Posting these today because I will be busy being angry tomorrow
Yeahh The Boys S5 is pretty bad and I have no idea how the finale is not gonna suck, but at least this week’s episode gave us Butcher/Kessler backshots and isn’t that something
Should i watch the boys
Uff. Okay. So.
First and foremost, you should know that this is an edgy show. And I mean “edgy”, including all the connotations that word has. Like, The Dark Knight’s Joker type shit. Everything is taken to the extreme — whenever you think “surely they wouldn’t show that on tv”, they’re going to do it. It’s very violent and gory and sexually explicit. Personally, I quickly just accepted that as part of the show’s identity, but sometimes it does feel over-the-top or like a 13 year old boy’s idea of what “cool” and “dark” mean.
Then there’s the fact that it got very, very bad after S3. I wouldn’t say it was perfect or anything before, but imo it was a very interesting, exciting, well-acted and well-made show. I like superhero media, I really like Watchmen and I like the concept of “what if superheroes were like celebrities with too much power, governed by an evil corporation”. That’s cool. That‘s really cool.
The characters are great. The only reason I still watch this shit is because I care for them and want to know what happens to them. (I know this is probably the obvious example, but Homelander is (or I guess was) genuinely one of the most well-written and complex characters I’ve ever seen and he elevates the entire show.)
It was very fun to watch this story!! It was fun to see the world-building expand and to discover the underlying secrets!!
So, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this show because seeing it go from something I loved and was interested in to what it is now is a very frustrating experience.
You could only watch seasons 1 and 2 for a semi-satisfying story and make up the rest in your head (or add S3 as well, which is a bit worse and leaves things even more inconclusive). But personally, I wouldn’t be able to do that and just keep watching because I would want to know what happens next.
Hope the answer wasn’t too long, I got a bit carried away
they should invent an ending to a tv series that is good
