The News I've Been Dreading || Kerria & Fegan
His start of a question about her not being able to go had her gritting her teeth; eyes shutting tighter than previously, she found them suddenly opening and allowed an unstoppable stream of tears to part from her reddened hues. “I… I can’t leave—… you can’t tell, you can’t tell anyone,” her tone poured almost threateningly, though she couldn’t hurt a fly, truth be told. She would just die all over again if Marcus found out the truth through someone else.
She wasn’t sure if he knew about the other ghosts or not, and generally she would have had a hard time with the upcoming confession had she not felt so numb to the core. “I’m not even alive," she bluntly muttered, though through her bluntness leaked a hint of despair, a desperation that had her hoping he wouldn’t tell a soul. There was something she always found trustworthy about Fegan, though her judgement was never the best when it came down to it… she sat still, silently praying that everything would just fix itself in time.
Fegan took in a breath when he seen the tears fall, he hated tears and crying and more than that seeing someone so broken. He'd known that feeling. He hated it. Fegan let his eyes fall. "I...Okay." Fegan nodded, not really understanding what she was meaning but he was a good secret keeper. She didn't have to tell him anyways, he trusted her much like he trusted Marcus.Â
Fegan was at a loss for words for a long time, the silence echoed through the dark halls. What was he to say to that, it wasn't... he didn't know how to react. He didn't know how to believe what she was telling him. He believed in ghosts yeah, but ghosts were transparent and moaned. They didn't cry. Fegan shifted his feet. "Okay... I..." Fegan stopped, squinting his eyes in thought. "You don't have to explain... I...believe you...I guess... I just... I won't tell him." He said the last part louder. It was obvious that's what she meant when he couldn't tell anyone. Marcus probably didn't know the girl was...dead. Dead? Fegan took a deep breath.Â
Marcus/Fegan : Will you take care of me?
Marcus had grown restless over the last few days in the hospital. He wanted out, but the doctors needed to keep him until they were sure nothing else was damaged. Of course, they should have already figured that out, and he reminded the nurse of that everyday, but still they kept him. He had become irritated. It had been a week and he wanted to be outside.Â
Hearing the knock on the wall, Marcus turned his head to snap at the nurse to get the fuck out but the words stopped short. Despite himself, his jaw fell open at who was standing before him. “Fegan?” he asked, he almost thought it had to be a trick. That the nurse had laced his last I.V. needle with something to make him see things. He hadn’t seen Fegan since the night they had gotten into the argument and the other boy had kissed him. “Where the fuck have you been?”Â
Everything about Fegan trying to be strong fell apart instantly when he seen Marcus. His lip began to tremble. Of course they'd been away from each other before, they lived 15 years without each other and yet Fegan still felt like he couldn't stand the distance he put between them, and Fegan knew all to well that it was his fault. He stared hard Marcus, the flashbacks of there argument, the feelings bubbling back up in him. He felt sick. Fegan's grip on Benjy tightened, trying to remind himself of what he'd been doing. He was trying so hard to get better, not just for himself.Â
It took a minute for Marcus's words to process in his mind, it came in slow motion and Fegan reacted fairly slow to them. He swallowed thickly and sighed. "I...went to Washington..for a while. Are you okay?" He changed the subject to the reason he was actually here. "What happened?"Â
Marcus/Fegan : Will you take care of me?
Fegan's fingers shook as they dangled over the golden door knob. The hospital smelt sickening. The walls seemed to be closing in on him. He hadn't been in the hospital since he was young. Not since his brother fell and broke his arm. Fegan couldn't believe that he was here right now...looking for Marcus. Marcus who he hadn't seen in months, who he left unannounced on. Benjy lay against Fegan's shoulder, pouting at Fegan's uneasy demeanor.Â
Fegan finally opened the door after the nurse urged him to do so with wondering wide eyes. He walked in, turning to nod his head slightly at her. she said she would be in later. Fegan knocked on the wall, staring at his hand. Refusing to look for the man he called his best friend. He couldn't bare to see him weak. Marcus was always, always the strong one.Â
Alright let’s head up then. -Katie grins and moves toward her bedroom up the stairs and down the hall. Once in her room she points to the rocking chair and then begins to get into Leo’s dresser.-Â
Fegan sits down in the rocking chair when Katie points. He watches her while rocking Ben.
I hope it works for you. Nothing worse than an over tired baby. Mhm sure! Well why don’t we try to get him to sleep for right now and then you can go through the stuff?Â
Yeah, Thank you... he really needs some clothes.Â
Hmm, well Leo is usually wired until I can start settling him down. But I go rock him in the almost dark and hum to him and then he’ll usually fall asleep that way…you could try that? He could use Leo’s bed if you wanted to let him nap?Â
Well I have lots of stuff that’s Leo’s outgrown if you want to look through it?Â
I've managed to put him a bed together, thanks though. I'll try it.
Really?
So this is it...
There are these things we call a pen and paper, you use them to write.
Yeah but you are a little girl in LA all by herself. Anything could happen.Â
So this is it...
They don’t know I’m here, they know I’m coming back though. That’s what matters.
How do they know that?Â
Aw what’s wrong with him?Â
Do you need anything for him?Â
I think he's just tired...but he won't sleep.Â
I don't think so.Â
So this is it...
What do you think?
...I don't fucking know.Â
So this is it...
I can handle trouble.
...That's what I thought. Do your parents know you're here?Â
Benjy? What a sweet name with a sweet little face. -Katie leaned in a little and smiled.- This is the little guy you were talking about? He is precious.
Yeah this is him. He's a little fussy today..
So this is it...
Yes, I’m here by myself. Do you see anyone else with me?
Roaming LA at 15 by yourself? That's just asking for trouble.Â
So this is it...
Yeah, she is..she’s basically the reason I’m here. I want to meet her, bring her back to our parents.Â
Oh... You're here by yourself?
So this is it...
Um..do you know someone named Katelyn Marvel? Or did you?Â
....Oh...OH.Â
...Is she your sister?
So this is it...
Kora. Nice to meet you.
I have an older sister, that could be why. I’ve never been here before.
Huh....
This is going to bother me...
