Begging for Oru and Qifrey to catch a break PLEASEEE the last chapters made me go insane. insane !!! It's been so long since I last drew WHA fanart but I'm participating in a fan event so I've been cooking up stuff for months hehehe..

Witch Hat Atelier has a magical ability to be utterly devastating and then the next chapter is cozy and loving without feeling like the shift is jarring or bad.

(Chapter 94 spoilers below the break)

The fact that Coco’s running away didn’t lead into a depressing or traumatic arc about her being missing is an amazing choice. The instinct is to say it’s a missed opportunity, but that’s not what this manga is about.

WHA is full of hope, full of love and joy and magic, and Shirahama seems to be slowly pulling the plot up from the depressing lows of the past 5 or so chapters (Dagdah’s death onward). Coco dedicating herself to happy magic and helping people is so important, because despite everything that has happened, she is the same girl from the beginning of the story.

I wish I could properly articulate how much this means. In a world where so much media is about how awful and terrible everything is and will be, WHA carves its niche by being endlessly hopeful and inspiring for a better future.

obsessed with witch hat atelier because we're introduced to this guy who's dumbledore as a twink with a gojo jujutsu kaizen twist and we immediately think he's the badass. as it turns out the magic he's most proficient at besides making water horseys is gaslighting (sometimes using diy techniques requiring no magic) and rocking a tight lycra shirt. he gets morally grey with it while teaching the ABC's. sweetest guy you know. also, a fuckass snake. he's the weirdo in the cottage.

meanwhile, olruggio is making bombs. he's showing so much ingenuity and kindness in his magic everyone wants him to make stuff for them. he keeps reinventing his own specialty. he keeps saving the day like superman. he forgives qifrey the sneakering wretch like it’s second nature. he's an incredible father figure to numerous children without even trying. he's the goat despite himself. the casual mvp

I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything

I wish I could make any sort of analysis on Witch Hat Atelier, but unfortunately every time I reread it all I can do is blubber and cry over everything and forget to mentally engage with the deeper themes.

With Hat Atelier I have to believe it’s gonna get better because this is hopepilled manga but MAN is it rough right now.

In all seriousness, Chapter 93 is incredible. I’m not going to spoil anything so everyone can get a chance to read it, but it’s amazing how Shirahama writes soulmates in a way that addresses the PAIN of being so inextricably linked to another person.
