Upcoming Finals

We are now close to the final examinations of our first summer class in college. In ITMM102, the finals will consist of two parts. The first part will be the finals project and the last part will be the finals written exam. 

The finals project will be a presentation of a mock website. Sir Bob gave us the choice to group ourselves by four. After the grouping, Sir Bob gave us the primary details of the project. We were to create a mock website about any type of services that we want to use. The website must consist of 6 pages. Each page menus and buttons must have an explanation of their function. 

Right now, we are planning for the draft submission  tomorrow. I hope that we will be able to create the mock website that we really want. Good day!

Calm

I’ll make this blog short since I am not in a good mood today. You see, in today’s class with Sir Bob, we had three activities. All of them require us to replicate a logo. 

I took me long enough to get the hang of Adobe Illustrator’s Gradient Tool. It was one of the tools needed for the replica. I admit, I was only able to make 2 replicas. But unfortunately, someone accidentally reset my pc and because of the Deep Freeze application the logos that I replicated was erased. Luckily I was able to pass one but still...

Getting the hang of it

The recent activities in ITMM102 were quite interesting. We have been replicating the logo designs of well-known companies and brands. There were new tools that were used to make these logos. One of those tools was the Mesh Tool in illustrator.

Before the activity started today, Sir Bob taught us how to use the Mesh Tool. It was quite a tricky tool and it needed creativity to manipulate its effect. The Mesh Tool is slightly the same as the Gradient Tool. Although, the difference is that the Mesh Tool effect can be marked on a spot were it begins to change color unlike the Gradient Tool which limits only in mixing colors. After Sir Bob taught us the Mesh tool, we began our activity. He gave us a task to replicate the logo of Google Chrome. Here is my replica:

It’s almost the same though. It just needs a few improvements.

Practicing

Recently, Sir Bob has been emphasizing the importance of pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. He wants us to train ourselves in making designs using the pen tool.

Yesterday, he gave us an activity. We were to replicate the olympics logo. Sir Bob aided us during the activity. He taught us some few tricks in order to do the breaking circles and overlapping. We kept doing it until we were able to do the activity ourselves without his help. Because of the lack of time, Sir Bob made the activity as an assignment. Here is the logo that I made:

It’s not an excellent replica but I can say that I did well.

Having a hard time

Today, as expected, was another group activity in ITMM102. This time it’s working by pairs.

Right after the opening prayer, Sir Bob told us to team-up with a partner. He allowed us to choose our own partners. I teamed-up with a girl named Charity. The goal was to duplicate designs by taking turns on each one. Sir Bob then explained to us the rules. The paired designers are numbered from 1 to 2. The first member will face away from the whiteboard while the second member will memorize the design presented on the white screen. The second member will then dictate the details of the design while the first member will do the design itself within a 5 minute interval. After the time is up, the members will then switch roles for the next design. Here are the duplicates that we made:

I’m still having a hard time working with someone else. I just can’t get what I want. And sometimes, I just don’t trust anyone else. I do hope that this will change in the future. And I do hope that more fruitful days will come in ITMM102. Till the next blog!

Adjusting!

This day was one of the unique days that I experienced in ITMM102. Usually, me and my classmates worked independently and created our own designs through our own skills and techniques in Photoshop and Illustrator. But this time, we created our own designs by group.

Sir Bob gave us the chance to group ourselves with each team consisting of five members. I teamed up with two of my seatmates, and later on two extra members came to complete our group. The first activity was good for 15 minutes. We ranked ourselves from 1 to 5. The rule was to create our own logo design with each member giving a share on the logo. Sir Bob called us by our numbers and each member was given 3 minutes. It was quite fun but at the same time hard since we were not given the chance to plan out our design.

On the second activity, still, we were tasked to create our own logo design with a few rules changed. This time, Sir Bob gave us the chance to plan out own logo design for five minutes. After planning out, Sir Bob, again, called us by our numbers but this time each member was given 1 minute with 3 rounds. It was messed up, mainly because our design did not really go well as planned and that the time interval for each round was too small to even make a good shape or figure on the workspace. But in the end, we all learned our lessons. Sir Bob told us that when we are working in groups, whatever design our teammate gave us to edit or improve, we deal with it even though the design may be better than what you can do or worse.

Right now, I am adjusting to this new approach in our class. I do hope that I will be able to work better with my teammates. Till the next blog!

Getting used to it

Today, we had a quiz regarding the topic yesterday. It was simple. For 5 points, we were asked to compare and contrast raster and vector. The bonus item however was to give an example of a domain name in which I was not able to answer, sadly. After the quiz, we were onto the next activity.

As I stated in my previous blog, the first logo design that I have done in Adobe Illustrator was only made today. I did not worry too much since the deadline was 8:00 am of this day. Right after I submitted the first design, I then proceeded in making my second logo design. Here is my second logo design:

I know it’s not done well but I think it’s good enough already for a second try in making designs using Adobe Illustrator. I hope that I will do better next time. Till the next blog!

End of the 1st Quarter

As always, we ended our class with a midterm exam. There were two parts. The first part was the class midterm exam and the second part was the online midterm exam. I got a good score in the second part while the first part was still unannounced. 

Last Monday, we made our fresh start for the second quarter. On our fresh start, Sir Bob asked us to create two logo designs of our own on a 1 whole sheet of paper as our first long quiz. The first part was simply our own logo design while the second part was a “referenced” logo design. After the long quiz, Sir Bob introduced us to our new lesson. The lesson was about raster and vector. Sir Bob pointed out that raster images are made of a cellular-like structure called pixels while the vector images are made of points, lines, and algebraic shapes. Upon dismissal, Sir Bob gave as an assignment. We were tasked to digitize our first logo design using adobe illustrator.

Finished Early!

Right now everything goes smoothly. I was able to create a good layout design for today’s activity in ITMM102. Although something disturbed me during that time, I was able to finish it early. 

I was early today in my school. There were few of us waiting for the bell to ring. As we checked our computers, we found out that there was no internet connection. Sir Bob used this as an opportunity to train us in creating our own graphics for the layout design using pen tool.

I immediately took this opportunity to test my skills in creating my own graphics. I had complete confidence that time since I was used to activities like this. Here’s my work:

Recovering

Today, in our class with Sir Bob, we were given the task to create a two web layout designs for Zamboanga city without using the vinta. The vinta is the most frequent object used to portray the city of Zamboanga. Sir Bob did not allowed us to use the vinta because he wanted us avoid looking on the surface. He wanted us to think through the core.

What I know about Zamboanga City is its vibrant colors. I used a combination of different colors on the first layout design. And the second however, I minimized the objects and colors of my design. Here they are:

Right now I’m recovering from the recent disaster that I experienced yesterday and hope that I will be able to improve more to avoid repeating the same mistakes again.

Lost it

Right now I can only think of three words. I screwed up. I hate it so much but honestly, what I did today in ITMM102 was trash. I can’t even force myself to post it here. I am really ashamed of myself. I guess I was not that serious. 

Today was the same as yesterday. We created two layout designs. One is for the adzu homepage and the second is for the sitao homepage. I started out slowly. My ideas were fogged up. I can’t decide which is which for my designs. I went on like this until I was only able to pass a draft of the adzu hompage. I was not able to pass the second one because I lacked time.

I think I need a one day break from everything to get myself together after that disaster.

Almost there!

I can feel it already. I’m almost there! I can already taste it! This is what I felt today in Sir Bob’s class. 

Today was a bit different from the other days. Today we were given the task to create two web layout designs advertising a single product. The product must be a brand of computer or laptop. I picked acer since it is the laptop that I own. Same as yesterday, I did not restarted from scratch. I continued on where I started. While we were doing our activity, Sir Bob showed us the 5 chosen works of each past activities. I was really surprised because three of my works were chosen. I just could not believe it! My first work was ranked 3rd while my second work ranked fifth. Lastly my third work ranked 1st. Here they are:

After knowing my works have been chosen I was determined. I never appreciated what I do. But because of that moment, I felt like I can do it! Here are my works for the recent activity:

Unfortunately for my second design I was not able to pass it on time. But I have no worries. I know that I did a good job.

Going well

It was a cold morning in our class with Sir Bob. Our new task was to create a web layout design that promotes a movie using a minimalist’s concept. I think I did a pretty good job this time.

I picked the movie “How to train your Dragon 2″. I did not restarted from scratch this time. I continued my work till the end. Before the activity began, Sir Bob taught us minimalism and showed us a couple of posters with minimalism. It was really interesting to know that some of the biggest movies used minimalism in their posters. After he showed examples of minimalism, we began our work. Here’s my design:

Stuck

Ok. In my earlier post, I said that I will slowly recover my creative thinking as days pass by. But I was wrong. It’s gonna need something more than that. Right now I am stuck and I haven’t improved yet.

Today in our class with Sir Bob, we were given the task to create a home page for any singer that we know. Guess what? I did it again. I created a draft-like  web layout design and then restarted from scratch. It’s because of this style that my time in activities is wasted. Take a look at my web layout design:

Regaining my self

I am so thankful today in ITMM102. Somehow, I am slowly regaining my creative thinking. A few more activities and I’m sure that I will be able to return to my old self. 

Today Sir Bob asked us to create another web layout design that advertises a fruit. We were allowed to pick any fruit to advertise. This time there were no boundaries or limits in using the photoshop. We can use any colors, shapes, or any tools. 

As always, I first make a draft-like design and eventually I restart from scratch. I made a pretty good choice in the colors. Here, take a look at my work:

Strike 2

Oh yes. Another failed layout design today. Honestly, this activity was hard because I am not accustomed in using other color schemes than monochromatic. Worst is that we had to use the Triadic Color scheme, which is one of the hardest color scheme to use.

I was a bit confident that morning, because I believed that I was ready to try designing again. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The moment Sir Bob said that we are only allowed to use the triadic color scheme my jaw dropped. But it was not the best part yet. Sir Bob then said that we are only allowed to use the circle shape. Not just a circle, but a perfect circle shape. Oh goodness. 

It is hard to appreciate your work knowing that you can do better.

Bad Start!

Today in ITMM102, we had our first activity. We were given the task to create a web layout using 3 shapes and 4 tools. Sounds hard right? But actually it was just easy because I had a few experiences already in creating a web layout design, although with no limits that is. 

I remember arriving in school early. Together with other early-birds, we went inside and then one-by-one our classmates arrived. Sir Bob asked as to turn on our computers and then he asked us to open photoshop. I had to change seats because one of my classmates did not have any photoshop in her computer and she asked me to transfer on another computer while she takes my seat. 

Later on, I started out my layout. I used monochromatic color scheme to design my layout. At first I used blue and added a few shapes but then I switched to orange. Finally, about 45 minutes before time, I restarted from scratch. I had to used another design and this time I stuck with blue. Here’s my web layout design:

Yes, I know. This is not the best that I have done. I’m quite ashamed though, because my past few works were actually good. I was not just myself that morning. I’ll try to do it better next time and so I won’t disappoint myself.
