Hana left her desk and hurried into the closet supply closet she could find near the bullpen. She felt the tears ready to burst out at any moment and she didn't want anyone to see her in that state.
"Is something up?" She scoffed and leaned against the door of the supply room. "I don't know, didn't you have a job to do last night?" Hana tried to keep her voice down, but. the more Gavin avoided to answer, the more she felt like punching a wall. Or his face if ever she saw him anytime soon.

Hana's heart skipped a beat. Dinner. With Gavin. Tonight.
It took everything for her to not break into a smile, but couldn't help the corner of her lips from lifting a little. "Alright. Tonight it is." She tried to appear nonchalant when she was the exact opposite inside.
The detective scoffed as Gavin refuted her claim. "Have you looked at yourself in the mirror?" Hana raised an eyebrow. "It's written drama queen on your forehead!" She continued to tease him.
"Now, go whine somewhere else, I have work to do." She tried to shoo him away from her desk again. She needed to think about what she could possible make for Gavin and her tonight and mentally prepare herself to have the detective over.

Hana had to fight the smile growing on her lips as Gavin admitted going on a date wouldn't be a problem. She simply hummed and nodded, not trusting any words that could come out of her mouth right now with her mind running a thousand miles per hour.
"Well," Hana leaned back in her chair because she couldn't trust herself not acting up if she stayed close to Gavin. "You can come over tonight if you want. I can cook or we order something. Your choice since I owe it to you." The detective tried to act as nonchalant as possible. She had told Gavin she cared about him and she didn't want him to die. That was almost confessing she was in love with him for Hana; nothing she could say now could make her feel embarrassed anymore. Back to teasing the poor Detective Reed.
Hana scoffed at his comment. "We both know the drama queen here is you." Hana rolled her eyes.

Hana surprised herself being disappointed when Gavin didn't chase after her. She would have expected him to not let her get away with it. So when she turned and saw that Gavin had disappeared, a weight settled on her chest. She had no idea why she was feeling like this. Get a grip, Hana!
Her heart skipped a beat when she heard her last name being called out by Gavin. A wave of relief and happiness overcame her as the detective came in her line of sight. She could faintly smell the lingering smell of cigarette on him and it brought a small smile to her lips. So that's where he had been gone to.
Hana was brought back to reality when she heard him say the word "date". Oh yeah, she had kinda insinuated that, uh? Now that she was a bit more calm, she felt back to her old self.
"Oh, I never said it was one. So you want it to be a date?" She teased him, leaning on her desk and propping her chin in her hand.
"So you went out to get some courage to ask me on a date?" She poked him playfully on the chest. Turning to teasing was the only way for Hana to not fall into her emotions again and start babbling nonsense.

Hana felt like she pushed her luck. How stupid of her to think it would turn out just like she had thought it would. She scoffed and looked away.
"I'm trying to make it up to you as you insisted. Just forget it. I'll buy you coffee tomorrow morning." Hana walked past Gavin to go back to her desk. She felt humiliated. "No, it's not a date!" She called out over her shoulder.
Hana felt so dumb to have believe even one second she could open up to Gavin like this. It was Gavin Reed, after all. She was mad at herself for believing otherwise for a second.
The detective sat down at her desk angrily and focused on her work. She was mad at Gavin and herself and she just wanted the day to be over already -- even if she had been to work for only a hour.

If Hana had less self control, she was 100% sure her knees would have given up at the mention of dinner with Gavin. She had to stop herself from checking her own pulse because she thought her heart had stop beating for real now.
Hana rocked on her heels, faking to think about what else they could be doing to make it up to Gavin. Her mind raced with thoughts of what she would wear if they actually went out for dinner, where would they go? A fancy restaurant? Something casual? Take out maybe and he comes over to her place? Oh god, having Gavin over to her place? being in the same room... alone... no one to see them interacting...
"Dinner sounds good, sure, why not?" Her mouth moved faster than her brain, it was too late, the words were out. Going out would mean risking to have coworkers seeing them together, would Hana like that? Would Gavin care? He would definitely care; going out in the open world was an absolute no.
"You can come over to my place, I doubt your landlord would like to see me anytime soon. We can either order take out or I can cook something?" She didn't mean to make it sound like a question, but Hana couldn't believe the words she had just said. Did she just invite Gavin Reed over to her place for a... date?

Hana hummed as she tried to remember what Gavin's landlord told her. She had been a little bit hysteric, she must admit, so it was a bit of a blur in her mind.
"I don't think he said anything much. I was pretty convincing." Hana smiled again as flashes of the words she said to the landlord came back to mind. Gavin would definitely kill her if he knew everything she had said to the poor man managing the building.
Hana couldn't help but laugh at Gavin's words. It was better than becoming a blushing mess and babbling non-sense.
"Alright, maybe I do owe you something." She crossed her arms on her chest. "But there will be conditions. Not my fault you don't know how to charge a cellphone." She playfully punched his shoulder.
There was always something so comfortable about Hana. Now that the previous ordeal was mostly out of the way, and the air cleared, Gavin felt like he could just enjoy the time with her, instead of feeling like he wasn't supposed to or wasn't allowed to.
"So you actually made the poor guy check on my apartment to see if I was there?" He hadn't really believed it before- that Hana had gone that far but well, the more she kept talking about the night before and her panic this morning- Gavin knew she could be just as stubborn as he was if she wanted.
As she agreed, a sweet sort of smiles stretched out on Gavin's face. His face might have been a little warm but he just hoped to god it didn't show. "Name your conditions-"
"Hey! Not my fault. Tina has a different phone than I do so her charger didn't work for mine."
Hana waved Gavin off; she didn't care about any excuses anymore now that she knew he was alright. she just liked to tease him.
"My conditions are pretty simple: nothing that will make me do overtime or add to my workload." She pointed a finger at him as if she was scolding a kid. "Nothing that requires me to spend too much money either like paying for a dinner or something... I ain't taking you on a date or something because you can't bother to charge your phone." The more Hana talked, the more she realized her conditions didn't allow much playroom.
"Or I can buy you food or something, I don't know." The detective scratched her cheek nervously. "Nothing too expensive tho." She started to feel a bit awkward as it felt like she was almost asking him they do go out somewhere together. Thinking about going on a date with Gavin made the blush rush to her cheeks and she shook her head vigorously.
"Anyway, let me know." Hana wanted to be done with this conversation as she felt she was only making her case worst the more she talked.

Hana scoffed at him but was unable to hide the smile curling her lips at Gavin's comments. She felt so much lighter, but she still had this nagging fear at the back of her head that she would make everything awkward now.
She opened the door and felt like she could breathe again. "Oh by the way..." Hana turned towards Gavin. "I'm sorry if your landlord bothers you about me calling him last night." She smiled innocently. "Next time, charge your damn phone!" She said before hurrying back to her desk to avoid the detective reaction.
Hana might have looked through Gavin's personal file to find where he lived and did her own investigation to find his landlord's number to check on Gavin's apartment last night.
Hana's smile was sweet- was a thought that Gavin tried to push to the back of his mind. Maybe something he'd consider later where it came from or he'd simply ignore it for the rest of his life. That would be determined later.
"Wait what?" Gavin's hands dropped to his side as his eyes watched Hana walk back to her own desk. He almost chased after her to figure out what the hell she'd down- but the busy bustle around the bullpen made him much more aware of his surroundings.
He calmly walked back towards his own desk, only taking a small side step to lean against hers for another moment. "If I get in shit from my landlord because of you. I think you should need to make it up to me." He didn't quite make eye contact, just a quick glance before he resumed watching all the other commotion around them.
"Not my fault you care."
Hana elbowed Gavin softly in the ribs to get him to move away from her. Telling him she cared a lot about him was enough emotions for her today, she didn’t want him to see his proximity was also making her act up.
“I just called him a few times…” She kept her voice low. “Might have threatened him to break down your door if he didn’t go look at your place to make sure you weren’t there and just ignoring me.” Hana sais nonchalantly as if it was a normal thing to do.
Hana stoped near the desks at the bullpen, quickly looking around to see if no one was looking at them.
“Making it up to you?” Hana smiled and tilted her head to the side. “I said I cared about you, not that I was in love with you.” She scoffed and looked away. Hana was a good liar, but she doubted she could keep her composure in front of Gavin if she looked at him after saying those words out loud.

Hana closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. She didn't want to explain what she was feeling for Gavin, because honestly? She had no idea what she was feeling actually. Was it only because she cared about him as a coworker? As a friend? Hana didn't have friends, she didn't know how it felt like but something inside of her told her that's the closest her relationship with Gavin was; a friendship.
It was useless to escape the conversation. Hana had to rip-off the bandaid and hope for the best. It took her a few seconds to accept she would be okay with Gavin laughing at her and making for of her for the rest of her life. There goes nothing.
Hana looked up at Gavin, grounding herself and feeling ready as if she was about to confront a thug in the street.
"Because you are the closest thing to a friend to me. And last night, the simple thought of you dying got me spiralling like I've never did before." There. It was said. No turning back.
"It's okay if you don't feel the same. I don't care really." She tried to laugh it off. "Now I'm really gonna ask you to move out of my way because I can't stay here one minute more." Hana's tone become more stern and she went past Gavin to grab the door's handle.
Gavin had absolutely zero words. Which was fairly uncommon for him since the man didn't know how to shut up sometimes. He was pretty good at digging himself into a deeper hole. He knew he was insensitive and quite often hostile which usually drove people away from him or actually wanted him dead.
She was important to him. Gavin knew that he liked having Hana around. He wasn't trying to ruin anything now but well, once his brain finally caught up to what he was hearing? Oh it would be hard to stop his mouth from running.
Instead of doing as she asks, he leaned his entire bodyweight against the door. Gavin knew about his own stubbornness, at this rate Hana really should too. "Would you actually listen to me instead of being so determined that I'm going to laugh at you or some stupid shit?"
"Maybe I'll try a little harder to y'know... not fucking die." Gavin shrugged. He was bad at expressing himself through words. What was he supposed to say? Outright verbalize that she was important to him? No way. That would be stupid. "But you have to do the same." It was the best he could do.
Hana was about to snap back at Gavin when she registered his words in her mind. She looked at him, trying to see if he would start laughing or make fun of her. But it didn't happen. She realized how close she was to the detective, her hand gripping the handle of the door. She should have taken a step back but she felt like if she let go of the handle, her knees would give up under her and she'd crumble to the floor.
I'll try a little harder to y'know... not fucking die. Hana's heart skipped a beat and she prayed she wasn't blushing.
"G-Good." Is all Hana could manage to say. "I-I appreciate, I guess." She looked away, clearing her throat. "I'll do the same. Anyway, there's no way I'd die... I still wanna get promoted before you." She followed with what she hoped sounded like her usual sassy tone she liked to use to tease him.
"If you don't have any other questions... Can I go back to my desk now?" Hana asked, slowly turning the doorknob.

Hana was expecting every reaction from Gavin, but never would she have expected for him to react calmly like he just did. It took Hana aback slightly and she was very aware of his hand on her shoulder and very disturbed by the skip of her heart when he touched her.
She slapped his hand away but immediately regretted it. Now wasn't the time to act like a bitch, Gavin seemed open to whatever was wrong with her since last night. She could take advantage of it and finally speak up about all her worries and fears, the whole wheel of emotions she went through in the span of a few hours.
Hana would never want to be vulnerable in front of someone. Especially not in front of Gavin. But that squeeze on her shoulder only made her realize that he was there. In front of her and alive. She had worried for nothing and she was so, so relieved.
"I-" She had to look away if she wanted to say her sentence without bursting into tears. Hana hated how her lack of sleep made her more sensitive and act like a crybaby.
"I was very worried when you didn't answer your phone and I heard people had been hurt during the bust last night." The detective impressed herself at how stable her voice had been despite having tears filling up her eyes. "I was scared it was you. Because... Because I was-" She crossed her arms again. "Because I care about you."
Gavin pulled his hand back down to his side after she pushed him away. After a moment he pulled his arms back across his chest and closed himself off again.
He wasn't sure what he expected from Hana really. But for her to instead say she cared about him? Taken aback was one word for it but honestly it didn't feel like a strong enough word. His jaw fell a little slack as he stared at her for a moment.
"You what?" He blinked. Gavin found himself at a loss for words unlike any other experience. She'd caught him extremely off guard. His arms loosened across his chest and his knees relaxed as he pulled away off the door behind him.
Gavin had to take another second. "Did you just say you care about me?" It felt outlandish. Hana had to be lying to him "I definitely need you to repeat that and quit fucking with me." The idea of that seemed ridiculous, why would she push him away and hide her real reason if she actually cared?
Hana felt so stupid. She wished she had never heard about the drug bust, she wished she had never tried to call him repeatedly all night and wished she had never shown even an ounce of emotions to Gavin.
"Yeah, go ahead, make fun of me!" Hana took a step towards Gavin. "How stupid of me to care about someone, uh?!" She scoffed and ran a hand through her hair. She felt like the walls of the supply closet was closing in on her and she hated the feeling of being trapped. There was no turning back now.
"You might be the biggest asshole of the precinct, but I still like when you're around." The words were spilling out of her mouth faster than her brain could comprehend was exactly she was saying. Which meant Hana would definitely regret it later.
"So yeah! I care about you and I was scared I had to go identify your body at the morgue this morning. Are you happy now? Do you need me to spell it out for you? Do you need a written email on top of that?" Getting upset was the only way for Hana to not crumble into an uncontrollable sobbing mess at the moment.
"Now that I finally answered your questions and embarrassed myself more than I ever did in my entire life, I have work to do. Move, Reed." Hana tried to push him off from the door way.

Hana felt cornered and she knew Gavin would stay all day if she didn't tell him. "Sorry I was worried." She mumbled and leaned back in her chair with crossed arms. She felt the tears she was fighting back all morning coming back, threatening to fall at any second.
"Sorry, I was worried sick because there were 3 casualties last night and I- I thought you-" She turned her head away from Gavin quickly, feeling a tear escape on her cheek and she aggressively wiped it off.
"Now leave me the fuck alone, we have work to do." Hana leaned forward her desk and tried to push Gavin off with one hand while the other was trying to grab whatever case file she had on her desk to appear busy.
Gavin wasn't stupid, and he certainly didn't miss the way that Hana turned away from him. The only real question was why. Nothing that Gavin could conceive in his head made sense for why Hana would get so overwhelmed or emotional about that. It was just Gavin.
"You thought I..." Gavin tried to finish the sentence in his head. She thought he might have died. Or was hurt at the very least she still seemed worried even after he picked up the phone. There were even more questions now.
Completely self aware he was a pain in the ass, Gavin hopped down off of Hana's desk and instead of walking away and discussing this later, he grabbed Hana by the wrist, "Come on," His voice had softened slightly in a way it normally wouldn't as he started to pull her with him towards the supply closet. He hoped for some privacy that maybe he could get some genuine answers from her.
Hana flinched as Gavin took her wrist but let herself being dragged along. She didn't wanna have that conversation, not that early in the day at least.
Once the door closed behind them, Hana started to feel nervous. Why was she even? She tried to shake off the feeling and crossed her arms as she leaned against a supplies shelf.
"We are wasting our time here, I have nothing to say to you." Hana grumbled, not liking one bit to be cornered by Gavin like that -- or more not liking to have let herself be that cornered like that.
Gavin closed the door and leaned back against it. He crossed his arms tightly over his chest, tugging at the leather from his jacket. Gavin took in a deep breath and looked at Hana across from him.
"Dawkins." He kept his voice level as he started to pose the question, "Why do you care if something happens to me?"
There was a burning feeling across his chest, a need to know what he was missing. He paid close attention to Hana's face, trying to watch her body language too. "Answer the question and stop brushing me off if you're so worried about wasting time."
Hana kept her gaze on the floor and tightened her arms around her. She had no idea why she felt like a little kid being caught doing something bad.
"Sorry I care about my coworkers." She finally got the courage to look at Gavin only to regret it instantly because she felt the tears once again filling up her eyes. She wanted to disappear, she wanted the floor to swallow her up and never stand in front of Gavin ever again. Gosh, this was so embarrassing.
"Now that you got the answer, can I go back to work?" Hana took a step towards the door, hoping Gavin wouldn't press the matter more.
