I’m not sure if I’m allowed to talk to you.
And...why wouldn't you be allowed to?
"Right...sorry. What was it you were saying?"
Loudon just laughed lightly as he raised a brow, before nodding. “That’s probably a wise idea, while not all of the guards are bad, there are some assholes out there that’ll treat you like shit just because you’re an inmate. So if one is giving you a problem, you come to my office and I’ll keep you here as long as you need, that’s a promise.” The doctor knew there was more good guards than bad, but he had heard plenty of things about the bad and for some reason he didn’t really want to see this younger man caught up in it.
"Oh, believe me, I know enough about guards. Been in and out of prison long enough to figure some stuff out." Felix shrugged a little bit, leaning back against the wall behind him, rolling his shoulders back in an effort to ease some tension. "Like I said, I'll probably take you up on that offer."
Tae sighed and nodded, looking over at the other with a soft smile. “It’s okay… I don’t like people staring or touching or whatever so I get it.” He replied, keeping his eyes on the ground from now on though. He wasn’t sure that he could trust the man, he couldn’t really trust anyone like him after what he’d been through but… He could try, right?
Felix gave a slight nod, continuing to walk. He'd always been on the defensive side, not exactly welcoming to anyone right off the bat unless he figured they'd be useful to him in the future somehow. Clearing his throat, Felix glanced at him again. "Ah...I'm Felix, by the way."
"Maybe. What’s your name?" He asked, still trying to figure out how he looked so familiar. Maybe he was just going crazy in here. Already. Wouldn’t be so surprising.
He continued to look the other inmate over a second before he cleared his throat and slipped his hands into his pockets, tilting his head. "Felix Lawson."
Maddox came to life as soon as the object of his attention seemed to grow aware of his scrutinizing gaze. He shrugged himself away from the wall of his cell. “Nothin’, you just look like someone I know, s’all.”
Staring back at him a moment, Felix stopped walking and crossed his arms as he looked the other inmate over, trying to decide if he'd ever seen him before. He tilted his head, giving a slight laugh. "Maybe I just have one of those faces."
Atticus tapped the butt of his pen against the pad in his hand, eyebrows raised expectantly. When the inmate insisted that he hadn’t assaulted him, and suggested that he wouldn’t divulge his name, Atticus scoffed. “Of course,” he said, rolling his eyes. “I’ll tell you what — I’ll find your name. And when I do, I’ll find you again. I’ll drag your ass to whatever dark corner no one will be able to find your rotting corpse in, and I’ll throw myself a grand Welcome Home party. How hard can it be?” He already knew what job the inmate had. Atticus closed and pocketed the pad of paper, signalling to the other that it was too late to go back on his word now. “Let your imagination run on that one, kid. I’ll be back.” With that, he turned on his heel and began making his way back down the hall.
Watching the other man with an almost bored expression, Felix shifted his grip on the broom handle, jaw clenching. He'd gotten plenty of threats from inmates and guards before, but this one made Felix just a tiny bit more leery than was usual for him. Either because it was a new place or he didn't really know the guard...Felix wasn't sure. The inmate tried to shake off the feeling, his look of boredom replaced by a frown as he watched the guard start to walk away from him and Felix sighed. "Are you really going to report me for slapping your fuckin' hand away?" He shouted after him, not at all expecting a response.
The very second the inmate moved Atticus’s hand away, the guard pushed him roughly back into the door that he had been leaning against. “Assaulting an officer is a hefty charge here in Alcatraz,” he said, trying to fight off the flaring hot anger. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a notepad and a pen. “Refusal to do job,” he said, speaking as he wrote. “Physical and verbal assault of an officer …” His eyes flickered back up toward the inmate, and he chuckled before finishing off his report. “And looking like a general douchebag. What’s your name, inmate?”
He was expecting the guard to retaliate, so Felix wasn't exactly surprised to find himself suddenly pushed back against the door. "I pushed your hand, that's hardly assaulting you." The inmate retorted, unable to help a small snort as he watched the guard closely. Felix huffed out a little breath, wetting his lips and shaking his head. "You really think I'm gonna tell you that?"
"N-Nothing…" Tae murmured, his eyes falling from the other and back to the ground as he walked. He knew why he was near the back, he didn’t like to be around the others all that much and he especially didn’t like to be touched.
Felix looked back at the kid for a second, slipping his hands into his pockets as they continued to walk. He cleared his throat, shaking his head a little. "Sorry." The apology slipped passed his lips as Felix offered a faint smile. "Just don't like people staring, that's all."
The slow pace with which the inmate worked bothered Atticus more than his mouth did. He watched as he took his time with the mop, agitation brewing in the guard’s veins with each passing moment. Finally, enough had become enough, and Atticus’s booted foot came to push violently at the bucket, knocking it over and spilling its contents. The dirty water pooled on the floor, spreading out and reaching into the cracks of the tile.
Smiling, Atticus reached out and pinched the inmate’s cheek before patting it — a bit too roughly. “Get to fucking work,” he said.
The amusement he'd been feeling from before immediately turned to annoyance when the guard pushed over the bucket. Watching with a faint scowl as the dirty water made its way across the floor, Felix tightened his hand on the broom handle so that he didn't punch the guard like he wanted to.
Felix narrowed his eyes as his cheek was patted roughly, reaching out a hand to shove the other man's hand away from him. "Hey, hands off, asshole."
"Hello! What’s going on?"
"Still trying to get a feel for this place." Felix chuckled a little bit. "I don't believe we've met."
