When the stranger offered to help, Josh was taken aback momentarily. For someone who was so defensive moments ago, something about his story must’ve allowed the brunette to soften. “You will?” He wondered aloud, almost breathless as the worry he’d clung to so fiercely began to dissipate at the thought of having help. “My– Oh, I’m Josh.” He answered, heaving out another small breath of fresh air. He could finally enjoy the pine scent from the trees, the fresh earth beneath their shoes. “This almost feels surreal.” Joshua admitted, curious as to the woman’s name too. “When I first got here, I didn’t have a lot of hope that I’d actually find someone who could help me out.” Shaking his head a fraction, “But here you are.” Pausing, he tilted his head gently. “Pretty sure I should get your name as well. Unless you enjoy being the mysterious girl in the woods?” The end of his sentence a question to lighten the mood that had clouded over Josh.
”I do.” Malia commented with a slight smirk crawling across her lips. It was probably good that she’d taken him to the cellar so he could take it all in and mentally prepare for the full moon rather than just springing it all on him on the night of. “Meet me here on the tenth, when the next full moon’s happening. We’ll start at seven and you should probably bring fresh clothes, I’ll take care of the rest.” she let him know and depending on that night, Malia would decide how they’d go from there. “I might even tell you my name then.”
nerdyxwolfy:
It had a great impact on Josh, knowing that it was in his DNA somewhere. Did that mean it came from his mom’s side or his father’s? Both? Did his brother have the gene too? “I don’t think so. I mean, my father had some issue with calling paranormal or supernatural things a hoax.” Josh revealed. Now there were so many questions Josh had, so many that he’d probably never know the answer too since he refused to be near his parents after his brother died. His eyes darkened with a bit of sadness when Malia asked who he killed. Swallowing a thick lump, he looked her directly in the eyes, somehow not afraid of what she’d think. “My brother.” His answer fell softer than his other questions had, showing the shock and confusion that boiled beneath his skin. “It was my fault he died.” Josh added after a brief pause fell between the two of them. “He was my best friend and I was careless. If I had been a better person, if I hadn’t been stupid then maybe he’d still be standing here with me right now.” Taking a small breath, Josh had no idea why he’d admitted that to a total stranger, but something about Malia spoke to Josh and told him that his secret was safe with her.
This had to have happened only a couple of weeks ago since Josh was a brand new werewolf and she could sense how anxious he was about it all. “I’ll help you.” Malia suddenly said, knowing that that was what her Alpha would want her to do. Scott was a good person and he wanted his pack to be that way as well. While she wouldn’t have offered help to anybody if she’d still been on her own, Malia had changed ever since she’d become a part of Scott’s pack. The person standing in front of her clearly needed help and didn’t know which way to go or how to handle this new life that had come with a curse every month. Who else was gonna help him through this, right? “I mean, I don’t see anyone else lined up for the job and you seem like you need it. You got a name?”
nerdyxwolfy:
Malia was right. Google only flooded Josh with horror stories and myths regarding werewolves and their curses. “Unfortunately, yeah. You are.” He blew out a soft breath, looking across the darkness at the woman with a hopeful glint to his eyes despite the worry that swirled behind them. “I didn’t even know what a curse was or that it somehow was a part of my DNA. At least, that’s what I saw online. This… curse… it’s genetic isn’t it?” Maybe he was wrong but if he went by myth, he’d have to have been bitten by a werewolf. And Joshua never experienced a situation like that. He didn’t even know werewolves existed until every bone in his body broke the first full moon after losing his brother. He liked facts and truth in life and perhaps Malia could give him more information, anything to help everything that had happened to him make sense. “And what does it mean to trigger it?” Josh felt as though he was still going in blind, though he remained calm despite every nerve in his body screaming with anxiety.
“Runs in the family, I’m afraid. Either your mom or your dad has the gene... or they both do. Either way, it’s passed onto you.” she explained and in her own case, both her parents were werewolves, so of course Malia had inherited the gene from them and was cursed ever since she was born - like Josh was too. “No one’s ever told you about this stuff? Your parents never said anything to, I don’t know... keep you from triggering the curse? Or maybe they don’t even know what they are and haven’t triggered their own curse...” Malia didn’t mean to spin his head or anything, but she was known to be honest - brutally so, without any filters. And if his family hadn’t filled him in on anything, then maybe it was time for him to learn about what he was after all these years. “You have to kill somebody in order to trigger the curse. Purposely or accidentally, doesn’t really matter. You take a life, the curse is yours forever. So who’d you kill?”
nerdyxwolfy:
Nodding, Joshua almost felt embarrassed by how inexperienced he really was with the entire werewolf thing. His cheeks flushed gently, creating a rosy color upon his skin and he could feel the heat behind them. “Well, I mean, I Googled as much as I could but I…” Taking a sharp breath inward, he exhaled harshly. “All I could find were things about myths and nothing seemed real.” And when Malia mentioned wolfs bane, his eyes glossed over very interested. “I saw pictures of the plant but I didn’t know that it really existed.” He admitted and then watched as Malia took charge and lead the way. Interested, Josh followed her, feet snapping small branches on the ground as he proceeded to the cellar. The squeak of the metal gate proved to Josh that it had been used hundreds of times. Perhaps the hinges needed a bit of grease. Coming into the space, he could see clear through the darkness, eyes flashing a yellow color briefly. “So, the wolves here? They all do that?” It seemed so simple, but Josh hadn’t heard of preparing for the moon in any of the other places he had traveled before securing a home in Mystic Falls. He walked by Malia, allowing his fingers to trace claw marks on the cellar walls. Swallowing thickly, he turned to face her momentarily. It was a lot to take in and Josh was almost overwhelmed even though it was necessary for him to know this information in order to survive. “…I want to know more. I need to know how to control this.”
”Googled?” Malia allowed her eyebrows to come together, not making fun of him, but genuinely not understanding why he thought that Google could actually provide him with any help. Technology wasn’t of any assistance in this situation, this was something you needed people for, someone who knew what they were up against and getting themselves into. Malia herself had never once Googled anything regarding her species, she’d learned the hard way about what it was like to be a lycanthrope. “Google only has horror stories on it. And probably a bunch of urban myths that are false anyway, written by humans who don’t even know the supernatural world is real.” she commented, noticing how surprised and overwhelmed he was by being in the cellar - clearly having no idea about any of this, how it usually went down for triggered werewolves. “How did you know it was? I’m gonna say it was after you triggered by accident. Am I right?”
nerdyxwolfy:
It was interesting how Malia had turned the conversation around, dropping her protective demeanor. “I get it. I do. I would feel the same if I was actually in a pack.” Josh knew that a pack was important for a werewolf. Being an omega left him really vulnerable to hunters and other supernatural creatures. He wanted guidance and help and since Malia seemed to be offering it, he felt grateful internally. “You do?” He wondered aloud, curious as to what her situation had been like before being in a pack. “I uh, don’t really know what it means to prepare for the full moon. I tried to keep myself contained in my apartment and well, I failed miserably. What do you mean by prepare?” Tilting his head a fraction, Josh just studied the hybrid, glad she had softened up a bit. He had a feeling she didn’t do that just for anyone. Was she really going to give him a chance? Perhaps running into the woman was what he needed all along. “I guess I’d need a lot to prepare for it. I’m kind of going in blind here.” He added after a brief pause, almost embarrassed that he didn’t know how to control his inner wolf. Josh was intelligent and yet he felt insecure almost for not knowing how to navigate the whole werewolf problem he was having.
”Wow, you really are a baby werewolf, aren’t you?” Malia was a little surprised by his lack of knowledge when it came to his own species. He’d triggered his curse, but had no idea how to go about his monthly transformations and she couldn’t help but feel for the guy. He was a total newbie, a werepup who had no one to look after him and show him the ropes of being a lycanthrope. “You know, prepare by locking yourself up in a cellar with chains and wolfs bane...” the brunette commented, hoping to ring some sort of bell, but she highly doubted that she would since Josh had asked her about preparing in the first place. “You have no idea what I mean, do you? Come on.” Malia motioned her head into the other direction, beginning to march towards the Lockwood cellar so she could show him what she meant by preparing for the full moon. Upon arrival, the hybrid pushed the metal gate open and headed down into the dark space, though her supernatural sight enabled her to see everything just fine. “This is how werewolves prepare. Mostly for the full moon, sometimes for other purposes.”
nerdyxwolfy:
“The only person who could’ve helped me was him,” Joshua almost whispered, a sadness draping his words as he was obviously mentioning his deceased brother. Shaking his head marginally, he wondered if he’d ever forgive himself for that fateful night. “This is my only shot at finding real help.” The books he had gone over time and time again were only so helpful. Josh was tired of being alone in this, tired of not having a family, a pack. “I know it’s probably not the best idea to march into some unknown town and search for the alpha. It’s natural that you’d want to protect your territory and your friends. I know I’m a new person who’s kind of imposing here, but if you help me out, I promise you it won’t be a mistake.”
This new werewolf evidently had a lot to learn, that was crystal clear. Maybe he’d come to the right place when running into Malia then. No offense to Scott or anything, but the hybrid had a lot more experience with being a lone wolf without a pack or anyone to rely or fall back on. So maybe it was better that he’d bumped into her instead of Scott. Not that the brunette trusted this guy as she didn’t know him, so her guard was still very much up. But if she promised to help him, then his true intentions would eventually become clear - especially since Malia could read people really well because she was perfectly in tune with her senses. “I protect my pack first and foremost. That’s what it means to be in one.” she commented and she agreed with the rest of his remark too. However, protecting her territory and her friends was a personal thing, something she did for herself. Protecting her pack was for others as well, for the other Betas and her Alpha. “Pretty sure I’m more qualified to help you than my Alpha is. I’ve got a lot of experience with being packless and alone. Next full moon’s on October 10. Did you do anything to prepare for that one? Do you even know how to prepare?”
nerdyxwolfy:
The way Malia mumbled her realization caught Joshua off guard. Her tense demeanor seemed to shift and at first he wasn’t certain she was still talking to him. Until he glanced around and realized it was still just the two of them in the middle of the wooded area. “Yeah,” Josh responded, softly just the same. Shrugging, his face scrunched lightly. “Like two?” Scratching the back of his neck, the brunette tried to remain positive, but it was tough. He had to divulge more information, at least to help the other supernatural understand that he was being truthful and not in any way deceitful. “..I, uh, I accidentally killed my older brother.” He revealed, though the details would remain shut in the back of his mind. The wolf didn’t know the woman at all, so some things were better left unsaid. “And I’ve always had this rage within me, right? Then the next thing I know, that rage continued to grow around the full moon. Then that night came and it just– it changed everything.” Pausing, he looked downwards, eyes trying to etch patterns in the fallen leaves. “Every bone of my body broke. I was in agonizing pain, not sure of what was happening to me. When morning came, all I remembered was the shift in my body. Everything else that happened after that? ..I don’t remember. I think I hurt people.” Guilt seeped into his words, eyes finally raising to meet Malia’s.
He’d only turned twice? That meant that he’d been a triggered werewolf for two months and it didn’t look like he had anyone to help him through the full moons. The transformations got easier with time, but they were really painful in the beginning, especially if a werewolf went through them all alone. This was probably why he was looking for Scott - being part of a pack would give him more security and safety, so it made sense to Malia the more he explained it to her. His words almost took her back to the time when she herself had just triggered. Just like the man standing before her, Malia had gone through it alone, without anyone helping her. “Turning gets easier with time, but it’s a total bitch in the beginning. I’m gonna assume you did all of that by yourself? You don’t have anyone there to help you, do you? That’s why you want the Alpha...”
nerdyxwolfy:
Josh could sense the caution written on the other supernatural’s face. It wasn’t just in her body language, but in her actual scent. Swallowing thickly, he rolled his shoulders softly in a shrug. “What else would a semi-newly turned wolf want with an Alpha?” He asked curiously, still taken aback over the woman’s defensiveness. Then again, he had just wandered into unknown territory and things could’ve been a lot worse for the wolf. “I’m looking for someone who can help me out, show me some direction. I don’t understand how half of this stuff works.” He was having issues controlling his rage, channeling his inner wolf and worse, black outs during full moons. Joshua just wanted a sense of normalcy in his life again. “Maybe I approached this all wrong but I’m just looking for help. Maybe some bit of guidance.” After all, being an omega, a wolf without a pack left him vulnerable.
Eyebrows came together as the young man started answering her question. She studied his form, eyes going over him slowly, as if to take it all in and to see if he was being truthful. He did appear to be new at this, just by the way he talked and carried himself - those things spoke volumes to Malia. She’d become pretty good at studying and reading people over the years and this werewolf had probably triggered his curse very recently. “You’re brand new...” the hybrid mumbled softly, more so to herself than to him. She’d heard what he said and even more than that, Malia had taken his words in and they matched his unsure body language flawlessly - it was the main reason why she believed him. If he’d been lying, she would have known instantly. Who had he killed in order to trigger his curse? Had he even experienced a full moon before? So many things raced through her mind about this man now. If this was a new werewolf, he had no pack and no one to help him through any of this and Malia remembered that part of her life so vividly. It felt really lonely and terrifying to have to go through those things by yourself and she didn’t wish that on anybody. “How many times have you turned?”
