"I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep;
I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion."
It had been years since the initial war on humanity had ended, or so you would call it so. There cannot be a world plagued by evil in which war does not occur; none shall ever see eye to eye on their perspectives of good and evil and as long as there was conflict and difference, blood would be spilt and tears will be shed.
Though the enemy was no longer the government itself and the secrets it may hold, it was now a group of rebels, set upon destroying any sort of order that there may be and it was all lead by shifters... In particular, I certain shifter in which he had once called comrade, and more than that... his best friend. However, as the now standing Commander of the Survey Corp, he knew that his emotions could no longer guide him on the matter... And once more, he would have to further detach himself from the the compassionate teenager and child he once was.
♚ Steadily, the horses kept a slow trotting pace as they ventured outside the reconstructed and fortified walls. Currently, the task he was asked to achieve was that of observation, and if an opportunity presents itself, take over. A small group of elite soldiers as well as himself began a mission in which they were to locate and, if possible, destroy one of the closer established bases of the rebels. It was unfit for a commander, and yet fists trembled against the horses reins as he very well knew he could come into contact with him... Thus knowing that he would have to take action. Eren had become a target that needed to be eliminated at all costs, no longer serving the betterment of humanity and fighting against it's will.... Eren had rejected a world that Armin himself had helped recreate...
Could I truly raise my blades against him?
♚ It would be quicker to break the horses into a run, but he didn't want to cause any sort of fuss that would give away their location. Currently, they were headed into a forested area, since it was his assumption that a hideout wouldn't be anywhere else... After the past failed surveillance missions, he could gather that it was somewhere in this location... Still, he raised his hand to give a silent order to the others to bring their horses to nothing but a walk, the upset and sickening feeling twisting in his stomach serving as some sort of intuition that they were close by. When he was younger he always joked that Mikasa and he had an 'Eren sense', the two of them always seeming to know when Eren was in trouble or close by... Was that something still accurate?
♚ Armin knew very well that there was two sides to every story, and he used to believe that if he heard Eren's side to the story, there would be some way to reason with him, if only they could come to an understanding... But now, he was past that point. Too many of his friends and soldiers had been murdered by the rebellion, so much that he was to the point where he not only sought a sort of justice, but vengeance for their deaths. He was still young, he was still naive enough to let anger cloud his judgements. Though he was a commander, he still felt entirely too much and was attached to the people he was close to, unlike how Erwin seemed to have been. He would not lead with an stone heart, but with an iron fist if he so needed to.
♚ It was approaching dusk by the time they arrived at a clearing in the center of the forest, and just as he had expected, a building that obviously not professionally built, standing dead center. With nothing but a few head nods and pointing down to his gear, he signaled Sasha, since she was the fastest on gear and rivaling even Mikasa, to go forward beyond what they believed to be their base, and to flare or make a noise if there was anything dangerous or something serious that needed to be investigated.
♚ However, only about a minute went by before a red signal rose in the sky... That signal meaning danger and then the quick sound of zipping gear accompanied by earth shaking beneath hooves and boots... A titan. Something that was not quite as common anymore, but still existed.. and under the control of a certain shifter. "We're leaving. Now." They didn't have the numbers to fight off anything too serious, it wasn't meant to be that sort of mission... But now he would just have to come back at a later, however soon, date to take violent action.
Don't turn around... Don't look. If it's
him, you won't be able to stand it.
