âbecause i care, angel,â she interrupted, her voice quieter than usual.
the words hung in the air between you, heavy and loaded with meaning. you felt your pulse quicken, and for a moment, you didnât know what to say.
âi..â You hesitated, your throat tightening.
abby sighed and leaned back again, running a hand through her hair. âyou donât have to say anything. i justâ i canât pretend anymore. i care about you. more than i probably should.â
her confession was raw, unguarded in a way that made your chest ache. you opened your mouth to respond, but the words wouldnât come.
âitâs okay,â abby said, standing up and grabbing her bag. âtake your time. iâll see you tomorrow, okay?â
before you could stop her, she was gone, leaving you alone with your thoughts and the weight of what sheâd just said.
