[Monthly Challenge] June

Challenge five!! We're halfway done with these. which can you believe it?? I am so stunned by how time can fly like this. Genuinely excited to see how y'all interpret this!!

Prompt: To say I love you

How it works:

Minimum 1k fic/writing OR 1 piece of art (which could be any of the following: drawing, podfic, poetry, graphic or fanmix) based on the prompt

Post completed works during the month anytime before midnight June 30th according to your time zone.

If posting to AO3 please tag works as 'femslash big bang monthly challenge' and add it to the AO3 collection (linked below). This makes it much easier to find works and confirm they're appropriate for the collection.

The round up post will be posted about a week later on July 7th

All Fandoms AND original works allowed, just so long as the main ship is femslash - see FAQ below or send an ask if you need anything clarified :)

Rollover Week #1

WOW we're finally here...our first Rollover week of the year, giving you all a chance to tackle a previous prompt. So, if you've only just found us and saw a previous prompt, you can come share something you've been cooking this week.

We do these three times a year, so if you miss out, never fear, you can have another shot at these prompts in Rollover Week #3 (Rollover #2 will be inclusive of May to September only, so good chance to plan ahead!).

Rules:

Much like monthly challenges the requirements will be minimum 1k of fic or 1 piece of art (graphics/podfic/fanmixes/poetry/etc are all eligible as well as drawn art)

for the monthly challenge, does the work have to be complete? or in theory can you start a multichapter for it

Only if the work is complete by the end of the month. I don't approve works in the ao3 collection unless they're marked as fully completed.

Whole idea is it's a Challenge to create a full and complete work in the month, so if you can do it, go for your life.

Check in #2 is slightly delayed, so that should be going out over the weekend and I'll keep the form open for a couple weeks in June, maybe longer.

Fixed an issue with people not getting confirmation emails so on this new form you should absolutely get a receipt confirming I've got it. You do not need to log in or even have a Google account to access it, just put in the email you put on the previous/original forms.

If you want to change your email too, please let me know ASAP and I'll update my master list.

i'm confused - in the 2026 schedule it says that rollover week is May 18th - 24th. is the schedule wrong?

Totally intentionally (Accidentally) yes 😅 the struggles of thinking you've got a perfect queue only to realise it's completely missing.

Rollover Week/s Announcement!

I've teased this for a while now but rejoice for details are finally here!

Rollover week will be a semi-recurring event in May, October, and December, in which we'll have a week where everyone can either have a second (or third or fourth) go at or post something for a prompt that didn't quite get finished in time for the OG monthly challenge.

Prompts allowed for May and September Challenges will be for the few months previous (i.e. May will have Feb-April, September will have May-August), but December will be a free for all for any missed prompts as we're not running any other events in December.

Notably, Masterlists will be posted separately a little after - specific dates will be announced when the posts go live.

Key Dates:

Rollover Week 1: May 19th to 25th

Rollover Week 2: October 22nd to 28th (pushed a little ways out to accommodate the end of the big bang)

Rollover Week 3: December 15th to 21st

Rules:

(I have posted quite a few fics, including a long series, before knowing anything about Femslash challenges — my online culture is really a bit in its infancy). Thank you kindly.

hello!! (hope you're having a nice day,) i've recently fallen deeply for a sapphic nonbinary pairing, from a work with a Very Very sparse wiki. i don't think i'll actually use that as my thing, but i was curious if wiki pages would count as an art piece in some way?

Gonna say no on the wiki thing because I feel like that's a bit too abstract in terms of it being a specifically Femslash Work. But, I love the energy. Wiki editors are truly fandom MVPs.

Thank you, yeah unfortunately there's been people getting really weird about this challenge all the time. I feel like I accidentally get this whole thing reawakened every other month.

But I do love the community here and everyone has really been great. I have a fun time organising this and I'm not gonna stop. I'm always dazzled by the works people make even if I don't go there.

I'm a trans woman and I'm not sorry to say that only allowing "canon women headcanoned as trans women" is fine? I thought it would be obvious that people want to write about the various interpretations of the canon women for this bang! It's consistent with your genderbend rule, anyways. The point isn't that they're not women in those universes—some of us only want to write about the canon ladies, and we like headcanoning *them* as trans women!

Just wanted to send this in support because that one person sending those anons reads like the worst bad faith trolling to skirt the rules.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I just want this event to be a space to explicitly centre women and not bending over backwards to find ways to insert men into the equation when we have perfectly good women in canon all over fandom.

I don't mind questions at all but I do mind people coming in here with bad faith interpretations.

and -Why- aren't you just allowing transfem headcanons? where do you draw the line between headcanon and legit interpretation of the text and canon?

and, either way, when a character is written/depicted as transfem, how is that NOT femslash? unless youre obviously just transphobic. and it looks like that right now because your policy is outright discriminatory

Because I want people to focus on canon women (again, trans and non-binary inclusive!!). Hell, I've even said that cis women can be made trans women for the purposes of this challenge (which doesn't actually alter their canon gender so much as adds to it). I do not want fics that centre on canonical men in this challenge.

I have also never said that those characters, in those fics where they're written as transfem, aren't be women in that particular fic. They are women in those fics. It can be femslash yes but so is (cis) gender swap fic of m/m fic. Which is also not in scope of this challenge.

That doesn't mean I don't think those works are #Valid or should never be made. I think it's great that fandom asks these questions and goes absolutely nuts with it.

However, when a vast majority of Fandom laser focuses on canonical men (again, this is NOT inclusive of canon trans women) and priorities works about them, as trans women or otherwise, I just want people to prioritise canon (cis, trans, or nb) women in this challenge.

I'm also not going to get into the weeds of canon vs interpretation vs headcanon bc that's too complicated to discuss and tbh anon I'd rather not invite any more discourse bc I think it could get very transphobic fast.

Additionally, participating in this challenge isn't compulsory nor do I want you to not create what your heart desires. Go get out there and write that fic, it just might not be part of this challenge. Which is fine!! This isn't an absolutely anything goes challenge.

I saw your rules and I understand them. I’m not trying to argue here for the sake of centering men but there are non TMA non women characters who do face transmisogyny and are often called “femboys” and other awful things by the fandom and reduced to sex objects for male characters or heteronormative depictions. If the character does face misogyny or transmisogyny even if they are not a woman in canon, would they still count? I just feel like when these very feminine characters are centered, they too are treated with insidious misogyny people try to pass off as progressive and a lot of women and transfems have tried to reclaim them bc they are treated so horribly. Some examples include Chihiro Dangonronpa (practically canon) Ralsei deltarune, Astolfo sometimes Shinji and lesser known hcs like Armin aot. All these characters have instances of being transmisogynyized in canon. So would they count? Or would they still be considered canonically male even if they too are treated with misogyny? They may not be canon women but they are still treated as less than by their TME male peers.

Fandom (or characters in the canon text) being weird and/or shitty about a character is not a metric for them being part of a femslash challenge.
