they are not as young as they once were , time and circumstances had torn them a part ... there was a time in which he would have moved earths for her. the caste system had all but destroyed the ways of the dwarfs ; or perhaps their love was always fraught with the possibility that strength was NEVER in their favor. over the years he has lost a great deal of things , but that has only made him hold onto the fleeting goodness that he knows will leave him in half agony when it comes to an end. their letters , ... HIS letters without fail would be posted , she so INGRAINED into his very self that he could not see a reason to not write.

her words cause the turn of head over shoulder as a low chuckle can be detected in the night air. ' yet you're here ' his tone conveys the sort of confidence that comes with the knowledge that for all his writings SHE STILL WROTE BACK. that her letters were as frequent as his own , even with a husband who he knew was due to a convenience. ' you said yourself that you could only slip away for a few hours ... don't get married if you can't live the life bianca ' though his words had no detection of bitterness ; perhaps marriage wasn't ever THEIR way.

there was freedom in the love they shared , after all .... it wasn't as if she ever begged him to break off their meetings , would he ? ---- he's grateful she hasn't given him reason to do so.

a dwarven thaig that was left abandoned :  COLD AND DESOLATE  ...  the threat of darkspawn approaching or the possibility of the very foundation that they stand on ,  crumble beneath them .  yet even with the off chance that assassin's had tracked them ,  bianca would always return to him .  " right , "  a chuckles escapes through the arid space ,  " i'll remember that when our heads are about to be detached from our shoulders . "  varric was a constant in bianca's life ,  THE ONE THING IN HER LIFE THAT FELT REAL AND RIGHT  ...  bogdan ,  though a good man in his own right   —    was never going to have her heart .  " when has the guild ever slowed down before ? "  her eyes cast to the bow that shares her name .  after all this time and with all it's battles it's seen ,  varric has always kept it in good condition .  was it symbolic ?   maybe .  a little too cliche she thinks but she wouldn't put it past the greatest storyteller all of thedas has ever seen ,  to use a trite phrase here and there .

bianca brushes dust off the surface of a table before turning to lean against it .  arms cross at her chest ,  " too bad dwarves can't dream ,  otherwise i'm sure we'd be dreaming all kinds of romantic things . "  like being on a beach somewhere in rivain or anywhere that's far away from their responsibilities and the people who were so driven to keep them apart .  " i don't know ,  the world isn't blighted or swallowed up by demons ,  but maybe a hallow thaig in the deep roads isn't so bad . "

hope , a beautiful and dangerous thing ---- hope it seemed still burned within varric's heart. the want to know that solas was not completely lost , that a mission once founded on the same goal was still ACHIEVABLE. darkness had been known , and darkness had indeed bit at the ankles of varric , a family torn with guilt , a brother lost to the past .... small tragedies that all played into the foundation and core of who he was. small pieces of him that take root in the form of humor or the deflection of those who take an interest of who exactly lays behind a mask that he has skillfully built up.

' i've seen your orders ... you're stronger than me , you get the job done ' the tavern does well to hide their dialogue ; the gentle bob of conversations and the sound of HEAVY HANDED pours (there were those who longed for something to numb the pain). varric has drank worse , but he prefers something with more of a BITE ; the sort of ale that reminds him of ages past , where ale was taken out of celebration. the drinker often raising a glass to victories , to allies that strengthened the land , and the gentle laying down of egos that threatened to swathe men in blindness.

' wicked grace ' there's the pulling of lips , ' ... no men never do well to losing do they ? ' a knowing sort of look in eyes as he leans slightly forward , the candlelight playing off their features as if the light itself were aiding them in their current quest. ' losing money while having a sense of humor never does go well ' a sense of humor within words. ' it is why i find that being clever with one's tongue works so well ' hand reaching for his cup as he stares at it a moment more , and his brow furrows --- the realization that yes he will have to eventually drink.

' rook i wouldn't have chosen anyone else to be beside my side ... though a decent ale could't hurt '

the saying goes :  never bet against an antivan  ( let alone an antivan crow . )  talia was as good at playing at game of wicked grace ,  as she is good at being the coldblooded killer that she is .  " says the man whose bare chested and has a damn good aim , "  she chuckles ,  " but getting the job done is just part of the contract . "  the brunette leans back against the chair ,  and taking a moment to allow the room to move around her .  she had already mapped out the entire tavern in her head and memorized the possible exits .  of course that wasn't without noting the chances for distraction .  naturally  ...  THAT WAS PART OF BEING AN ASSASSIN .  the men in the back were obnxiously drunk and giving the bar head a run for his money .  there was two older gentleman in a spot in the corner ,  possibly reminiscing about their younger years in the military .  talia can swear the city elf that helped around the tavern was from fereldan .  she sighs inwardly ,  weren't they all so far away from home ?

hope dangled on a string that was held above her head .  it wasn't strange or foreign but something that was often just out of reach .  her own darkness travelled behind her ,  KNOCKING AT THE CAGE THAT ENCASED HER HEART .  that it alone was hardened after tragedy and grief .  even so she stilled her spirit and looked forward ,  always chasing that hope and she supposes that's where varric's head is at .  the man was so filled with hope that it consumed him .  

head tilts ever so in his direction ,  in the small amount of time that she knew him .  he taught her more than anyone else did ,  and that was saying something .  if she told viago that ,  he'd finally pop that vain in his neck out of fury .  it's true though  ...  the way varric has so much confidence in her abilities and having no doubt in his mind that he wanted her for this job .  even knowing what she has done ?  shit ,  she didn't know she could be stricken with nerves .  " look at you getting all sentimental .  i wonder if i'm going to be as such at an old age . " she jests of course ,  her legs move to sit atop the table and brings her mug of crappy ale with her .  setting it on her lap .  SHE TOO WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO DRINK IT .  " you think that clever tongue of yours will charm solas and stop him from tearing down the veil ? "

i've been thinking ... not that i have many followers at the moment and i'm sort of just pissing in the wind here . but lavellan loosing her arm after the anchor is taken from her ( by solas of all people . ) how tragic and difficult it must have been for her . in my play - through i made lavellan a hunter with little to no magic within her to use as some sort of secondary tool . her weapons of choice of course is bow and arrow and defensive fighting with sword / dagger . when she looses her arm , she looses the ability for a while to use anything . mirassan values her ability to provide and to defend , and now she is forced to accept that she has to adapt to a different way to doing so . i do believe she get's a functional prosthetic arm than the ridiculous one we got in da : the veilguard . i do think she adapts to it but it takes time , and practice and determination . she works herself past exhaustion till she get's her aim correctly .

all i'm saying is : trauma . she looses her arm and finds she looses herself a little in the process .

time , a place of regret ---- of all the past horrors that he had tried to right. had he ? even as she's with him now he wonders for how long. where they had entered had not been a prison , instead what lays before them is the unknown and a golden city now turned black awaits them. two worlds now separated , yet he can feel the pressure of both upon him. the weight heavier , yet ? it falls about him in a comfortable manner. it is as it always should have been.

he turns to her , a hand stretches towards her the need and want to feel her hand upon his (to know that he has not passed into the abyss alone) ' yes , we must continue forth ' the words burn upon tongue , he has yet to forgive himself ---- the way she shined brighter than anything else around him , that she herself was responsible for the openness of his decaying heart. the knowledge that his betrayal was all to easy. that sadness that held him trapped , selfish in the ways of his dealings. ' where would i be without your guidance ? ' these words are uttered with the utmost care , tenderness blooms where sun does not dare.

A PAUSE.

' what direction do you see ? ' his question has a twofold meaning , his ancient eyes look down upon her ; the greyness of such a gaze yet ? what's reflected is what's left of a heart that's given in such agony , ---- a love that has the possibility to spread like wildfire , and scold those who dare get too close.

the fade was always such a mystery ,  a place where each turn could be danger or even a surprise .  mirassan's eyes cast to the green sky where the black city sits empty and cold .  for centuries it has remained vacant and lifeless .  where once it shined gold like the blazing sun ,  and housed the ancient elves of old  ...  the greatest of them all .  now closed off and unreachable  (    for if you reach the black city ,  you become tainted .    )  her attention is brought away from the soulless city ,  to where her spirit remained .  her hand slips into his without a moments hesitation .  now mirassan has given herself fully to him ,  to their journey that they are to share together .  to keep and sustain the veil while solas seeks penitence for his wrongs .  

" without me ? "  she steps forward with him ,  not in front nor in back .  BUT WITH HIM .  " you would have torn down the veil and ended thedas as we knew it . "  her shoulder reaches into a slight shrug ,  " but that is just a guess . "  her words come with a sense of familiarity .  of how it was before they had separated all that time ago .   a sadness however ,  begins to leak into her heart as a reminder that there are still some very hard conversations to be had .  

TIME .  time slips at their fingers but now it's for an eternity .  forever  ––––––  var lath vir suledin .  

" you know this place better than i ,  vhenan . "  instinct had settled in long ago once they stepped returned to the fade .  demons came to feast and while solas was still injured from his fight with elgar'nan's archdemon .  he used most of her power and energy to fend them off .  MANY EYES YET LINGER FOR A FEAST UPON FLESH .  " your lighthouse .  rook spoke of it when i met up with her in minrathous .  "  he looks exhausted .  the fade reacts to their very thoughts ,  their memories and emotion .  she has never set eyes on the lighthouse before but she must try .

the evening settled into the sky like a swiftness of a knife .  calm and sure of itself ,  at least when it's in a professional's hand .  talia ,  varric and harding decided that it was best to head to the closest town or hovel for shelter for the night .  the tavern offered rooms for a decent price  (    and from what she's seen ,  the rats here were relatively civil .    )  ' it beats being robbed or killed by bandits for the shirt on your back '  varric said to her  ––––––   well let them try .  " i gave them a decent head start ,"  a smile forms upon lips as the tankard of ale reaches her mouth to take a sip .  her nose scrunches ,  a decent pint of ale was hard to come by  (    but maybe that's because she was a bit of a snob when it came to the alcoholic variety .    ) 

 " it is like playing a very deadly game of wicked grace , "  the pint is lowered onto the table .  she hints at a memory .  cards were dealt on a table within a dimly lit tavern just like this .  bets were made ,  MONEY WON ,  and bitter losers shouting for their money back  ...  the rogue sighs ,  blissful in her reminiscence .  MEN WERE ALWAYS SUCH SORE LOSERS .  " was i not courteous enough to at least allowing them the a chance to kill me ? "  the cadence is sing song - y ,  a little added flair sewed in each syllable to emphasize her accent .

scout harding had already headed up to bed .  the road to finding solas ,  the dread wolf himself ,  was a long and tiresome road .  they had no idea where where the next lead would take them .  WHAT DANGERS LURKED AROUND THE CORNER .  what mattered now was the slivers of peace that were granted to them .  " ah well  ...  you wouldn't have recruited me for this job if i failed ,  no ? "

INQUISITOR ,    the title she believed to be made for sturdier shoulder's than her own .  but they say that those who do not wish to lead ,  are the only one's best to lead .  still  ...  it never felt right .  mirassan was a woman of the wilds ,  a huntress for clan lavellan  (    taught to track and hunt ,  not lead this rag - tag group of weary humans into a fight that could be the very end of thedas as they knew it .    )  they who call her the herald of andraste ,  would andraste herself entrust all of this to a dalish elf who doesn't even believe in the faith of humans ?  she allows them that solace ,  ––––––  FOR IT IS FOR THEIR COMFORT ,  NOT HER OWN .  

missives from across fereldan and beyond ,  invitations to parties and banquets with kings and queens ,  the dignitaries and foes .  mirassan has grown a little restless being cooped up in skyhold .  she longed to feel the earth under her feet and the sun's warmth against her skin .  she hands over approved repair orders for the new main hall .  there was a rather large hole that has yet to be fully repaired ,  but it offered a gentle breeze  ...  though cold as it was .  a smile cast while the diligent ,  yet humble masonry  (    the one who offered to help the inquisition for food and a cot    )  nodded before heading off to give order's to the other workers .  a short time past ,  but not much  ...  they still had work to do and so little time .

she walked the hall and stopped by the doorway of the atrium where solas stayed .  he was busy at his desk ,  her head cants to side as if to study him .  she is quiet in entering the room ,  her eyes lifting her gaze up and up passed skyhold's library and the roof .  her hands find their way behind her ,  as a cheeky smirk makes its way onto her features .  mirassan leans down ,  almost as close as she could to his ear  ––––––  " may i ask you something ? "  a beat ,  " you said skyhold was once elven  ...  tarasyl'an te'las  ...  the place where they sky is held back .  yet i cannot find any remnants of ancient elvenan .  not even a temperamental artifact that send rocks hurling down from above . "
