Feeling Alive | Felix & Miranda
The more Miranda thought about her own question, the more curious she became. The immorality of killing was disgusting to her and not something she thought sheâd ever be able to stand. She had always tried to live a good and decent life in order to look like a good person to her child, or well her nephew and the Games were going to completely destroy that. She didnât want to kill anyone, no matter how critical the situation. She wasnât scared but sheâd rather die a hero than live long enough to see herself become a villain. Felix had obviously chosen the latter. Fucking careers.
âSo you donât think about it at all?â Miranda had always had a strong conscious and she didnât imagine that going away if she murdered someone, no matter what the circumstances were. âYou donât think about the families that lost a loved one? The potential good the person you killed could have done? Or how itâs now also partially your fault that those people will never see the light of day ever again?â She spoke nonchalantly about it, as if it wasnât as important to her as it really was. She didnât completely blame Felix for responding the way he had in the Arena, but instead blamed the Capitol for the most part. âOr how youâve done nothing to stop it for future tributes?â If she survived this, which she really hoped she did, she would do everything in her power to bring down Snow and the Capitol. If there wasnât some secret Resistance already, she would start her own and would burn the Capitol down.Â
âCuriosity killed the cat.â She said with a shrug of her shoulders. She was no longer hungry, her appetite ruined with the prospect of murder. His smile bothered her; the ability to smile so genuinely after speaking about the people youâd killed was repulsive. âAs if I could get a mentor like you in trouble.â She added, as sarcastically as she possibly could.Â
Her line of questioning reminded Felix uncomfortably of Lennox. Perhaps she was fishing for a reaction, some kind of proof that he was either exactly who she thought he was or something else entirely. Felix released a heavy breath and rolled his eyes, leaning back in his chair. "You don't have to look far to find a murderer in this place, so ask your own mentors this crap. Ask them what they've done to alleviate their guilty consciences."
Felix honestly didn't care about the families of the tributes he'd killed. He'd kept his own family from becoming like them, and they were the only people in the world that mattered to him. The one thing he regretted from his time in the Arena was being unable to save Xanthe. She deserved to live, more than him, and if she'd survived those first few moments he might've fallen just to keep her alive. Maybe. He wasn't sure. Now he'd never know.
"Curiosity killed the cat."
"I'll give you some advice," Felix said. "Just because you're probably going to die in the Arena, don't think that's the worst that can happen to you here. Keep your head down and your mouth shut." He doubted she'd hear anything of the sort from her own mentors. She was from a poorer District, where Careers were abhorred and rebellion was a match strike away. Felix wasn't stupid; he knew there were people who wanted to fight. There always were. But he worked for the Capitol and they worked for him, kept him and his family secure and safe. Mentors who didn't cooperate lost the things that counted, until they had nothing left to lose.
He sat watching her, tempted to get up and leave but deciding he wanted to stay. She'd approached him, anyway. It wasn't his place to back out of the conversation just because it was getting irritating. âAs if I could get a mentor like you in trouble.â He cocked a brow at her but didn't respond. It was the truth, after all. He'd earned the right to become a mentor and hold onto his life. She hadn't. Not yet.
Pathos || Celia & Felix
Felix stood outside the Training Center with his escort, a tall and gangly man with diamonds set in his two front teeth. A cigarette dangled from the mentor's lips. He only ever smoked in the Capitol, when the scent of nicotine and alcohol was rampant at every party and function. Most cigarettes here had sweet, chemically-altered tastes rather than the real thing, and his mouth tasted so strongly of vanilla that he cringed every time he inhaled.
His escort was talking to him, but his voice and his accent was grating on Felix's ears. Looking at the man through narrowed eyes, the victor took the cigarette from between his lips and tossed it on the sidewalk, crushing it underfoot. "Are you ready to go back inside?" the escort asked, raising his finely manicured eyebrows.
"No," Felix answered, shaking his head. He started to walk away from the Training Center, aiming his body in whichever direction took his fancy first. "I'd rather walk."
"You can't go alone," his escort exclaimed, already moving to follow him. Felix smoked only as an opportunity to get fresh air outside and to appear casual as he loitered outside watching the streets and the people. His escort had been keeping a closer eye on him, it seemed, since the incident with the District 9 mentor. Felix wanted to roam the city on his own again but didn't have the opportunity any more. Eventually his escort would unstick himself and latch onto the tributes instead, as he was neglecting his duties by tailing the mentor everywhere he went.
Felix walked without making any conscious choice of where to go and by the time he chose to turn around and return to the Training Center, his escort had been lagging behind boredly. The first thing Felix did in the lobby was to march towards the stairs, taking them two steps at a time to the second floor. His escort took the elevator and beat him there, slipping off to find Marcus and Artemis.
Alone but caged in the Training Center, Felix went searching the floor for something to keep him busy. He decided to knock on Celia's door, unsure if his mentor partner was even in there. Felix rapped his knuckles against the wood and then leaned against the doorframe, listening. "Oh, Celia," he called out, wondering if he'd get a response.
Can we just take a moment and appreciate this manâs body â„
Feeling Alive | Felix & Miranda
Miranda wasnât really sure how to go about talking to a career mentor. Or just a career in general. She held the same general animosity for them as anyone who wasnât considered a career and she felt like she was cheating by just talking to the mentor. Though she was also curious, curious as to how many people he has killed in his lifetime and if he felt anything remotely similar to remorse for them. She couldnât wrap her head around any career having emotions, and this mentor didnât seem to have any to change that belief.
Once the question of how many people he killed, in his Games or otherwise, was in her head, she couldnât leave it alone. Perhaps if she cared about the niceties of the world she would have fought herself harder on the subject. Instead she just calmly said, âSo how many people have you killed? Just in general terms?â She hated herself for how casual she sounded but over her weeks of training she had done her best to grow used to the idea of killing. For Harvieâs sake, for her entire familyâs sake. Though she did like to think when the Games were over, if she won of course, she would still retain some form of humanity. She took a small bite of the cheese sandwich in front of her as she tried to understand the concept of keeping your humanity after taking another personâs life.
Felix was caught off guard by the question. Most people tiptoed around his crimes, obvious and otherwise, because it was what they'd been brought up to do. People from the Districts kept their mouths shut and people from the Capitol hardly saw anything in such stark terms as murder. Felix didn't know how to respond for a long minute, furrowing his brow in confusion, wondering if he'd misheard her. The girl didn't balk or backtrack and she didn't try to clarify. No one could make him feel bad for the things he'd done, and he found himself thinking over the names and faces from the Arena.
"In general terms?" he repeated, his lips quirking up into a smirk. "Enough." Perhaps she was simply curious, being a tribute, and he decided to elaborate. He gave her a critical look, weighing her up against his own tributes, past and present.
"You'll figure it out in the Arena, but killing isn't quite so hard as you might think. Emotionally, it's more like putting your dog to sleep rather than seeing it suffer." Most of his competition he'd decimated quickly and quietly. Putting on a show for the cameras was beneath him, though he liked the way blood pulsed from open wounds when he attacked with a blade. It wasn't necessarily fun, but it wasn't horrible either. He didn't wake ten times in the night from nightmares the way other victors did. His conscience was calm and carefree, aware that had he not snapped necks or driven his knife into eye sockets the tributes he'd killed might have suffered in death rather than disappearing from the world with a soft grunt or whisper.
Felix blinked as he withdrew from his thoughts and focused on the girl again. "Why do you ask?" he questioned, a suspicious edge to his voice, which he lightened with a droll smile. "You're not trying to get me into trouble, are you?"
Other Poison Devils || Rona & Felix
âI think youâre exaggerating my skills a bit."
Rona shrugged. "Maybe, maybe not. You seem like a pretty strong man. And anyone, with the proper strength, could twist a deer's neck." What a morbid conversation topic. Rona wasn't a vegetarian, but the thought of killing any animal was enough to make her cry and swear off meat forever. So she tended to avoid thinking about it, because the thought of no meat was almost worse then the thought of those poor animals.
âI donât scare you, do I?â
Pondering the question for only a mere second, Rona shook her head. "No," she said simply and honestly. "Quite the opposite. I feel safe with you." Rona looked at him seriously, one eyebrow going up as she readied her next question. "Should I be scared?" She couldn't explain why, but sitting here with Felix, a Hunger Games victor -a sure sign he was capable of killing- was actually more relaxing then if Rona was chatting with a ditzy Capitol citizen who couldn't hurt a fly.
âNo alcohol then. Any preferences?â
Pleased that he acknowledged her request, Rona smiled widely up at him. "I would like juice, if they have it. Any kind is alright. Except cranberry. Not fond of that stuff." If there was one thing about the Games' Tributes that Rona liked, it was the fact that they often went and got things for themselves instead of depending on the Avox that were scattered about the room. Maybe it was because they had grown up without them or maybe it was something else. Either way, Rona respected them for it. Â For some of the Capitol Citizens treated an Avox no better then you would a rabid dog. That just sickened Rona. Sure, the Avox were servants, but they shouldn't be abused.
You seem like a pretty strong man. And anyone, with the proper strength, could twist a deer's neck. Feeling his smile grow of its own accord, Felix attempted to respond to her comment. He couldn't stop thinking of the tribute whose neck he'd snapped in the Arena, but he doubted Rona would appreciate the story. Besides, there wasn't much to tell. It was dark and he'd crept up on the boy, grabbed both sides of his head in his hands and fiercely twisted until he heard the dull pops and snaps of his neck breaking. He'd fallen to the ground with an odd grace, elegant in death as he tumbled bonelessly, a bag of flesh and bone.
Felix's thoughts were running away with him, leading him down a tantalizing road of memories and senses. He merely remained quiet and let his attention slide from Rona and to the mass of people mingling together, clusters and asides of party guests with no sense of intimacy or interest between them. It was horribly superficial, but Felix was used to it.
Should I be scared? The correct answer, considering Felix's meandering train of thought, was yes. But he shrugged and looked back at her. "Fear is a useful emotion," he said. "Some people don't have enough of it."
Nodding his head at her request, he said, "I'll be back soon then. Save my seat for me." He slipped away from the table, working his way through the crowd and towards the bar. Every now and again someone tried to talk to him, but he staunchly brushed off every attempt at interaction and approached the bar.
"Juice?" he said shortly to the bartender, lifting a brow in addition to his gruff question. The man mixing drinks looked at him strangely before taking a bottle of orange juice from the fridge behind the bar, pouring a glass full of it.
"Anything else?" the bartender asked, gesturing at the glass as though it wasn't complete without at least a splash of alcohol. Felix asked for a shot of vodka and carried both drinks back to the table, setting Rona's juice down in front of her and sitting down before he held his shot up towards her with a grin. "Cheers," he said.
Other Poison Devils || Rona & Felix
âIn the end I came willingly.â [..] âThe decision was a means to an end, though. The things I do to make women happy.â
Rona laughed quietly, musing silently how Felix didn't seem like the man to let a woman control him. Maybe he really liked the girl. Or maybe she was just really hot and Felix knew that by coming, he would get to spend the night with her. Who was Rona to judge? Besides, had he not come -women beside the point- what would have had happened with that man? She really didn't want to think about that. "You have a nice smile," she said sincerely. "It makes you less scary when you smile." Rona gave a sheepish smile. "I only mean that you're quite intimidating with your size and deep voice. But when you smile, you don't look like someone who can twist a neck of a deer as easily as you could pop the lid off of a jar." She met his gaze head on, sounding matter-of-fact. She wasn't trying to insult him or categorize him as a killer. She was just saying it like she saw it.
âMy date has been ignoring me all night, though. Can I get you a drink?â
Matching his smile, although hers was a little more guarded then his, Rona slowly considered his offer. "That's not very nice of your date." She said to buy herself more time to think. Did she trust this man not to get her something bad? He may be a victor, therefore well known and well liked, but that didn't mean Rona could trust him not to drug her or anything. Not that she was accusing of Felix doing bad things, still, one could never be too careful. "Alright," she said finally. "As long as it is not alcoholic. I'd love to have a drink with you." He really didn't seem that bad. Besides, having a drink with him was the least she could do. He had saved her from that man. And despite his size and commanding presence, Felix didn't really scare Rona.
"You have a nice smile." Felix didn't know how to react to that. He just looked at her curiously, uncertainly. His smile wasn't the thing most people noticed about him. "It makes you less scary when you smile." That made more sense. He was almost proud that he appeared scary, and intimidating. Although he didn't want to scare Rona, so he smiled again, in a half-hearted attempt to appease her. "I only mean that you're quite intimidating with your size and deep voice. But when you smile, you don't look like someone who can twist a neck of a deer as easily as you could pop the lid off of a jar." A genuine laugh bubbled up and he shook his head, amused.
"I think you're exaggerating my skills a bit," he said, though he didn't quite believe his own assurance. He felt like a force of nature sometimes, taking what he wanted when he wanted it. His training hadn't made the difference in the Arena; no, what put him over the top was his ability to be self-serving. He frowned thoughtfully and looked a little closer at Rona, twisting a little in his chair to face her somewhat, resting his arm across the back of his chair.
"I don't scare you, do I?" He wasn't sure why he was asking. It just felt like something he should know. Odds were he was harassing her just the way that man had been and she was too polite to tell him to leave.
He smiled when she agreed to a drink, but couldn't help hearing the caution in her voice when she made her stipulation. "No alcohol then," he said, pushing his chair back and standing up. "Any preferences?" He could sweep through the room and find champagne and beer simply by sticking his hand out, but non-alcoholic drinks were a little harder to come by. If he was going to make the effort, he might as well do it right.
Other Poison Devils || Rona & Felix
âYouâre that singer. Itâs hard to go a step in this city without seeing you on a magazine cover.â
"That's the price of being pretty," Rona joked humorously. She watched his bottle with an avid interest, curious as to how he was able to knock that drink back so easily. Didn't it burn his throat? Or coat his tongue with an awful flavor? Maybe he was used to it.. maybe he liked it. Rona mentally sighed at herself. Her age was showing again. She had to remember that adults rarely cared about the taste. They just cared that everyone else was doing it or that the buzz was better then the taste. Or maybe they had good tasting alcohol. Rona wouldn't know and she didn't really care to see if that was the case.
âI knew Iâd seen you before. And itâs no trouble, really.â
Rona rose one eyebrow. No trouble? For him maybe. But for her, it was a big deal. People in the Capitol often turned a blind eye to things going on around them. Apart from Felix, Rona was sure no one else would have tried to stop that old man from jumping her bones. "Well, thank you anyways," she repeated.
âWho forced you to come tonight?â ... âNo one in their right minds chooses to come to a party like this.â ... âAnd you seem far too smart to be as empty-headed as everyone else here.â
Laughing quietly, Rona looked over at him. "My manager and mother forced me to come. I don't know why though. As soon as we got here, they abandoned me to go socialize and puke up food they don't even want to eat. Like eating someones food will make them like you." Rona's eyes widened. She hadn't meant to say that last part. "You're right though," she said quickly, trying to ignore that she had basically just insulted her own mother. "These parties are insane and no one sane would come willingly. So I must ask, why are you here? Are you insane or did someone force you to tag along?"
Rona tried to find her mother or Lila, but that was like trying to find a flea on a dog. Impossible. There were so many people and her mother was sure to keep moving around, never standing still long enough for Rona to pin point her location. She vaguely wondered what Lila and her mother would do if they found out Rona left the party early. Because it would be so easy to slip outside for "a smoke" and then just never return. While she didn't actually smoke, Rona kept a pack of cigarettes in her purse so she could use it as an excuse to get away. And right now she was so tempted to just say to Felix, 'I need to go out for a smoke, I'll be right back.' But that would be rude since he had just saved her. Perhaps she would wait 5 or so minutes. That was a sufficient amount of time, right?
That's the price of being pretty. A mirthless smile lifted the corners of Felix's lips as he pressed his mouth against the rim of his beer bottle, pausing thoughtfully before tipping more of the liquid down his throat. She wasn't wrong. Beautiful faces abound in the Capitol. He shrugged off her thanks rather noncommittally. These kinds of exchanges were boring to him. Gratitude wasn't something he really cared for - or received very often.
He looked at her as she spoke, wondering how old she was. Probably not older than twenty years old, perhaps even younger. He didn't follow her career closely at all so he didn't know much about her. If she was still under the thumb of her mother, she was probably a minor. He laughed genuinely at her comment on the food, and on the way bringing it up again was completely acceptable. He'd had too many experiences with woman whose breath was sour from vomit. It was part of the reason why he had a rule about kissing.
These parties are insane and no one sane would come willingly. So I must ask, why are you here? Are you insane or did someone force you to tag along?
Felix's attention roved on instinct to Stella, but she'd melted away back into the crowd again. He was half-tempted to get up and seek her out, maybe steal her away into a bathroom. Instead he stayed where he was, nursing his beer and talking to Rona. He was comfortable, anyway. "In the end I came willingly," Felix answered her with a grin. "The decision was a means to an end, though. The things I do to make women happy."
He so rarely let a client dictate the evening, but he liked Stella. And sometimes it was best to do what Snow wanted, which was to pander to the people shelling out cash for a night with him. He knew control wasn't something he really had, but usually it was nice to pretend like he did."My date has been ignoring me all night, though," Felix continued with a roll of his eyes, an irritated cant to his tone. He gave Rona a slow smile. "Can I get you a drink?"
sanity-isnot-statistical replied to your post: Innocence Has No Resistance || Backstory
Youâre so good at hetsmut though I canât. Let me know when you finish it pls?
i'll post it when it's done. i think it's gonna be an ongoing thing though because a part of me ships felix/nia and i just want to see where it goes. also i feel perverted because nia's only 15.
Innocence Has No Resistance || Backstory
Felix was seventeen, and Nia was fifteen. Heâd known her for so long and until a month ago had never really seen her, never acknowledged her. The girls he dated were invariably his age or older, but she was still the only one he would truly care about beyond the use of sexual release. Nia was friends with Felixâs younger sister, who was too preoccupied with herself to realize Nia constantly flirted with Felix whenever she was at the Shea house.
Once heâd taken notice of the girl, Felix couldnât stop thinking about her. He jerked off to thoughts of her, imagining he was spilling his cum into her mouth and that when she swallowed, sheâd lick her lips and smile as if to say thank you. His fantasies were wild and out of control, and his girlfriend of the time couldnât sate them. He fucked her and had to struggle not to groan out Niaâs name.
He walked the fifteen year old home from school one day and kissed her on the couch in her living room, family portraits gazing down with vapidly static smiles as Felix flattened his broad palm against NIaâs waist, his fingertips brushing the skin bared just below the hem of her shirt. Nia had jumped and broken the kiss, startled like a deer as her brown eyes grew big and Felix smiled.
âMy parents will be home soon,â Nia said, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear and biting down seductively on her bottom lip as her gaze wandered away from Felix and around the room.
âCome over tonight,â Felix said, leaning his face closer to kiss her cheek. Her lips curved upwards and he knew he had her when she trembled. Felix brushed his lips across the dignified line of her cheekbone and to the corner of her mouth.
âI canât,â Nia sighed, turning her face slightly so Felix could kiss her again, resting his hand on her thigh, her skin soft beneath his touch and so malleable, yielding to him in a way that was exciting.
âSure you can.â Felix chuckled lowly and pulled back, standing up and looking down at her. Her eyelids fluttered sweetly as she stared up at him, her thick lips parted, petal pink and beautiful and he wanted to capture them in his mouth, between his teeth, suck on them until they were red and swollen and she was gasping for him. âIâll see you later.â
He left Niaâs house in good spirits, whistling as he walked home. Nia called his sister and asked to spend the night and Felix laughed while he listened to his sisterâs side of the conversation, chatting away to the girl on the phone. The whole night Felix ignored Nia, joked around with his brother and made out with his girlfriend until it got late and he made her leave. Felix lay awake in bed after everyone had gone to sleep, grinning as the first creak of footsteps down the hallway made his cock stir in anticipation.
The knock at his door was barely there, a gentle tap of knuckles. Nia opened his door and peered into the bedroom and Felix beckoned her over, naked in his bed with the sheet pulled up to cover his hardening penis. Nia was dressed in a flimsy white tank top and striped blue and white cotton shorts that bared almost the full length of her slender, tanned legs. She was stunning, beautiful, sexier than anything heâd ever seen. Felix pulled the sheet back and sat up, standing and walking towards her, smirking when Niaâs eyes went immediately to his naked body, jumping to his cock.
She gave a gasp and pressed her back against the door, unmoving as Felix walked towards her, reaching out to lock the door when he was so close his cock was touching her belly. Nia moaned when Felix kissed her, hard, bruising their mouths together to claim those fleshy pink lips of hers. He stroked them with his tongue before her own snaked out to meet his, warm and wet. They breathed the same air as their lips parted against each otherâs, but Felixâs cock was aching, trapped between their bodies as Felix had pulled her close with his hands on her lower back.
His palms slid down the back of her shorts and cupped her bare ass, her flesh filling his palms. Her hands pressed against his chest and Felix stooped down to massage her ass, kissing and biting at her shoulder. Niaâs breath skated across his neck, her hands nervously running down his stomach and around his belly button, his muscles fluttering beneath her ministrations, but her hands stopped short at the base of his cock, drawing away until Felix scowled and pulled back to look at her.
âI donât know what to do,â she breathed. Felix smirked and took her hand, pulling her towards the bed. He sat down and leaned back with his palms against the mattress, his cock upright and pointing to the ceiling. She looked at his length, the first penis sheâd ever seen in this context, the first that made her want more. Her brow furrowed cutely and Felix pulled her hand down until her palm made contact with his cock.
âKneel down,â he told her. Nia rolled her lip between her straight white teeth and did as he said, crouching down in front of him, shifting forwards until she was between Felixâs knees. âStroke my cock. Iâm hard for you, Nia. Isnât that what you wanted?â
She gave a dazed nod, gripping his cock uncertainly in her hand and gave it a few inexpert tugs, rubbing the palm of her hand against him. Felix watched her through narrowed eyes as she got used to the feeling, wetting her mouth with her tongue as she stared fixedly at Felixâs cock. Beads of pre-cum formed at the tip and slowly rolled down his shaft, lubricating the way for Niaâs hand to glide more easily up and down him.
âKiss it,â Felix growled. Nia swallowed with an audible click of her throat at the sudden command and Felix rolled his eyes, reaching out to put his hand to the back of her head, pulling her face towards his crotch. Nia paused for a moment before pressing her lips to the side of his cock, gently and experimentally flicking her tongue out to slide it across the veined flesh of Felixâs shaft. He groaned low in his throat, exhaling a shallow breath as Nia nibbled slightly with her teeth, the sensation causing him to twitch and his hips to buck in both surprise and excitement.
âDid I hurt you?â Nia asked, her head bouncing up and her palm loosening around Felixâs cock. When he shook his head, Nia gave a coy smile and continued to stroke him as she laid warm, wet kisses to his cock. It was excruciatingly slow at first, but Felix knew she was getting used to it, learning. Heâd teach her exactly how to please him, show her what made his balls tighten and what made the hairs on his arms rise.
He let his eyes close as Nia kept stroking, a steady and unchanging rhythm until he felt her mouth fit over the head of his cock and he cracked his eyes open to look at her, watching the way she tried to slip his whole cock into her mouth only to choke and pull back before she got more than half of him in.
âItâs your turn,â Felix told her, grabbing her wrist and pulling her to her feet. Nia almost fell forwards onto him as he gave a tug at her arm, but she managed to straddle his lap, shaking her hair out of her face as Felix slipped his hands under her shirt and pulled it up. Nia lifted her arms to make it easier for Felix to slide off her tank top. She wasnât wearing a bra, and she probably didnât have to either.
Niaâs breasts were little more than an A cup, but she had big brown areolas that looked so inviting, topped with hard little knots of flesh. Felix kissed her chest and ran his tongue around one of her nipples. Nia moaned and arched her back, thrusting her chest into Felixâs face. He kneaded her other breast with the palm of his hand, Niaâs fingers locking behind his neck and gripping the hair at his nape as he tongued her nipple, swirling his tongue around it and sucking, pulling gently with his teeth. Nia was breathing harder now, close to panting, pushing her hips down so her thigh was rubbing up against Felixâs cock, poking at her insistently every now and again while Felix moved his mouth to trap her other nipple between her teeth, clamping down harder this time so Nia screamed in surprise.
Felix grimaced and shoved his hand over her mouth to quiet her down. Her eyes glistened with pained tears, but Felix smiled and kissed her forehead, tracing his fingers down her sides, tickling her slightly until she gave a short nod of her head and he took his hand away from her mouth.
âDo that again,â Nia breathed. Felix looked at her for a moment before ducking his head back down to her breasts. He bit with less pressure at the insubstantial swell of her right breast while she slid her arms around his head and held her close, shivering whenever Felix caught her nipple between his teeth and teased it with the tip of his tongue.
Other Poison Devils || Rona & Felix
Tonight was yet another party Rona was forced to make an appearance at. She hated these parties. They were so full of fake people who were only there to celebrate the greatness of themselves. The smell of too much perfume assaulted Rona's nose, the smell almost gagging her. She smiled at everyone who caught her eye, but acted like she was weaving through the crowd in search of someone specific.
Many an Avox offered her a flute of champagne, Rona declined politely each time, although she was tempted to take one. However there was no telling how she would react to the alcohol, only ever having it once before in her life. Back then she had only had a few sips as she offered up a toast to her parents and manager at her first album release party. Since then, Rona had avoided it, liking the buzz it gave her, but not the taste.
Sinking into a chair, Rona sat and tried to appear interested in her surroundings. The din of laughter and chattering was starting to give her a headache. Rona wished she could just go home. There were so many other things she could be doing. Even doing something as mindless as taking a bath would be better then this. A few people stopped by and spoke with her for a few minutes, leaving when it became clear she wasn't going to congratulate them on their latest success stories.
A man who looked about fifty or so sat down heavily beside her, giving her a toothy grin. He asked her how she was, then leaned in close and asked her if she would like to go somewhere more private. The smell of alcohol was heavy on his breath, along with a sour smell that was probably vomit. Either he had gorged himself on food, then threw up to make room for more, or he was so drunk he could no longer keep anything down. Either way, Rona was disgusted and extremely uncomfortable.
âYouâre in my seat."
Rona looked up quickly at the rough voice of a man who was just as much a stranger to her as the one sitting next to her. Soon though, she recognized him. He was one of the victors from the Hunger Games. Rona was always invited to watch the games, so she was familiar with the mentors and past victors. This one, she had never met personally, but had seen around on the rare occasion.
âThat means get up.â
Feeling relieved when the man got up and ambled away, Rona let out a breath she hadn't been aware of holding. That hadn't been the first time someone had tried to hook up with her, but it had been the first time that the man looked prepared to not take no for an answer. She was grateful for this man for helping her out. She watched him with curious eyes, watching his calloused fingers rake through his hair, his eyes examining her own.
âIâm Felix. Have we met somewhere? I feel like Iâve seen you before.â
Rona smiled automatically and reached out to shake his hand. "I'm Rona Gaines. You might have seen me around during the Games. I've gone every year for the past 7 years." She noticed how rough his hand was against her own smooth one, how tight his grip was, and she wondered if that was how he had won, by his strength. "But I do not believe we have met." She looked directly into his eyes, giving a smaller, more shy smile. "Thank you, for sending that creep away. I was five seconds from running away," she said, only half serious.
Felix squeezed her warm hand in the palm of his before releasing the handshake, reaching out instead to grasp his beer bottle. He brought it up to his lips and took a sip, watching her from the corner of his eye. Swallowing the mouthful of liquor, Felix gave a belated nod. "You're that singer," he said with a wry smile. "It's hard to go a step in this city without seeing you on a magazine cover." The Capitol and their latest fads were always interesting to him, in a way rather clinical way. He followed the attention, remembering what it was like right after he'd won the Games and was a superstar because of it. Years later and he'd faded, somewhat. But this girl was only just experiencing the spotlight, and nothing had yet dimmed for her.
"I knew I'd seen you before," Felix mused, then shrugged. "And it's no trouble, really." He didn't make a habit of rescuing people from less-than-pleasant situations, but he didn't bother explaining that. The girl met his eyes steadily and he liked the simplicity of the eye contact, how there was nothing uneasy or expectant in her expression. He relaxed and looked around the room, a slightly snide curl coming to his lips as he tilted his head slightly to say to Rona, "Who forced you to come tonight?"
He could see his date now, moving around the packed room. Felix caught glimpses of her between everyone else's large and obtrusive fashions, and he couldn't help but admire each clear view of her. Her name was Stella, and he couldn't help imagining what it'd be like to mold himself to the curves of her body. Felix looked away from her, losing her once more, to gaze curiously at Rona as his thoughts ebbed away and returned with a little less impatient yearning.
"No one in their right minds chooses to come to a party like this," he continued with a smile, rubbing tiredly at his mouth with his hand. "And you seem far too smart to be as empty-headed as everyone else here." Was he including Stella in that comment? Possibly. It didn't matter so long as she looked the way she did. Felix had grudgingly agreed to make an appearance tonight, and so far he'd been here long enough to witness a middle-aged woman throwing up into a pot plant only to sidle back off to chase down the waiters carrying trays of appetizers. It was common practice in the Capitol, but most people usually threw up in more discreet places. Felix had a feeling the evening would carry on in much the same way, considering how freely the champagne was flowing.
âDo you really think youâre capable of killing me?â
âYes.â

itâs funny. cause thatâs what vlad said he would do. and no felix cannot. this baby is my reason to breath. i care more about it than emilia ever could. and i hate children. felix can fuck off and die. which emilia will gladly tell him to.
well he'd either try to get rid of it or steal the baby when its born and raise it to be evil. and i'll just amuse myself with the idea then.
