potential wasted.ย the husband, just as awful, which brings into her taunt of dread, love- they said. married before the churches, and their one true god. pathetic. she might as well have a bit of fun with them, shall she not? sheโs slipping into the husband subconscious, toying with the strings of jealousy, and mending them to her own doing. he bumps into the cupbearer, spilling wine on the countess, and verdandi nearly smirks, beneath the goblet in her hand.ย
itโs not until sheโs being ambushed by an oaf- a royal one, at that, does her gaze flicker upwards. she need be careful, how one reacts in a setting full of siblings and children of the king. and while he was the lesser of two evils, she does not suspect heโd forge mercy for her at the gallows, should he know the fate sheโd hope for his brother.ย โyour highness.โ but before she can respond, heโs already assuming an apology. and she has to smile- because verdandi, had never genuinely apologized to any man, let alone beast or being, forth her entire life. tongue corners against the inside of her cheek, and sheโll force down the smirk, aligning it with a doe eyed smile instead.ย โin turn, i should perhaps accept your apology then?โ an arched brow, as her tone gives away that sheโs teasing him.ย โthough, thou has yet to truly make one yet.โ sheโd play her cards correctly, with respect still tinged between her voice, and with the upper hand- heโd known nothing about her, and yet- sheโd known nearly everything, about him.ย
he knows how the court behaves, behind their sweet smiles and curtsies, everyone here had a secret deep enough to be beheaded but he keeps those ludicrous comments to himself, no one would ever suspect thatย nicolaos dragola would ever say such disrespectful things about the people and his own court and yet no one ever really got to see past the medallion and the tittle that he held, no one cared to find out more. so he did as he always did &. gave people his facade that they thought they knew oh so well. he watches as the brunette before him, envelopes herself in her satin of confidence &. her words cause the usual boyish grin ( one that he had once upon a time ) taint his features.ย
his posture is clean and elegant, brims pressed together as he looks at her &. her next set of words cause the grin on his lips to expand.ย โ oh, please do forgive me mโlady. how foolish of me. โ he adds on and reaches for her hand and places a chaste kiss on it, surely something that he did many times before but this time , it surely had a double meaning to it. one that he would keep under wraps , for now.ย โ well, since clearly it was my fault ------ how about i offer you a drink &. a walk on the outskirts, have you seen the west garden, itโs surely one of my favorite places.ย โ he added as he extends his hand out to herย โ shall we ? โ
