I don’t think people realize how hard it is be a first-generation Mexican-American (or first-gen anything) that is often seen as “not enough” for people in either country while struggling to prove that your parents’ sacrifices were all worth it in a society where the system has deliberately been set up against us and where the people enforce racist ideologies that leave a huge negative impact
Also add on the weight of never seeing yourself be properly represented in mainstream media, having people whitewash you and appropriate your culture and while we’re at it, let’s also talk about being LGBTQA+ in a community that strongly believes in a religion while struggling to deal with mental health issues that are there because of the constant discrimination and negative stereotypes being enforced onto you and those around you
“I don’t wish women to have power over men but over themselves” - Mary Wollstonecraft (Mary Shelley’s mom)
friendly reminder that women of color make less than white women
Now that’s how you ally. That’s putting it on the line and showing solidarity. That’s how you use your white privilege for good.
”It’s nice to go out and march, we can do that. It’s nice to wear black at the Golden Globes, but what are you doing behind closed doors?” - Jada Pinkett Smith
It’s easily one of the cleanest examples of intersectional feminism I’ve seen in a minute. It’s the polar opposite of white feminism, where white women are concerned primarily with the wellbeing and advancement of other white women. If more white men and women stood up and demanded basic fairness instead of just talking about it—and not just in Hollywood—we might really begin to impact racism and close the pay gap that always gets inflicted upon black people in most careers.

we are not criminals or drug dealers or rapists but we will not grovel at your feet so you can think us worthy of being treated like human beings

This incredible invention is keeping girls in school
For Trinitas Kunashe, like many girls in Malawi, getting her period was unexpected, unexplained and a burden for her everyday life. Often, girls who do not have access to pads prefer to stay home and out of school for the duration of their periods.
But Trinitas is changing that with her amazing new invention:
Made from bright and comfortable locally-sourced fabrics, Tina Pads are a hit amongst girls in her community. They are waterproof, practical and fun – and most importantly reusable.
Determined to make sure no girl is forced to miss school because of her period, Trinitas is a passionate believer in the power of education to change lives.

Reusable pads should be a thing in our societies too because the regular ones are a big enviromental problem.
“You have to pick your battles on set. You have to come to work from a place of love. You have to stay hydrated when you have crying scenes. You have to go to college. And you have to ask for money because there’s always more money and they won’t give it to you because you’re a girl!"

“Woman is not born: she is made. In the making, her humanity is destroyed. She becomes symbol of this, symbol of that: mother of the earth, slut of the universe; but she never becomes herself because it is forbidden for her to do so.”
