yknow i never noticed the sheer rareness of images having ids or alt text on this website until i started adding alt text to my art (and trying to remember to add it to any images i post in general, especially text screenshots) and that makes me kinda sad
I feel like a lot of people just don't know how to do it or are intimidated by the prospect. I was too, actually, and I couldn't find any good guides on how to do it (beyond basic formatting) and most guides boiled down to "just describe what you see and important details!" I really wanted to add alt text bc accessibility is important to me, but I would always get kinda stumped on how to do it.
But then I saw this image, I think in a discord server, and I immediately started doing it. It kinda broke the ice for me
Most importantly, give context! If the image you’re writing a caption for is a visual gag, a newspaper comic, or a reaction image, the most important thing is explaining the context so that someone who can’t see the image can still understand the joke!
A visually impaired reader won’t get why everyone is using a photo of a cute kitten as a reaction image to a thread if you get too bogged down in describing unimportant visual details in the background that don’t contribute to the joke’s punchline. You have to straightforwardly tell them that the kitten is making an adorably grumpy face. If you leave that detail out, the image loses its intended meaning, leaving the reader who can’t see it feeling totally lost.

hello I've been camping without internet or pencils and then got distracted making character references lol. I have two more of these lined and ready to colour :)
featured character is Isaac (he/they), I don't think tumblr has seen him yet! they're the last of what I refer to as my main six characters. Isaac is Octavia's partner for a period of time, and is sort of a second antagonist. here they reflect on their past actions and choose to move on to a totally new life.

making up for the last couple posts by having way more progress shots than usual for this one lol (that's how it works, right?)
was torn for ages between two compositions but ultimately decided I'd have an easier time drawing a bunch of pine trees than I would drawing a bunch of yet-to-be-designed buildings.
need to work on scale when it comes to trees, I have a tendency to draw them way too small compared to people. but! otherwise quite happy with this, I've come a long way with drawing trees in the last couple years

first sprout fight drawing! let's see how many I can do before May. all original characters for these, exploring situations they might be in at the end of my planned book trilogy, when the snow is finally giving way to spring again after a too-long winter (the rest will be cosier than this, just needed to initially set the scene).
vaguely inspired by Habbart's ranchers apocalypse au for this storytelling style (won't ping since it's not really relevant but I've really been enjoying reading their series).

completely forgot to take any progress shots, my bad. this is what happens when you draw in the evening, you think "I'll take a photo in the morning when the lighting is better" but then forget and keep drawing.
I am very excited for hermitcraft mcc so here are my team yellow designs! mostly a combination of their individual past mcc skins and my own design elements for their characters, usually life series. I had just been going to sketch their designs all next to each other but it turned into an illustration and Cleo wasn't going to fit on the same page, so don't mind the casual two-page situation.
also a quick concept for a version that is moreso based on life series, inspired by the complicated relationships the characters tend to have in life series. not coloured mainly because it felt weird to use anything other than black and red

it's somewhat explained on the page but here is an in-depth explanation of the different design choices and how they are shared between characters:
- Gem: general silhouette based on previous mcc skins and also outfits she has worn to twitch rivals, odd socks is a common feature in her mcc skins, bi shoes as usual, and space buns because space buns
- Cleo: general silhouette based on my Past Life design for them, which in itself is a mix of their base outfit, aerobics outfit, and pride mcc skins. stripey socks as per her main skin, and ponytail because ponytail
- Pearl: general silhouette based specifically on her previous cyan mcc skins, with the skirt taking more inspiration from her empires s1 outfit. paired with black tights and boots because she often wears those at things like twitch rivals and I think the combination with a light flowy skirt is fun
- Scott: overalls because a lot of his mcc skins have overalls and it felt like a good switch-up from the others, and otherwise general colours and features from his main skin
- Gem & Pearl: skirt, bracelets
- Gem & Cleo: short skirt/pants, long-sleeved top
- Gem & Scott: sunflower on their left, sneakers, blue as their secondary colour
- Cleo & Pearl: sunflower on their right, boots & tights, cyan as their secondary colour
- Cleo & Scott: pants, necklace
- Pearl & Scott: long skirt/pants, short-sleeved top
- all: yellow (obviously), stripes somewhere, tiny flowers on pants/socks, bigger flowers on top (bi for Gem, nb for Cleo, Scott's usual coloured stripes from his main skin, and yellow for Pearl)
I have a lot to say on this but I'll keep it brief- I'm not fond of the no-nuance-kneejerk reaction a lot of people on here have to anything that even remotely involves AI. stay with me here. walk with me okay
as someone who is staunchly against a LOT of AI usage, especially as an artist and a scientist, I can at least recognise its potential in a lot of really vital fields! we of course must always be wary and cognizant of the environmental impact many particular uses of AI can have, as well as the impact on peoples' livelihoods/ability to make an income.
but I keep seeing people say "don't use this guys it has AI :/" on my post about a very simple draw-your-own-horse website where a very simple pattern recognition AI is being used to (OPTIONALLY) filter out user submissions that aren't horses. I don't think this is as egregious as the generative AI that is plagiarising works and being used to create non-consensual imagery.
I would love love love for people to use nuance at their own discretion when it comes to the use of AI in daily life. it's starting to appear everywhere. you won't be able to avoid every single usage of it, but you can learn to avoid the worst of it and understand when it is benign or even helpful.

decided to draw my original characters for the last page of my sketchbook! I can't remember the last time I coloured them traditionally, this was fun taking what I've been doing recently in fanart and applying it to some of my older characters.
characters are Fawn (she/her, left) and Natalia (she/they, right) in the first image, Fawn again in the second image, and Victoria (she/her) in the third image.
I was like, omg, nice design... Oh wait is it Alysa Liu styled hair? Is it intentional? (Almost asked, but seen a different post) Omg it is! Fabulous!
So, what if figure skating giggs dnd au, who would be others??? I almost bet, Bro is Yuma (if we talk about currently in sport)?? 🤩🤩
hehe thank you! yeah somehow "Ruby Nyx" and "Alysa Liu" crossed each other in my brain and now I'm very happy with this Ruby design and can't stop drawing her
ooo that's a fun concept, good question! though I must admit I'm a lot less familiar with men figure skaters, ah. I'm interested though in your reasoning for Bro as Yuma Kagiyama!
Max would have to be Ilia Malinin, both for the backflips of course but also the general vibe lol.
not sure about Mr Wizard at present, I don't know how likely it is there would be a professional figure skater who can represent him pff. could be fun if he was a fictional figure skater, or someone from years ago, to be completely different from the rest, and account for his weird potential time-travel thing he's got going on. maybe I should start looking at 1970s competitions...
I absolutely agree to Max as Ilia Malinin! And want to draw it now lol (drawn them both already, but what if merge? Something interesting...)
I actually only know about the last Olympics mostly, so picking from it...

But mostly? The vibe of older brothers who is there not to win or sucsess at an adventure, but to give moral support, hug when crying, defende when attacked, yk?
And may i suggest Petr Gumennik as Wizard? Due to the "shady" background, been overall tall, and annoyingly been higher in results, than Ilia AKA Max?
I'm so trying not to say it based on looks (but well-)

you know what, I can see both of these lol. now I'm tempted to draw them as well. I'm tossing up whether to put the giggs characters in the skaters' iconic costumes, or turn the characters' more usual clothing into skating costumes, hmm

and the second page of Ruby and Amity drawings! I sketched these right after session 2 and coloured them more recently.
I had an idea that Ruby would have had longer hair in the past, then cut it after the uh, Incident (I'm assuming that whatever happened while Torment was in the house probably lead to his death and potentially also Amity's, or at the very least meant that Ruby never saw her again and also feels immense guilt about the whole situation. hence, rough hair cut).
a page of drawings I did after session 2 of giggs dnd! my brain took the tiny snippet of Amity and these two lines and very quickly went down the doomed yuri route (to be honest I've been waiting for an excuse to ship Ruby with an npc since session 0 because I personally think she deserves to kiss women after putting up with whatever the boys have going on).
Torment is also there, mostly because I wanted to be able to explore the full range of tieflings we have so far.
I have another page I drew at the same time but couldn't fit them in the same post so those will come later!
