Dolly Parton is a smart businesswoman and we are proud that she made this decision.
It's time to start planning your adventures for 2018 and we have a few suggestions! Where do you want to travel in the South this year? http://bit.ly/2Fo2QbS
Where to Go (in the South) in 2018
It’s the time of year when we start planning upcoming adventures. There are so many places I recommend visiting in the South, but 2018 will be an important year for many reasons. Each of these …
All Are Welcome Here
We can’t say that the events of Charlottesville haven’t affected us. While this website isn’t political, it’s impossible not to be. I want to take a very strong stance and say that the actions of the white supremacists defending the Confederate statues do not represent America or the South or even the city of Charlottesville. The statues of generals who wanted no monuments in their name should go so that we can move on towards a more inclusive region. The South is more than our past. There’s so much more happening in our future. The people here come from all corners of the globe and we want our website to reflect that. No hate will be tolerated in our community. I hope you’ll stay with us to share stories from our South, the place where all are welcome.

Have you ever been foraging? This is one activity that you should try in Asheville, North Carolina. You can pick edible plants and have them incorporated into a dish at The Omni Grove Park Inn to fully understand what local means. http://bit.ly/2vC4lit
Foraging for Edible Plants in Asheville, North Carolina
Now I’m no novice to plant life. As the pretentious hipster in Brooklyn asked me “Do you forage?” I shrug and say “Yeah I guess.” I roll my eyes at the mustachioed Instagram curated foraging …
Have you ever wondered about the history of Tabasco? Eat Your World takes a look at the Louisiana product.
Q&A: John Simmons, Sixth-Generation Tabasco Maker, Louisiana - Eat Your World blog
We meet John Simmons, Tabasco sauce maker (and family member) at McIlhenny Company.
Welcome back, Tumblrs.
I’m here to revive our Tumblr page for This Is My South, the travel guide to the American South. The website is undergoing some changes and I find that I need space to write about non-travel aspects of life in the region. So here’s what’s new in our neck of the woods:
• A new Store page: It includes both our own products, like the sweet trucker hat pictured above, and recommended books and gifts from Amazon
• New guest authors: A few new writers have content coming down the pipeline in the coming months. If you’d like to contribute, head over to our Contact page.
• Additional advertisements: Not everyone is happy about this part, but in order to keep the website growing, advertising is essential. But we only work with platforms and companies we support.
• Even more social updates: If you’re not following us on Instagram already, this is a good time to start. While our gallery is mostly posted after a trip, the Instagram Stories are in real time. For example, this week we visited Douglasville, Georgia’s Film Trail where Stranger Things and many others were filmed. Help us hit 3,000 followers by the end of 2017!
That’s all for now!

Southern Stays is a series in which we review a property, whether it be a hostel, hotel or other forms of accommodation. To suggest a property please leave a comment or email us.
Miami is full of stylish accommodations, from the chic hostels of Miami Beach to the Art Deco wonders of Collins Avenue. Circa 39 Hotel is somewhere in between, surrounded by the city’s most luxurious brands but with an approachable style. The hotel is a short walk away from the famous beaches, as well as restaurants and shops, and a short drive from Wynwood and the city’s attractions. The decor brings together global style and a uniquely Miami color palette. The boutique property features 97 certified green rooms between two buildings connected by a breezeway.
The hotel has its own bar, restaurant, gym, and pool. At Jules Kitchen, enjoy a hearty breakfast and local Panther Coffee or salads and sandwiches for lunch and dinner. Wunder Bar focuses on rum-based craft cocktails with a Caribbean spin. Located in the lobby, they also have a popular daily happy hour. Enjoy your beverage poolside or even in the garden courtyard. Circa 39’s gym has all the equipment you need and when you’re ready for sun, your stay includes a beach chair already set up for you.
Rooms come in king or double beds with all the amenities that you need for your stay. Bathrooms have bathrobes and top-notch Aveda toiletries and hairdryers. Bedrooms have flat screen televisions, complimentary WiFi, mini-fridges, closets, coffee makers, and towels for bath and beach. Circa 39’s sister hotel, The Palms Hotel & Spa, also has a spa for its guests to also use.
