Sacrilegious Knowledge
A shadow of surprise flickers unto her face as she eyes the approaching stranger but it soon alters itself into a friendly smile. It’s not Sunday today, that’s the usual time for strangers to appear and call her sister out of the blue. Being called sister had been rare nowadays, since most of the people staying in the church have accustomed to calling her Erika -something she actually prefers because she’s not just going to be anybody’s ‘sister’. But that doesn’t mean she won’t respond to it.
"Hello," she nods in acknowledgement, moving to stand more upright, arms in front of her lax and carefree. The question she feels is rhetorical, since it’s almost evident with her garb that she does indeed live at the church. She smiles gently. "Yes I do, I’m a nun here." Then she tilts her head, putting on an air of curiosity, folding her arms while doing so. "Is there something you need? Guidance? A meeting with the Father?"
Sora stopped in front of the large building that stood out harshly against the blue sky background. Her eyes wander over the architecture, taking in the facets and turrets and unique design. It was more beautiful than many things she had seen growing up, and quite different. However, she did not come to ogle at a architecture. Her eyes eventually traveled down to settle on the pretty face of the nun standing before her.
"A nun," Sora repeated almost absent-mindedly. She knew this was how they were called, the general term to refer to women who had chosen this profession, but she had never encountered one before. "Can you teach me about the church then?" She asked, pausing before she added, "I mean, the faith. Can you explain the Christian faith to me?"
{` he shakes his head, before pausing and continuing the gesture} Not really, I mean kinda technically I suppose. I found I could do something just before someone came to tell me about the school. But up until then I didn’t think I was anything other than ordinary…no, even less than that. See I only found out when I got a new heart {` he taps at his chest} I just happened to get the heart of a mutant and that was how I learnt. In fact I never would have found out at all if it wasn’t for that. {` he holds up his fingers} That was four years ago now…well over that. {` drops his hands and looks down at her clothes} I think they would. I mean it’d be changing something pretty significant…aren’t people always saying for time travel that you must never change anything?
(/nods her head slowly until her head stops moving in surprise) A new heart? (/she whispers, her eyes flickering to his chest) Is that possible now? (/her eyes fixate on his chest curiously, wondering how it was possible. Wondering what sort of effect that would have on the person as a whole) Did the new heart give you a mutation? (/she asked quietly, her eyes trailing back up to his face, sparkling with a new found curiosity) Is that so? Oh dear is it possible I am changing things at this very moment?
the devil's cup ;
“i’m sorry to interrupt you, but could i browse through these shelves, please?”
Sora had grown accustomed to quiet weekends on campus when most people went home to visit their families to just left to get away in general. At first, she was envious of these people who had homes to visit so frequently and weekends to spend with people who wanted to be around them. But as she settled in at school and found herself a job of sorts with which she could peacefully fill her time, she stopped feeling jealous. The simple task of sorting and shelving books, keeping the library tidying, and being able to read in her down time was enough for Sora. Her weeks were normally so hectic that she had grown to truly appreciate the peace of her weekends.
Gently sliding a few books back into their destinations, Sora paused for a few moments before replacing each book to read the front and back covers and occasionally jot down a few titles that seemed to appeal to her. This work absorbed her, taking great care to correctly place back each book perfectly and to treat them with the kindness she believed they deserved. Sora hardly noticed when another student, one who wasn’t working alongside her, walked in. She didn’t notice when he wandered in her aisle.
She jumped slightly at the soft pressure he applied to her shoulder, turning around to face him. She smiled broadly before stepping out of the way. “My sincere apologies I did not see you there.” She said softly, careful to keep her voice appropriately low. “May I inquire as to which book you were looking for?” she asked, her own curiosity unable to be stifled.
Sora liked to know which books other students were checking out and reading. It was like getting an indirect recommendation for books she had not yet read. There were so many books in this age that sorting through which ones were worth her time proved a difficult feat. She liked to get second opinions as much as possible.
The Illusion of Unfortunate Memories
“you — you okay there?”
Immersed in her literature world, Sora hardly notices the sounds of her surroundings. Not even the sound of a woman shouting through a phone not too far from her. It was nearly silent causing the sound to carry and normally, Sora would have noticed it. But, not today. She didn’t notice when he replied, or when he ended the call and she definitely didn’t notice when her approached her. At the sound of his unidentifiable voice, she jumped, spinning around.
Tears streaks stained her face as her eyes looked up at him for a moment before his question registered in her mind. She shook her head a bit to clear it and wiped her face. She forced a smile to her face as she stuck her bookmark in her book and closed it. “It is just a sad story,” she told him softly, smiling up at him.
She glanced down at the book in her hand and then back at him. “I can’t imagine living the life these people had to go through,” She whispered, making it clear that she couldn’t distinguish between the idea of fiction and nonfiction. “Have you ever read it?” she asked kindly, gesturing to the space beside her in case he would like to sit.
“loose rap—” ♕
{` her smile doesn’t ease the beginnings of unease building in him. no—jaebum only stares at the young woman’s expression with a stricken heart, pursed lips and furrowing brows that persists as he looks around for somewhere to sit. his entire body aches, the beginnings of both fear and irritation settling in with the protective crossing of his arms over his chest. he hopes to shield himself from the chill settling in to stay, while his eyes remain fixed on the stranger who’d watched that scene with him, and had somehow managed to smile when jaebum himself is swallowing bile. he’s angry. it’s evident—beneath the fear—in the trembling of his fingertips and the whitening of his knuckles as he curls them into fists. his heart pounds. } i can’t do this. i can’t. what the hell is wrong with this place?
(/her smile falters before falling off her face, realizing that it did nothing to liken him to her. She wondered if the look that had come over his face was meant for her to express some sort of emotion over what they had just witnessed though. She didn't move closer to him, as she normally would have to speak at a lower volume, thinking he wouldn't take kindly to it) I wish I could tell you (/she whispers, just loud enough for him to hear, her eyes trailing away from him and to the blood on the ground not far away) All I know is that it needs to end.
Of Princes and Stalkers `Sora&Minho
"Just so you know, you suck at spying on people."
Just as she had thought, he proved to be a very interesting subject. And apparently, he was rather popular too. She overheard more than just a few girls talking about how handsome he was. And fortunately for Sora, one of them had mentioned his name. “Choi Minho- the princely figure” She titled her notes, speaking aloud as she did so.
Following him around all day was stressful for her though. He was smart she realized, and he had glanced her way a few times. Fortunately for Sora, she was clever and an amazing spy. She was positive he was hardly aware of her presence, let alone that she had been studying him all day. Sora was, without a doubt, completely undetectable.
Or so she thought.
She waited for him around the corner of his dorm building while he changed before following him around the campus, waiting at a specific spot waiting for him to pass her one his laps. She wasn’t about to try and run along with him and write. Instead, one he was finished she followed him to his little area of relaxation and hide behind a tree, slowly climbing the marvel of mother nature.
Suddenly, he spoke. And he was, surely talking to her. Shocked by this, she stumbled a bit, falling out of the tree and landing squarely on her butt, wincing a bit. She looked up at him and sighed. “I thought you hadn’t seen me…” She whispered. “When did you notice me?”
- - riddle me this !
It didn’t take him all too long to connect himself to the hologram, and as he moved his own limbs to see whether or not the hologram responded to his own movements he kept most of his attention on Sora, waiting for eventual questions.
She returned his smile, feeling alleviated by the action. Sora was struggling to adjust to the life of having to show more respect to others than they did to her and often feared she would make a mistake and offend someone. She was so used to people having to show deference to her. It was reassuring to know her manners were sufficient.
“It was good thank you for asking how was yours?” She asked, rambling off a bit before realizing that he might have said it just to be polite and not because he actually cared. Sora quickly shut her mouth and looked down, simply awaiting further instruction.
His next phrase was not what she was expecting him to say. She was anticipating some sort of theoretical teaching before they jumped into practical experience. Her head flew up and her jaw hinged open slightly in a mixture of utter shock and abject horror. She stammered to find words, but found herself coming up with nothing to say. Who was she to refuse?
“Are you sure that is a good idea?” She blurted out she moment he finished speaking, before abruptly shutting her mouth. She stayed in silence for a few moments, intending not to pester him with questions but so many were blowing up inside of her she thought she might explode.
“Will I be fighting you directly? How are we getting started? I am not allowed to use my mutation correct? Or should I try to? I am not very adept at using it yet so it may not be a great idea if I do! But then again I cannot fight using hand to hand combat yet soo… which am I supposed to use? Or is that a dumb question? It’s a close combat class of course I use hand to hand combat of course, correct?” She said this all rather quickly, as if trying to say as much as possible in as short as possible period of time.
After spewing all these questions at him, Sora felt that maybe she should just be quiet and watch him, but even what he was doing was too interesting to stop herself. “What are you doing?” She asked, looking at all things he was attaching to himself. “What does that do? What are those? Do I have to attach those things to myself as well? Will it hurt me?" Then, a second image of him appear beside him. Her jaw dropped once more, this time in utter curiosity. She moved towards it silently, putting her hand out to touch it without thinking what would happen if she could feel it. But her hand went right through.
"What is this?"
A Saint's Modern Medicine `Sora&Saint
“Can you tell me what’s wrong?”
Sora hadn’t even realized her friend had left saying something about class. In fact, she had barely realized where she was going or that she was going somewhere at all until she was there. Leaning against the door, she focused on her breathing, trying desperately to ignore the excruciating pain she was in. She blinked tears from her eyes before closing them tightly and trying to concentrate on anything but the pain. She wanted so badly to scream, but she thought it would be a bad idea.
She hadn’t expected the door to jerk away from her like that. But, the person on the other side probably didn’t expect her to be leaning all of her body weight on it. She her eyes flew open briefly as she stumbled forward, but quickly closed her eyes again to brace her body for the pain of crashing to the ground. Much to her surprise, strong arms grabbed her, stopping her from falling. For now, she allowed herself to rest in their arms, not thinking about what she was doing.
It wasn’t until he talked that Sora realized she was in the arms of a man. Slowly she opened her eyes to see him looking at her, concerned written across his face. She knew she should try to get out of his arms, but instead she just shook her head to answer his question. Slowly, she tried to steady herself, still feeling the pressure of his assistance on her, and knowing that if he were to pull his hands away she would surely fall. But she thought that making the attempt was important.
She felt him moving her to sit on his bed and looking up at him she realized for the first time that her vision was slightly blurry. Was that a side-effect of death? Sora wondered why her friends had brought her here now and was starting to this it was part of some sort of modern death ritual to say goodbye to those who were sure to die. But, his question didn’t quite make sense with this theory. She squinted at him a bit before sluggishly moving her hand to pull up her opposite sleeve to reveal a bandage wrapping around her upper arm. She fumbled with the bandage numbly for a few moments before successfully removing it. “Someone shot me a few weeks ago,” She whispered in a raspy voice as she showed him the infected wound that was slowly giving her blood poisoning.
{` he shakes his head, telling her that really it isn’t odd} I did the same thing when I first came here. It didn’t really help that the power I thought I was brought here for was actually only a sub-power. It was weird to be able to do strange things suddenly and that everyone else could do it as well. {` he reaches over and pats her shoulder} You’ll get used to it I’m sure, and once you learn how to go back then you might even find some there too! {` he nods along, looking at her seriously} Yeah, once or twice a year in one is enough for me. They take so much to get on and then you can’t even go pee easily. I’m glad you get to see different clothes! {` his brow furrows as he thinks of something} If you went back and introduced different clothes, I wonder how much our reality would alter?
(/she listens in silence, contemplating this sort of reality. What would it be like for her if suddenly she found herself doing something completely new that she wasn’t aware she could do? She thought she might go insane. As it was she was often cautioned against used her mutation without supervision. Apparently something about accidentally hurting others) That must have been really hard. But you knew you were special before you got here? I mean, you knew you have some sort of mutation? When did you find out? (/she pauses to think about this idea) Yes, I suppose it was rather difficult to relieve yourself. You do not realize the inconvenience if that is all you have known though. (/stares at him in surprise) Alter reality? Would bringing these clothes back change other things too?
Weakness `Sora
”What do you do?”
She nodded fervently, setting herself not to stop until the weights fell from her hands out of exhaustion. She would not yield until that point. No matter how much she wanted to because she was already feeling the burn in her muscles. She knew that one day, in the distant future, that it would prove to be in her best interest.
Sora looked down at her arms again briefly before looking up at him and smiling broadly. She thought it would be easier to continue without stopping if she focused on something other than the task at hand. But when she looked at him she realized his face had turned a slightly pinker shade. “Your face is flushed! Are you ill? Shall I take you to the nurse?” she asked, suddenly feeling concerned for his wellbeing. In her experience those who got sick, died.
However, as she looked at him slowly the color faded and she relaxed a bit, realizing rather foolishly that he had been blushing. She thought now, in retrospect, that it was stupid of her to assume he was suddenly overcome by a sickness. That would have made so little sense. But her preoccupation with her own stupidity didn’t stop her from noticing the terse way he smiled at her, as if she had said something wrong. “Should I have not complimented your mutation?” She blurted out in concern, “I only meant that I find it impressive,” She almost didn’t hear his question she was so concerned with his possible anger with her. She blinked a few times before sighing and looking down. “I can manipulate space-time.” She said lamely, feeling shy about talking about it. She had so little understanding of how it worked and what she could do that she was often embarrassed to talk about it at all.
- - riddle me this !
"Come in!"
Sora was, in very way imaginable, a pathetic fighter. Her mutation was, in all honesty, one of great potential. But, being nothing but a beginner, she was not all that great at using it. Moreover, it had its limitations. And when she reached those limitations, she wanted to be able to still defend herself. For this reason, she enrolled herself in close combat. She was worried however, that the new teacher would get easily frustrated with her lack of ability.
Nervously heading towards his office, Sora kept rereading the section on hand to hand combat in the book she had checked out of the library and her own personal notes on what she had observed by watching others practicing. Some people would say it was useless, but Sora thought it was better than going in with zero base knowledge.
Reaching the door of her instructor, she knocked her knuckle against the wooden door and waited for the signal to come in. When his voice reached her, she slowly pushed open the door and slid into the room. She smiled at her professor shyly before hurriedly shoving her books away, in case he scolded her from trying to learn from books like others had.
She bowed to him quickly, having temporarily forgotten that he was older and she was no longer the person of greater respect. “Hello songsaengnim.” She said, straightening up. “I am Park Sora.”
A Saint's Modern Medicine `Sora&Saint
It may have been against the rules, but sometimes Sora simply couldn’t help herself. And maybe it didn’t help that she was used to being able to get her way all the time. She was, after all, a princess. No one said no to the crown princess. And the destruction of the war torn streets of Sora begged for her to explore. She wanted to find those she might be able to help, if it was only to comfort them out of this world. It was a silly wish, but Sora had learned to love her subjects. And she would, until her dying day, consider every Korean citizen her subject and she would love them all. She hated seeing war ravage her country and to lay ruin to so many innocent lives.
