Romantic love or not, nobody can deny that Kim Dokja's primary goal in the entire ORV story is to give Yoo Joonghyuk a happy ending to his story. Everything he does is for the sake of Yoo Joonghyuk.
Saving the earth? It's because that's what YJH wants because he wants to save humanity and have a place to return home to after everything. KDJ tells us repeatedly that he doesn't particularly see the need to save the world or its people (he's not that noble), but he does it because YJH (and their companions ofc) want it.
Saving particular people that became their companions? It's because they were either already YJH's companions, or because they were useful for KDJ's grand plan (minus a couple like YSA and LGY, who were originally saved because they were just there and KDJ is still human, so he saved them).
Every enemy of YJH's in the story was his enemy too even before those people knew him, with the exception of when he uses them for manipulation purposes.
He refuses to not give EVERY YJH he meets a happy ending. This includes 1863 where he can logically understand HSY's choices, but he refuses to allow it to happen because she stripped YJH of all of his happiness. Even if this is what 1863 wants, KDJ can't bring himself to fully accept it. He almost does, but the second he hears the tiny 'I want to live', he breaks and destroys all the plans. He won't let YJH die in such agony again.
He does the same for Secretive Plotter, promising him all these high goals that even the kkomas tell him are stupid.
KDJ will do anything for every version of YJH, because at the end of things what reader doesn't want their favorite character to have a happy ending?
